1.
I would advise looking for a practitioner...now thats a longer word.[:-))]
Well spotted and it proves there is no need for the spell checker when you're about!  I would hate the OP to get confused or receive misleading information from an unqualified Barrack Room Lawyer type who may not fully understand the intricacies of the French legal system.
 2. Cherryade, I think it very important to note that other than links to official sites, unless the contributor declares a legally qualified status, any information provided here should not be considered legal advice and does not take the place of consultation with a qualified legal practioner.
 3. Considering the two occasions when I've used Europcar in Spain, on returning the car the first check they made was if the spare was in place - and inflated. Hire car from CDG airport had two under inflated tyres and oil level below minimum level. Profuse apologies from the desk staff with the excuse I had been allocated the wrong vehicle. As a gesture of good will, they kindly offered me a rather splendid model from a higher group at the original price. I did wonder whether the next punter through the door woud be the unforunate soul to drive off in what was basically an unsafe vehicle!
 4. Striking any passenger window will cause it to shatter as they're made of tempered glass. The art is in doing it correctly! A single blow from a 16 oz hammer combined with a centre punch, masonary nail, or hardened drill bit will do the job nicely. With a spring loaded punch, no need for a hammer. Just place in lower corner of window glass and press - job done.[:)]
 5.
I'd love to visit extremadura .........
Please feel free, and the property prices aren't too bad. I'm sure they'd welcome someone of your talents with open arms! Just tell them Mr Eastwood sent you.[Www]
 6. Fully concur with you RH, and I doubt very much if some people have a grasp on the true situation of health care charges in the USA.
Seems attractive to opt out of inflated health security charges and pay as you go, like the americans do.
"Like the Americans do"! That's a laugh. As RH has highlighted, you get cover according to how much you contribute to the insurance sharks - who are in the business of making a profit. Estimated around 17% of the population are not insured, with over 60% of all bankruptcies cited as being due to medical debt and high medical expense costs. Not forgetting, this is also the country with the highest rate of adult obesity!
 7. Try addressing your problem to the forum here; http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistasetup/thread/cde76da1-9923-4e86-bf7e-5308cd5e7649/ Earlier this year (I think), there was a similar problem to yours following an update, which only affected a small number of users. It turned out to be a corrupted driver - or so MS said[;-)]
 8. I've had more trouble when paying by cheque than I've ever had when paying with cash![:)]
 9. I feel the only way you'll find out how good the guarantee really is, will be if your bank actually fails! La Poste looks healthy enough from this, http://www.laposte.com/Everything-about-La-Poste/Press-releases/Latest-articles/2011-press-releases/La-Banque-Postale-s-2010-Results . Within UK banking, the guarantee has worked but I think your priority is to ensure investments held in any bank do not exceed the maximum likely to be paid in the event of collapse. Don't keep all your eggs in one basket so to speak! There is a Directive on Deposit Guarantee Schemes within the EU which could be interpreted as being an extra guarantee of your cash being safe, possibly!
 10.
Does anyone have any suggestions, also what is the best free anti virus AVG or Avast and how do I remove all traces of the Norton one? My old machine had no anti viris for the last 6 months as they had all become so big the machine would not run with them, hopefully that wont be an issue now.
To remove Norton completely, you need the 'Norton Removal Tool' accessible here;  http://tinyurl.com/5vf9hak Re AVG or AVAST, forget them. Simply use 'Microsoft Security Essentials' http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security_essentials/default.aspx simple, effective and free. Use Windows Live Mail and you can destine your future viagra or other spam, phishing, unwanted mail, etc, to the sin bin, http://explore.live.com/windows-live-mail
 11.
It's early days for those of us in France, isn't it? I'm still hopeful that at some point in the future we'll be able to buy Kindle e-books from amazon.co.uk in the same way as we can buy the printed versions. Can't get my head around that contradiction. By the way, for info (sorry no hyperlink, but I'm on Safari): http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Fire-Color/dp/B0051VVOB2
No need to worry about being limited to purchasing e-books from Amazon. There are plenty of other resources out there.
