1. All our old stone walls are lined with those thin red terracotta bricks, and partition walls are built with the same material and then plastered. Having seen vast areas of wall built in this fashion in other houses, and on makeovers abroad, how do they get the wall so flat and straight, especially when it doesn't appear to be tied in to old stone? I always get the impression that a good shoulder-charge to a partition wall would punch a hole straight through it. Because it's so thin, why doesn't it start to bulge after a certain height when the mortar still hasn't set? Someone tell me that, and I'll de-mystify computers for you. [:P]
2. Looking at the ViaMichelin route (we want the quickest), it's about 1300km, of which nearly 1200km is motorway/dual. Averaging 100kph (if we could), that's 13 hours + stops. Looking to see if it's feasable in one haul with two driving...
3.
"Be aware that any trailer over a certain weight limit, typically car trailers or larger 4 wheeled braked goods ones, must carry their own carte grise. Trying to register a U.K. purchased one could well be as difficult as registering a caravan." Any trailer over 500kg laden weight (PTAC) must be registered and have it's own registration document and number plate.
Really? I was under the impression it was 750kg, hence that's the max for most common-or-garden (excuse pun [:P]) trailers seen. Just to clarify, are you talking about the all-up trailer weight when fully laden, or just the actual carrying capacity (normally 500kg as described)?
4. Glad you've sorted it. [:)] As spyware/malware aren't technically viruses, a lot of anti-virus products won't pick them up because their signatures are so different. Hence the need now for specific anti-spyware progs. Paying for removal? Ah, yes. Unless you know where to get the crack codes... (so I'm told - and searching for cracks downloads trojans if one isn't careful - so I'm told). [:P]
5. Aren't you using any sort of decoder box at all? How is the dish connected to the TV? If the dish has moved a fraction, I don't think that should account for 'freezing', but nevertheless I take it you've checked dish alignment, water ingress, cable security etc?
6. Generally, progs like AVG quarantine viruses and put them in a virus vault, from where you can delete them. Often they aren't automatically deleted as the file may be important to your system, so you need a choice whether to delete or not. If you Google the name of the virus, it'll tell you exactly what it is and what it does. Most trojan downloaders I had came in the form of a Java zip file, which could be deleted with impunity. Protecting your computer from GETTING a virus? AVG has done just that. That doesn't mean that it won't download it. What it will do is warn you if you try to run a prog with a virus. You can stop worrying. [:)] It's part of the learning process in what av products do, what viruses/spyware/malware do, and what you perceive as the consequences. Come back if you're still unsure. PS - most trojan downloaders allow other files onto your system which in turn install spyware/malware/popups et al. Make sure you've the very latest AVG update, and also install anti-spyware if not already done so. Xoftspy is very good and free.
7. Well, has your friend actually tried it? Apparently not, so why not? How do they access their mail? Via Outlook Express, Thunderbird etc., or by logging on to free.fr? It would be easier if your 'friend' posted their query here. It's not so easy when it's a second-hand problem. Plenty are willing to help if we know what has/hasn't been done.  [;-)]
8. Can you say how old your second-hand kit is, and what version of Windows you are running? Monitor, check as advised, and check both the power lead and signal lead. Sometimes they work loose and you may just have a loose connection. Spyware can throw up all sorts of wobblers and error messages, designed to get you to part with cash by clicking on the link. Download something like Xoftspy (anti-spyware/malware), and also make sure you've got reliable anti-virus running. Rather than pay through the nose for Norton/Symantec, AVG is free from grisoft.com and is highly rated. Hope that helps.
9. I discovered that - pull the plug when the connection drops, give it a few seconds, and plug it back in again. Interestingly, it only happened under Windows XP. Now that I'm using Linux and a network card (not USB), it hasn't happened at all in the past month.
10. Singers, 67, '68 and '69. Sembawang, Nee Soon, The Raffles, Bugis Street, Bukit Timah Road, JB, Changi, VC10s. Ooh, it's all coming back. [:D]
11. You can still use your English TV and Sky box and card, and you'll get all the usual suspects of channels, but I don't think you'll get Sky Sports if you cancelled your subscription. And of course you won't get French TV on an English receiver, BUT, you can alter language settings in setup and get Euronews in French. Good for learning.
