1. Phew!   Wonderful hubby came went to L'Eclerc and bought and internal amplified arial for 19 EUROS, now we can pick up all the terrestrial channels!  Yipee!! Goodness knows how other folks in this block manage as the main arial is obviously rubbish.   I'm happy now [:)][:D][:)]
2.

Yes in Switzerland (but only some parts) it heralds the arrival of a baby. The more trees you have the more people like you.
Do you mean the neighbours break in and plant these things in your garden while you're in hospital having the baby?[blink]
They sure do!  Nowadays it's more common to get a sign with the baby's name and date of birth, instead of the tree.  When our youngest was born we came home to find a giant disney dog attached to our balcony, with her name in giant letters for all to see.  We had no idea who it was from.  It's traditional not to admit to it!  We just threw a party a few weeks later to thank everybody in the village.
3. nice one!  That's one for my hubby! [:-))]
4.

Can anyone tell us what are those long poles with trees stuck on the top of them that many people seem to have outside their houses!!?? We cant work it out! Dale
Are you in Alsace? or Auvergne?... In some areas it means that the builders have finished building a house up to a certain point at which the owner takes over. The small Xmas tree type decorated with buntings is hoisted atop the chimney (or on a long pole) and a small fĂȘte is made of it between the builders and the owner of the house. At the owner's cost I may add!....
This can also herald the birth of a baby......... I'm no France expert, but this is common in Switzerland.
5. It's Rio Loco time here in Toulouse.  Just accross from our place we have a park which has been transformed into a music festival sight.  Two big stages, big screens, beer tents galore (yippee!) and a HUGE dancefloor. It got off to a bit of a wet start last night, but we fully intend to go over as much as possible over the next few days.  Should be fun. Is this a nationwide party?
6. Amazing, truly amazing! Surely he's not a TRUE Sctotsman??? [:-))]
7. so gutted that we didn't get to see it, but I had text messages coming out of my ears, and we did as you suggested and kept up to date online. At the weekend we'll be heading down to the pub to watch! My dad, ever the voice of optimism (not!) has now written England off.  Now, this could mean good things, because my dad usually gets it horrbily wrong [;-)] Let's hope so hey! [:)]
8. My heart is sinking [:(] We must be the only people in France who cannot tune our TV to TF1. We don't have sattellite, so no Freeview. We have a Freebox, but non of the channels on that are showing the footie. (Canal + Sport showed the first England game but since then it's been Golf or Badminton [geek]) We've fined tuned the TV, but to no avail.   We can just about pick up M6, so we get some matched through a snowstorm- Has anybody got any ideas what we can do?? [:(][:(][:(]
9. There's also TWIG Toulouse International Womens Group www.twigsite.org There are LOADS of Brits in Toulouse.  We live in the town centre.  PM me if you want more info.....   Rosebud
10. There are quite a few in the 09 and 11 who have been here for ages!
11. I missed it but it sounded good.  What happened??
12. I'm confused.  Maybe it's this heat. Either Miki has lost his marbles and has taken to posting big blanks([8-)]).....or has something been deleted?   Switzerland just scored  whoooooott!!!!!!! [Www][:-))]
13.
Can we get this back on topic please, as I understand it we have a long way to go to the finals. Argentina looked pretty good yesterday - will they win ? When are England playing again ?
Did you see Maradonna (is that how you spell it?) cheering in the crowd?  He's made a recovery, last I heard he was close to death! England play again on Tuesday against Sweden......
14. Thanks Miki.  I don't have much knowledge of football, but reading the reports in the press it seems they are quite scathing of Sven playing Gerrard 'too far back'. I fear your previous post is right.  From what I've seen so far it doesn't look like victory for England.  I too hope that Rooney can take the pressure. Fingers crossed!
15. somebody tell me why Gerrard is so far back please......
16.
That's an interesting site mentioned above, makes you think.   As long as we all try to respect each other and accept each other for what we are (sometimes difficult), whether we write correctly, perfectly or not, but all join in together without having to worry about being judged or jumped upon, just for fun and to learn something, then maybe we're on the way to achieving Netiquette.
Couldn't agree more Christine!
17.
Just built a wood fired bread/pizza oven and have been slowly drying it out and now it is ready to use. Does anyone else use a wood fired oven? It is curry night sunday night so it's naan bread first from the oven with the green tomato curry, okara curry, spicy chick peas, aubergine and potato with tamarind sauce plus the onion bhajees and popadums....... mmm Pizzas next...
Can I come??
18.
It is my understanding that French law only recognises married couples (husband/wife) for joint house ownership, and that any other relationship becomes difficult due to inheritance laws.
You can do it in joint names, but it makes inheritance really complicated if you don't have children.  The Notaire will no doubt try to discourage it.
19.
Do the supermarkets deliver ?  (Will Tesco go bust when I leave? )
If you're living close to a large town they might.  I've used www.houra.fr before for online groceries, but stopped because they don't take back the boxes.  I ended up with boxes stacked floor to ceiling.  Not very environmentally friendly. Where are you moving to?
20. Lovely on top, prickly underneath....or is it the other way around?? [:)]
21. We listen to the BBC Radio via the PC, and were hoping for ceverage of the England match on Saturday to accompany our viewing on Canal +.  Five minutes before kick off they announced that due to 'contractual' reasons  thery were unable to broadcast to non UK IP addresses. [:(]
22. Thank you Cat.  That's exactly the problem I have.  I'll try to contact James......
23.           Come on Switzerland!!!  [:)]
