  1. If anyone is interested, tonights "Timewatch" features Maisy Battery. It's on BBC2 at 21.00 UK time. Dean.
  2. I visited Maisy Battery in July this year, and in comparison to most D Day museums it was very 'basic' - but this does not detract from its appeal, quite the opposite in fact. The site is as excavated without any fancy light displays or sound, just the basic information describing what you can see. As a result you get more of a feel for the period and what the soldiers of both sides went through. I had a chat with the (British) lady on the reception (caravan) who explained that the chap who found the site just wanted the  US Rangers to be recognised for their achievements in their assault of this heavily defended stronghold. This is not a moneymaking exercise for Gary Sterne, more of a labour of love. The museum is under continual development with more areas being opened to the public as and when possible. If you are in the area then I would strongly recommend  a visit. Dean.
  3. It may help to know what car you have, I have a Citroen Xantia as a runaround and often when I park it the suspension groans. (actually my teenage son describes it as  'a farting car ! ) Dean.
  4. I'm shocked Ford Anglia ! 'Humberside'?   Lincolnshire surely? I live in East Yorkshire on the North Bank - Humberside was binned (quite rightly) many moons ago..... Dean.
  5. Hi, I have to deal with this problem daily as I drive a left hand drive roadsweeper for a living (in the uk). The answer is an extra mirror angled out further than the usual one on the offside. On my Daf I have a 'D' shaped mirror arm with the extra mirror above the normal one , the glass in the extra mirror is of the convex style. Trial and error is needed in setting the angle but once set junctions and roundabouts are a doddle. If you can't fit a 'D'shaped arm then fit an aftermarket door mirror higher than the normal mirror, you may like to fit a 'kerb'mirror as well. These fit to the top of the door looking down at the ground and (my own preference) slightly to the rear, these help you to see cars and cycles in the lhd blind spot. Hope this has been of help, Dean.
  6. Hi Opas, What programme are you using to send the mail? If it is outlook then open the programme, click on tools on the top of the screen and select options and then receipts. But as you you will see the recipient can opt not to send receipt if they wish, a feature available on most e-mail programmes I believe. Dean.
  7. True Bretons seem fiercely proud of their Celtic heritage. On holiday in Perros Guirec last year (on a camp site full of Brits) we met a group of local Breton seamen celebrating the end of the holiday season in a loud, tuneful fashion. It was quite amusing to see the Brits watching from the sidelines in silence. After chatting to one of the seamen and mentioning my parents were Welsh (father) and Irish (mother) I was welcomed into the fold in a very liquid fashion! (I seem to remember finding my legs could not communicate with my brain by the end of the night-resulting in  a long erratic walk back at the end of the night) Dean.
  8. Thanks for that Ecossais, I'll dig out one of the relevant papers and try them. Dean.
  9. Oops! I meant the Daily Express not the Daily mail! Dean.
  10. Hi all, Can anyone help me, I have been collecting the free French Language course by Michel Thomas that was given away by the Daily mail last week. the problem is I managed to miss collecting disc number 3. Has anybody got a spare disc or one I can copy? Thanks, Dean.
  11. Hi Graham, go to http://trucknetuk.com/phpBB2/    I'm sure you will get the info you need there. Dean.
  12. How's this for potential confusion- my job is driving a 14 ton roadsweeper which is left hand drive (this is in the UK) we have two cars, one automatic and one manual which I often jump into after a day in the sweeper. Before now I have jumped into the automatic and wondered why the blasted gearstick wouldn't move properly and conversely sat in the manual expecting it to move just by using the accelerator pedal!  I spend the working week driving on the wrong side of the cab in the UK, and then on holiday I'm on the right side of the car but on the wrong side of the road!! Dean.
  13. Hi Ab, Try the following link http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/C5-L/ you may have to join (free) but you can search the archive or just post your question again, someone on the list will be able to help I'm sure. They have solved a few problems on my C5 in the past. Dean.
  14. Hi All, I have been given a tin of Confit de Canard (4 cuisses!)and would welcome suggestions on how to cook them.In the past I have gone the usual 'saute in their own fat ' route but thought I would ask you folks for any other recipes you may have. The author of the recipe used will have several glasses of wine raised in their honour whilst I cook it - and also during the meal. (I am a big fan of Keith Floyd!) Thanks in advance, Dean.
  15. Hi, If you buy the latest copy of "Treasure Hunter" magazine there is an article on detecting in France. I intend taking my detector to France this year as a result of reading it! Dean.
