1. 'Folding wedges' ie. shallow angle timber wedges pushed gently in from each side till they 'lock together' Do this round the frame behind hinge locations and in the horizotal opposite between frame and walls. drill and fatsen through to create a mechanical fixing which pulls up on the wedges. Gun in with gun grade foam then cut of the excess once cured (inc excess 'wedge') plaster and architrave as necessary.
2. Check the isolators either side of the pump if you have one and is the pump circulating or needing vented
3. I guess this is the place for commentary on what I guess some bright spark would call 'progress' or 'improvement' I haven't got the time or patience to read the preceding posts in this most user unfriendly of formats. Over the years I hope I have given some help and maybe a laugh or two but I think this time it's curtains for France Forum, least for me anyway. To take something that worked so well and do this to it is a nonsense and if I wanted lilac sideburns I would either get the hair dye out or plant a hedge round my monitor. When I originally 'joined up' I was attracted by a well laid out and user friendly format. I registered and thereafter one click and I was in....If you listen to yourselves..I have FF this and IE9 that...the point is with the original it didn't matter...you are in danger of taking the psychobabble shilling..this isn't progress in any way shape or form. (in car terms we would be welding up the doors and accessing and egressing via the sun roof) Good luck you guys...mail me when the world tips on its axis and whoever is sniffing the snowpake comes to their senses. A Bientot
4. Errr what happened?....I was fond of the 'old layout' now I have apoorly formatted  skinny panel surrounded by lavender fields...
5. Deflate a couple of  footballs (dark colours arguably best)  -- half fill them with cooking oil then pump it up to their correct shape (not too hard) leave floating in the trough half in half out of the water.........horsey will soon figure out all they need to do is push the ball down and water will come up round it. Trough will still need re-plenished though...
6. Another vote here for the Lidl tap..my brother fitted one in his house in Scotland a few years ago no problems and handy for filling the kettle when there's stuff in the sink...similarly filling a stock pot with water when the bowl is occupied. With regard to the Dobbins.....why not run a pipe out to the stables and below ground  where it will be less likely to freeze?
7. And do remember that many will quote by volume rather than lengths etc. Its a good idea to work out how much you want to spend before going there particularly as if you want to compare with Bricos you may need to calculate the price per cubic metre of their material to get fair comparison. I found for good Douglas fir I was paying about 60% at the scierie of what I would pay at the merchants and I guess Bricos are dearer still...cutting out the middle man. While I think of it...what I do each year is prepare a document like a devis and send it to local merchants asking them to price things like ballast, sand, cement, rigid insulation, delivery prices etc. they will be reluctant to price metal ie steel fabric or copper tube as these prices can fluctuate quite a bit. He who is cheapest is most likely to attract my interest! I find our local people only too happy and it gives me a doc I can print out ...point at their 'tendered price' and tell them how much of it I want...
8. I have adjoining hangars (ie adjoining the house) with cobbled floors from a previous life as stables or byres. Cobbles are pretty permanent and I am intending to put mesh on concrete plugs then simply 'float' slabs in to take the slope out of the floors and make sweeping up easier (particularly sawdust) No intention of these areas being anything other than what they are already...didn't think that would warrant a permis? Go and have a word with the Maire I guess..
9.

Does anyone know if the Halfords disposable ones at £2 each conform to the regulations? I've got family visiting in August and they were thinking of buying these.
According to the Halfords website, they are NF approved. However, at £4.99 for a packet of two, it would be cheaper to get a packet in France (apparently €3 for a packet of 2, depending upon the supermarket) There will be no penalty until November.
The supermarkets presumably don't manufacture these and are also resellers...The normes referred to seem to indicate a standard deemed acceptable...but not a standard deemed unacceptable. However if the things are that cheap anyway probably best to go NF marked just to avoid the discussion at the roadside.
10.
The problem for France is that they are not NF marked.
They address that on their site...I think they are saying that as yet NF has not been made law as far as they are aware.
11. I was looking for some information and came across this site ...in no way connected with myself but I thought the price may be of interest to the forum? http://www.value-breathalysers.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_BreathScan_Disposable_Alcohol.html
12. Sounds like a plan...and yes they do tend to get somewhat stripped...I am thinking Thundercat front end if I can just figure out how to get a speedo drive into it
13. I am intrigued as to what kind of car would have wheels so badly cast / finished that this could be a problem... Tyre outlets that use neat washing up liquid as a lubricant are a more likely culprit. Back in my motor trade days (1970s!) common trick when fitting valves or even tyres..a squirt of the angelic bottom of the garden dweller liquid and pop in goes a new valve...and guaranteed next visit there would be a fried egg of failed paint around the valve. (I should point out never a practice I have indulged in but seen many a warranty claim as a result)
14. Simple as that really , I thought I could cut and paste straight into posts but apparently not? Did there not also used to be an 'insert image' button or am I imagining things?
15. Sunny yesterday and today (Thus far) in sunny Falkirk....(Who would have thought it!) Baltic last night though....
16. Sunny in Falkirk..had a little spring shower earlier
17. I have a 'spare' Fazer...sitting doing nowt...costing me nothing and quietly rotting away in the UK I quite fancy taking it over France side and restoring it in what will be a nice workshop once done... Am I going to run foul of laws if its out of the country for a couple of years or is it ok just to SORN it? I am just wondering if I have to export it and reimport it...if that was the case I would just register it in France...as its only a 600 and already has KPH on the speedo..would this be a pain and more expense than the old girl is worth?
18. I am thinking of blocking off my old 'Cave' entrance (Traditional stair down to door) and making the 'section which is above ground level into a window...The small bow toppped window adjacent I was going to drop the cill height to match before installing double glazing to both...Permis required? Wont look much different at all but give me more useable space down below....ahem
19. Does it not have a switch which has 'on' 'off' and 'auto' positions on it? If so just extend the switched line back to where you want and put an indicator spur on it down line where you want it then that should do what you want?
20. Whaaaat? Stick a well trimmed bush in it???????
21. How does one check the potential letting value already being applied? it hadn't occured to me that the Commune may think our house a massively attractive rental proposition (Which it isn't) but applied an arbitrary figure nonetheless
22. Or have a lazy eye...I always pass that test
23. Fly it like that and things are bound to fall off...