Aha! Cheers CBC65! Kindle Fire is altogether different.
It certainly looks a handy bit of kit, although unlikely to appear this side of the pond for some time[:(]. It took Amazon a couple of years after launching the Kindle, before it appeared in the UK! We shall wait with eager anticipation and fingers crossed[:)].
 12.
To put it simply a mixture of upper and lower case letters is GOOD SPELLING.[:D]
For someone with such an inordinate history of university education, I find it quite ironic that you feel the need to correct others when your basic grasp of the English spelling leaves a lot to be desired. http://www.informatics.sussex.ac.uk/department/docs/punctuation/node27.html [:)]
 13.
The only real change resulting from the 2008 fiasco in FRANCE was an increase from € 70,000 to € 100,000. I presume by mentioning something called icesave you are endeavouring to confuse by introducing something related to the UK. And the Netherlands. I am unaware how your icesave contribution changes the situation in france. What situation? At the moment I am watching Envoyé Special, an investigative journalism weekly programme on France 2. The lead topic this week has been on confidence in French Banks. One interesting facet was the attempt by the investigators to get an interview with the Director of the fonds de garantie de depôts, the request was refused. The investigators instead interviewed an economics professor from the Sorbonne. They proceeded to the doors of the institution situated opposit the Opéra. The professor explained that the fonds de garantie totalled € 2,000,000,000 accumulated from the contributions of the main french clearing banks. There was a tacit suggestion that this would not go very far. I suggest you watch the programme on pluzz.fr during the next week. No thanks. If it's not featured in the Daily Mail, it can't possibly be accurate! In the meantime I leave you, Q, SD et Al in blissfull ignorance of the stark realities of the fond de garantie. Based on your personal expertise? What I do find interesting is how your little group believes without question the words of the french banking industry. Only the French banking industry, what about EU banks in general?  In the meantime I leave you to wade through this: http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/bank/index_en.htm within the section entitled "Group of Experts in Banking Issues", there appears to be one person missing from the experts list! By the way they also visited a Parisian Department Store where "coffre-forts" are selling like hotcakes. It's called the "Northern Rock" syndrome. The only point remaining is your spelling of "French". It has a capital letter 'F'[:)]
Quick edit to note your mate Alessio appears to be also offering angling instruction! Would this be fly, course, or deep sea?
 14.
Will future generations want to go and look round these huts ? Or will they prefer to look on line for a virtual walk through of the place and listen to a commentary ? Given the world my grandchildren seem to live in they seek to get all information off the internet . I cant imagine them wanting to travel to Bletchley Park and walking round .
Over the years the same question has probably been asked about the sounding of the Last Post at Menin Gate, Ypres, and with the exception of 4 years German occupation during WWII, the Last Post has been sounded nightly at 20:00 hrs, since 11 November 1929. It's not unusual to find a school party from the UK present, nor is it unusual to see a representative of a school laying a wreath. True, there is a wealth of 'virtual' information avalable, but one fails to grab the emotion or be able to put things in perspective without actually visiting the sites.
 15.
Now I wonder if that would include an A.E.L.E. country like Iceland?[:D][:D][:D]
If this is a veiled reference to 'Icesave', since their demise I think you'll find the rules have changed. In addition, all investors received full reimbursement up to and including the ceiling for repayments as per FSA regulations.
 16.
CCSO is a French domiciled bank as far as I'm aware but not sure if being a UK resident would give us the same protection if it goes under?
It makes no difference whatsoever. You're funds are covered by the protection scheme, as they would be in the UK, the Isle of Man, Germany, etc, up to the specified limits. I'll repeat the link I made in an earlier post http://www.garantiedesdepots.fr/spip/spip.php?article48&lang=en, and defy anyone to find where it states the Fonds de Garantie des Dépôts will prejudice against non-French, non-resident second home owners or others, holding accounts in a French bank - http://www.garantiedesdepots.fr/spip/spip.php?article53&id_rubrique=18
 17.
