3. As last year, for presents for UK friends/family  I'm doing most of my shopping online from UK sites and getting things sent direct. Cheaper postage and saves wandering round shops, fighting with the crowds! Mainly use Amazon,  Ebay, IWOOT, etc.. Anyone got any fave websites for their pressie shopping?

[:D] Edit: And nope they don't all look the same. We had 3 black cats at one point all totally different looking!

7. This is all i've heard of It so far. http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-6219944.html
8. I'm not a big telly box watcher but want to start watching more French TV, to improve language. I occasionally have a flick and watch some stuff when i remember to. So for a bit more discipline, thought i should get into watching a regular programme or two. Just wondered what you all like watching on French TV? And does anyone else find it unbearable to watch anything dubbed into French? [:D]
9. Sorry to hear of your situation. There is some info on the legal system over here on this site, not sure if its of any use. http://ec.europa.eu/civiljustice/case_to_court/case_to_court_fra_en.htm I would definitely speak to gendarmes. That way if he turns up you can call them and they will immediately know the situation. Also, go and see a solicitor. Get some legal advice about injunctions etc. Is it possible to go somewhere safe for the time being? Hotel for example. Have you alerted your neighbours to the situation? Good luck and stay safe.
10. Just a thought, if your OS is in English and you take it for repair in France, that's going to cause problems.  Himself fixes our computers, so needs it to be in English to understand the complex pooter language.  Both my PC and his laptop are bought in France but the OS (vista and XP) are in English. Although i have a UK keyboard, he is easily getting used to his French one on the laptop. Also i find technical software i need to be in English.  All depends what and how you use your computer i suppose and what works best for you. It all about personal preference and not who is being the most 'French' about it.
11. In the unlikely event the OS is Vista Ultimate, you can download additional language packs from Microsoft. (MUI). So no bothers there. If it's Home Premium you can re-install the OS using an English Vista Home Premium OEM disk, if you can obtain/borrow one. You will however have to install all the hardware drivers again from the PC supplier. Possibly not something to do if you're unfamiliar with computers. You'll also need to activate the OS using Microsoft's activation telephone service. Maybe best to not go online until you have installed English version. The same would probably apply to Vista Basic. (This info is from himself who just got a french laptop and did just that)
12. Twinks i don't for a moment believe you have nasty dust! Where has it gone tho! [:@] It was pure genius! Don't you worry ........i'll send in sniper puss [6] EDIT: Maybe furry decided to release it for the Christmas no 1 spot so removed it for copyright reasons?
13. How's your French Val? Could you work on that, lessons, discussion groups etc. Oh and have you planted your Garlic yet and given your veggie patch a dig over! Planned next years crops? Any crafts or other interests you'd like to learn? Either that or you could develop a forum addiction![:D]
14.

ummm................cos it doesn't quite work like that! [:$]
Meg, you came up with your own answer to your own question a few posts ago, and this post confirms it in a way. If I'm reading you right you might never be able to be a 'social' drinker again. You can't possibly 'know' that for now, but I feel fairly safe in saying Christmas/New Year are not the occasions to test yourself.   Have you worked out a very short and simple 'thing' to say to people who are offering you booze? Something like 'no thanks' might do the trick, but I realise some people are insistent. It's because they don't understand.[:D]
Yep, i hear you Tresco. Umm what to say, not sure yet. Yep people are definitely more insistent at Christmas too i guess....'go on just one it IS Christmas' etc. Any 'am I pregnant' comments tho and they may have to have a slap![:D]  Honesty i guess? Definitely will make folks uncomfortable though. But where does lying get anyone?
15.
I see, that mean you have got to go for the kill or nuffink.............yes?  I know lots of people like that.
Um sort of, except a few months ago there was never the nothing!
16. A nice cup of tea! [:)] Very cool bench though.
17.
OMG don't put ideas there Virginia, I am sure he will be very obliging!![:)]
I don't doubt it!
18.
So what would happen if you had a glass of wine with your meal, then lingered on a brandy for an hour, then had say two cans of lager over the rest of the evening?
ummm................cos it doesn't quite work like that! [:$]
19. Meg

Argh!

Ok........ maybe I'm not totally calm! [:$]  But you can't talk!! HOW CUTE ARE THEM LITTLE 'UN'S!  [kiss] Gimmie one?
20. Thanks for the suggestions! Its annoying because i really would like to be able to have just the one on Christmas day, as it would be special and with people i love and I do want to drink again, but only occasionally and like 'normal' folk, so it would be a nice situation for my first drink. But i feel i should set an example to the rest of them that it can be done? (even if it means pretending i'm having a great time!) I am definitely going to get some grief about it. I suppose that why i really wanted a focus. Will be interesting, i haven't been in a social situation sober before, so i guess all the more reason not to back out at the first trial. As for pud and pies and cake, its more to do with the taste of the alcohol which worries me. AND like you can have Xmas pud without half a bottle of brandy burning away on it! OOOHHH and no liqueur choccies! [:'(] Mog is being abandoned in France with himself, so will probably resort to catching his own dinner........[:D] .
21. Edited my last post as i was trying to convince myself that its OK to have an odd drink this Christmas, and also to ease the 'discomfort' that my not drinking will cause my family. But nope, its no excuse, if they're feeling awkward because i am not drinking it isn't my problem, it's theirs! And if i remain strong and set an example to prove it isn't necessary to drink then it may just make them think a bit more about their habits. And you never know might give them a few more years of life! And if i can get through it not drinking it'll be a huge achievement for me personally! So, anyone got any nice, booze free, healthy (ish), Christmas flavour type food or drink recipes? (or survival plans?)
22. I'm totally off the drink at the moment Clair. (Sorry forgot to mention that bit!) Nowt since 15th October.
23.
Whose birthday??? [blink][8-)]
Is there a birthday? How did everyone know about that?
24. Off to UK for Christmas. I'm a bit stumped what to do with this non booze scenario. My family all drink a lot and we will be off to a few socials as-well. For me Christmas day was the one day when drink can be consumed from breakfast time onwards. But apart from that, i guess they'll be no mince pies, mulled wine, champers, Xmas pud, Xmas cake, brandy butter, trifle and other alcohol puds or the ridiculously expensive Remy Martin. [:'(] Oh and I'm not eating much fatty icky stuff either! All of which will be available by the bucket load. What on earth am i going to eat/drink?! After all they do say eat, drink and be merry! And Santa can damn well make do with a glass of water and an orange this year. (yes i do still leave him something.......[:$])
25. Meg

Argh!
