Nelson replied to monsieur macon's topic in The Complete France Post Bag
Quillan I check the growth for the UK and Romania and surprisingly enough they are both projected to be 1.6% for 2013. -
Britain sleeping walking out of EU
Nelson replied to monsieur macon's topic in The Complete France Post Bag
Quillan Could you please point me to the data that says the UK economy is not growing or is this another of your made up facts that cannot be substantiated. As for not meaning to offend, you have offended me. -
No interrogation of DVLA records is necessary if you produce your UK license at the time of application.
-
I have on more than once done just that, walked into AA identified myself (provided license) filled in form paid fee walked out with IDP.
-
I understand that you are the font of all knowledge but this time you are wrong.
-
International driving permits are not issued by the DVLA but can be got from the AA, RAC or the Post Office. regards. colin

would it not be simpler and arguably more equitable to raise the qualifying age in line with the onset of qualification for the state pension for a woman? andyh4 this is such a good idea the government thought of it first. regards colin

Now, in the UK, basically don't touch them, if it is cold and you have a blanket then throw that over them but don't touch. Firstly you might get sued if something can later be proved to have something to do with what you have done and it was wrong and secondly they seem to think these sort of things should only be done by professionals which in reality means paramedics. Sad but rue the best advice is to dial 999, give the details then walk away. Personally it goes against everything I have been taught and my own personal morals and I find it very difficult not to help but thats life I guess Quillan this must be the biggest load of tosh I have read in a long time. Can you give any references to people in the U.K being sued for trying to save a life. (other than mal-practice by the medical proffession)

Scooby one last time . ALL I AM SAYING IS THAT BY HANDING OVER THE KEYS YOU DO NOT JUST WALK AWAY
-
Scooby all I am saying is that just handing over the keys should be the very last resort as any outstanding debt after the lender sells the property remains with the borrower. As long as the lender communicates with the borrower about the debt at least once every six years then this debt will remain forever, when the lender thinks that the borrowers financial situation has improved they will represent the debt plus interest. Benjamin Although the lenders are supposed to obtain the best price who`s to say they didn`t as far as I know there is no arbitrator. regards
My niece recently took on a mortgage in the UK and was complaining about the interest rate, until I reminded her that in the very early 80s my mortgage rose and peaked at 15%. She doesn't complain much now! So, yes, we have been here before, we just have short memories and forget that mortgages can be expensive, houses shoot up in value and then crash down, negative equity means that people just hand over their house keys and walk away from the property ..... just history repeating itself.
Then when things get better (as they will) the bank chase these people for the difference between what was owed and what the house sold for , plus interest of course.

Question re outside EDF meters for electricity
Nelson replied to tenniswitch's topic in French Finance
When we purchased our house in France we had an electrician rewire it. At the same time he organised for EDF to upgrade supply change meter and at their insistence install one of these readers as the house was now a holiday home. All the work done by EDF was free of charge. (were we just lucky) regards colin -
As an ex maths teacher bigears I would have thought that you would know instantly that your 1.85m vehicle would not pass under a 5ft 9in barrier. (easy to see where the decline started)

Nelson replied to Rose (& Greyman)'s topic in French Satellite TV, French Internet and Telephone
Just as matter interest I find that if I use IE7 to access ebay.fr I get that message and cant view certain items (probably the preferred language being English ). If I use Safari to access ebay.fr I can view any item no problem at all. regards colin -
How long from Calais to Chateauroux
Nelson replied to Megan le Fey's topic in Travelling to/from France
The route I always now take is:- From Calais follow signs to Paris, as soon as you see sign for Bordeaux (just on the outskirts of Paris) follow them. Keep following signs for Bordeaux, exit A10 onto A71 toward Clermont-Ferrand. Exit A71 onto A20 toward Chateauroux. This route takes you round the outer Perifique which is not to bad if you avoid the morning and evening rush. regards colin -

Eu constituition, have we all been sold down the river?
Nelson replied to PeterG's topic in The Complete France Post Bag
Tony after your reply I have now re-read your post and it now makes sense to me , and I do agree with you. Thanks regards colin. PS. I think a referendum may not give the negative result some people think it would, that is if you could get enough people to vote, always a problem in the U.K -

Nelson replied to PeterG's topic in The Complete France Post Bag
Tony I think I agree with you but could you explain what you mean by British immigrants, not the ex-pats. regards colin -
RH It seems from the booking I have just part made that they still charge to bring the bag back even if it is in the post regards colin
