1. I can't find a thread or post about this.  I am about to sell a RHD car on LeBonCoin that is too old to go back to the UK for sale. I'm researching prices.  How much do you think that a RHD car is devalued compared to its LHD equivalents?
2. Well done for wanting to rescue a dog.  They are so rewarding.  There are so many dogs looking for homes. Beware - many poodle hybrids do shed hair.  I rescued a poodle hybrid from this Forum and he sheds hair by the bucket load although he still has to be trimmed twice per year.  I read somewhere that only one third of poodle crosses retain their hair but I am not entirely sure if this is correct.  There is no mention of this in Wiki but there is some more info that you may find interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poodle_hybrids http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labradoodle
3.
I think lessons beforehand are helpful, but, I think regular lessons once he is there will be better.
Seconded.
4. A bit of a stab in the dark but you never know...  Please email me or PM me if you can help. One of my daughters (18) needs to get to Brittany on Wednesday 31st August or Thursday 1st Sept.  She could also travel on Friday 2nd Sept.  I can get her to most places in Gironde (33) or Charante Maritime (17).  In Brittany, she can be picked up more-or-less anywhere.  She is a non-smoker and won't have much luggage. I have tried www.covoiturage.fr but there is nothing suitable on those days yet. Fingers and toes crossed.
5. Three of my children started at different times in French schools with no prior knowledge of French.  They were all aged either 9 or 10 and, each time, they were the only British child in the school.  They are now in the middle of, or nearing the end of, their education and all say that coming to France was the best thing that happened to them. As adults, we forget the desire of children to speak another language.  It is that desire that gets the child through the first term. My worry for Jack about having pre-emigration lessons is that they might frighten him rather than empower him.  We all know how hard it is to learn a language in the classroom or with a tutor.  The idea of French television is a better one, as is hooking up with French children on holiday.  It is a more fun way of absorbing a language. Just my thoughts based on my experience of integrating three of my children into French schools, who were the same age as Jack.... DD - you can email or PM me, if you wish.
6. We do need to complain.  Addresses etc would be welcome.  I shall write if someone can tell me to whom we should send letters. The Billi building is bad for Bordeaux and bad for anyone with a business in Bordeaux. I think that the biggest issues are: * Lack of lavatories - there are five places where you need lavatories in an airport terminal but Billi only has them in one place:       (A) the booking area - no lavatories in Billi       (B) the departure lounge (after security checks) - there are lavatories here       (C) the holding area before a flight (after passport control) - no lavatories       (D) the arrivals hall - no lavatories       (E) for staff - I understand that staff have to go into the other terminal building? * Lack of seats in (A) and (C) * Lack of ventilation in (C) - this particular area is brutal if you are sent into it for too long a period before the flight has arrived.  It strikes me that because (B) is so small, they have to call you through to (C) too early.   On one occasion, when a flight was very delayed but the plane was on the tarmac, easyJet cabin crew came into the area (C) to distribute water to waiting passengers.
7. I have adopted a number of rescue dogs of all ages.  I also have fostered on behalf of the Labrador Rescue Association in order to check that the dogs were family friendly and could be adopted by a family. It is the way that you integrate dogs that is important.  When they arrive, they are naturally nervous and you should not mix children with them.  During the first week, I would do all sorts of things like taking away their food while they were eating, gently pulling their tails, taking away a bone etc.  All things that children do.  You then praise them when they do not over-react.  They soon get used to the idea. You have to do this to puppies as well.  So just because a dog has come from the SPA has nothing to do with it. An important thing is also to NEVER allow any child to tease any dog (or any other living thing, for that matter).  I am always correcting children on this, even those whom I do not know very well. It's just common sense.
8. I'm with Sweets on this one. Nationwide introduced the new rules with little notice.  The changes had a major effect on how we live our daily lives in France.  We have had to look elsewhere to access our UK money in France at an affordable rate.  You have to live in France full time to understand how difficult this is. Many of us only set up a NW account because of the cash withdrawal benefits.  Each of my family had an account and so NW have lost the regular custom of six of us.  I would like to know more about the commercial decision about why they instigated the changes and as the NW are a building society and we are members, we are entitled to know more.  The AGM is a good forum to find out. I am surprised that this is seen as whinging.
9. Looks like he had a great day out.
10. Interesting PDF link.  Thanks Pp. I'm confused.  Does he have two passports, one with diplomatic immunity and other not or was he just making it up? PS Who has a sandwich for breakfast?
11. Rose is a STAR attraction. [:D] I can also make Sunday 17th July.  Pigging out at either place is OK by me. Lots of love from Miss Piggy aka Cathy  [;-)]
12. The Britline covers the whole of France, even though it is based in Normandy. The staff at Britline are very good and are the reason that I stay with Credit Agricole.  They have helped me save a lot of money, getting the right accounts etc. My children also phone Britline for help.  They are emerging adults and although bilingual, are not that confident of talking to French bank managers about their finances.  All the staff are very patient with them and very helpful.
13. Round our way, someone keeps vandalising the speed cameras or taping them up with black bags.  The gendarmes will be putting a camera on the speed camera soon to find out who is doing it....
14. As a pure hunch, I think that French doctors prescribe kine (physio) sessions far more than UK doctors.  In the UK with all my children, I was only once put in touch with a physiotherapist for treatment.  Since I have been in France, the doctor is always referring my children (or me) to a kine.  So you would be busy if this is a general trend. As for English speaking?  You would need to be in an area where lots of Brits live, I assume.  Anyone who sets up a business on the basis of catering only for the British (or English speaking) community is on a sticky wicket.  Most Brits in France are quite impoverished - living off capital or living on pensions.  Very few make serious money in France. So I would think that you need to speak French so that you can treat French clients as well.  Just my thoughts.  I would be interested to learn if  they are shared.
15. Even if it was (were?) a honey trap, even if it was a Russian plot, the man could have just said, No.
16. When you are trying out the sweetness of the grapes in the supermarket, where do you put the pips?
17. The television is on in a different room so I can hear the music without seeing the acts.  The French act live wasn't as good as your YouTube recorded clip.  However, it is a refreshing choice of music. We shall see.  The voting is always a lottery and is more gripping than the music.
18. Thank you for your replies.  My son has been booked 3 sessions of physiotherapy every week, which is easing the tension a bit.  I'll report back when he has his shoe inserts.
19. I find them a nuisance.  I have to pay to get one for our holiday house in the UK.  There is no point because it is a very old house (over 300 years old) and so everyone knows that the energy performance will be poor.  The rent includes all heating costs and so holiday makers don't need to know the performance. Just more bureaucracy.
20.
Paul, when he looked good, On Moonlight Bay
Thanks for the memories...
21. My business plan is based on me winning the Euromillions lottery.  The problem is that I forget to buy tickets and if by some miracle, I get one in the tabac, I forget to check the numbers.  Great business plan, eh? I get to sleep at night, working out how to spend my win.  [Www]  Mr C doesn't get a look-in. I used to have an idea that if I ever won the lottery, I wouldn't tell anyone.  One day, when back in the UK, I was in a pub checking my emails by Wifi and I had a message from Camelot to check my online account as I had a win.  I was looking around the pub, wondering whether I would be able to resist telling everyone.  Sadly, it was only £10 or so so not even enough to buy everyone there a round.
22. What does AV mean?  I have an additional problem that the bloke showed me so I didn't include it in my list of things to translate.
23. Thank you one and all.  I wondered what those initials (ARG etc) mean.    I wasn't even sure whether to include them when I typed out the original post.