Only applicable for those foolish enough to have funds in the Bank of Toytown.[blink] Just out of interest, can anyone name or even admit to having funds with a financial institution within the EU, which is not registered as required by law, with the relevent financial services authority?
 18.
OK one for you anoraks. mmmmmm, I'd prefer the term 'military history enthusiast'.[:)] Is there actually any difference between a Nissen hut and a Quonsett hut? Did one pay royalties to the other? Interesting to see in some publications, the Americans like to refer to the Nissen hut as being the "British version of the Quonset hut". Some differences in constuction but a very similar design. As to royalties payable or breach of copyright, the company waived all patent rights during the war years, something the US  obviously took full advantage of. Nissen himself died in 1930 aged 58, but the firm he founded continued with the Second World War bringing back a surge in demand. It continued production and finally ceased trading in 1971.  used to rent a Nissen hut to operate my part time car repair business when i was an apprentice and saw loads of  Quonsett huts in the Pacific islands, I even lodged in a few in Vanuatu but to my untrained eyes they were the same animal, perhaps the ones used by the septic tanks were bigger [6]
19. An excellent read on the history of the subject, "Nissen of the Huts: Biography of Lt.Col.P.N.Nissen, RE DSO by Fred McCosh", sadly now out of print but copies do spring up from time to time on ebay or Amazon. Nissen must be turning in his grave at the thought of the cost of the lottery funded restoration. Following the end of the First world War, Nissen as the patent owner was offered £500 in royalties from the War Office, subsequently accepting the sum of £13,400 after the intervention of his patent agent in the negotiations.
 20.
The actual guarantee fund would only cover a few thousand account holders.....[:-))] The topic was in fact covered recently in an M6 Capital investigative journalism programme, unfortunately in french, perhaps you overlooked it.[:P]
The topic is also covered here in greater detail than the local rag, in French or English. http://www.garantiedesdepots.fr/spip/spip.php?article10&lang=fr Worthy of bookmarking by any budding expert on money matters. Well impressed by the appearance of Alessio on the box last night, "If you can't afford the £500,000 house, wait for a recession and when the house price drops by 40% - then make your purchase, that's what I meant by saying I would benefit!" Sound advice, especially from someone who apparently lives in a £200,000 semi in Bexley Heath, which is in his partners name as the mortgagee!
 21. You'll need to identify which carb is fitted but http://www.mowermagic.co.uk/acatalog/ZAMA_Carb_Repair_Kits.html offer a good range of repair kits covering both Zama and Walbro carbs, far cheaper than buying the 'Stihl' branded equivalent, and they'll ship to Europe. Send them an email with details of your saw, model and serial number, and I'm sure they'll be able to help. Failing that, send me a PM with the details and I'll see if I can source a kit locally.
 22. Pachapapa, if you can't offer anything constructive about something you obviously know nothing, why bother posting?
 23. To the OP. It sounds like the diaphragm within the carb may be damaged. This link may be useful in showing the inner workings of the carb, and you should be able to obtain a service/repair kit without too much of a problem.  http://www.zamacarb.com/pdfs/TechGuide_2007.pdf I'd be tempted to crank it a few times using carb cleaner and the spark plug removed, then leave it for a few hours before trying to fire it up again.
 24.

Glowplug?  I don't think it's a diesel chainsaw.
But Q & SS use diesels, slightly heavier, no problem of course for stalwarts.
Care to elaborate?
 25.
In the meantime having NOT benefited from a Post Graduate year at the Cass you and Q could well benefit from Alessio's Understanding Investment Course starting to day friday 30th.[:P]
One thing Q and I have in common, unlike you we don't have a propensity towards bragging about ones education, amongst other things. However, if it makes you feel superior in some strange way - so be it! But please don't make assumptions that you are the sole individual here to have undertaken a period of Post Grad study be it at Cass or elsewhere. If you feel Alessio's Understanding Investment Course provides you with additional knowledge you somehow missed in your Post Grad year, then excellent and I hope you take great pride in printing out your  official course completion certificate at the conclusion of the course of study!