12. Underneath right next to where your phone line goes out, there's a little black plunger switch... I only found it by accident and I don't think it's in the documentation.
13.
Hello all, My wife and I have just purchased a Chalet on  a holiday park, what is the situation regarding the need for a TV license if we put a TV in the chalet. Would every body on the park have their own license, or, would the site owner have have a license that covers all the caravans/chalets?
We're simply assuming that this chalet is in France, and not that you live in France and decided to buy a chalet in the UK... [:P]
14. The orange site isn't exactly intuitive. Try being on your email page and try to get logically to your pages-perso... [6]
15. What happens if you go here and select autre utilisateur? You should be able to log on with her email and mot de passe.
16. Domain, Registrar, Nameserver -  all blank. Something verrry fishy is going on... [8-)]
17. Until a few weeks ago I was using [email protected]. It may be worth trying that and [email protected]. I'll see if I can dig out another.
18. Hi, Choochoo - firstly, your post is hard on the eyes. It screams when it's large and bold. Any particular reason? Sight? [;-)] Down to business: 1.    How long has it been going on? Did you install anything just before all this started? 2.    Are you running Service Pack 2? 3.   When did you last defrag the drive? If you want a defragger far more efficient than Windows' own, download free drms-s and buzzsaw-s. 4.   Are you running any anti-spyware/malware. If not, it's worth it. Try Xoftspy - it's free as well. 5.   Defrag, run AVG and some anti-spyware. Let's eliminate what we can. If you still get probs, it may be time for a fresh install - assuming you've checked all leads and cabling for security. Considered opinion is that a Windows OS benefits from a fresh install every year. There'll be arguments against (don't fix what ain't broke etc.,), but a lot depends on what you actually understand about computers. And it's no big deal. Something else can cause probs: computer running too hot and not enough ventilation. Has it been moved recently? Something to be going on with. If you go down the route of a fresh install and your hard drive isn't partitioned (I don't know what your computer knowledge is like), come back. I'm currently triple booting ME, XP and Linux.
19. ... bought new Internet security software... You did WHAT? [+o(] There's plenty of good free stuff out there. [;-)]
20. Sounds like there may be something wrong with Orange. Clicking on identifiez-vous should at least give you time to log on. Which web browser are you using? (IE, Firefox, Opera etc.) The fact that you didn't automatically log on could also mean that: a.   your browser has lost its settings b.   you haven't saved the logon as a bookmark c. your browser config is otherwise corrupted. Have you tried shutting down your browser and rebooting? It may pick up the settings again. Can you try it on a different computer and see if the fault replicates?
21.
192.168.0.1 is a web server belonging to Bigpond.net...
Just to be sure, I checked 192.168.0.1 at Internic - No match for nameserver "192.168.0.1". >>> Last update of whois database: Fri, 30 Jun 2006 15:17:05 EDT <<< Masked local address, so it certainly appears to be a local config problem.
22. Two things you could try, then: 1.    disable zonealarm, enable Windows firewall, and see if you still get the same errors; reverse it all and try again; 2.   to check your IP address, go to Start - Control Panel - double click Network Connections. At the bottom of the left menu column you'll see 'Details'. Click that once or twice to open it up and then let it settle (I have to)... and it'll give you connection details i.e. make of NIC, IP address, subnet mask, and how your IP address was assigned. E.g. mine reads Lan or high-speed Internet Connected Intel(R) PRO 100/VE Connected IP address: 192.168.1.10 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Assigned by DHCP (dynamic host configuration protocol) And run some anti-spyware... Spyware/malware is known to muck up computers, even though they aren't technically viruses.
23. That's computers for you! [:P] A bit more info may help. Which OS? Assuming Windows, then likely you'll have Windows firewall set, even if it's just to stop annoying popup reminders. More than one firewall running can give errors. The IP address may be that of yourself. Do you know if you're getting a dynamic or static address from your ISP? What sort of Internet connection do you have - dial-up, broadband, through a router? Freeware apps can be absolutely fine. Unless you've got real concerns, stick to the inbuild firewall, and as for anti-virus - get AVG free edition from grisoft.com. Most people I know use it. The other thing you could try is Xoftspy - this is anti-spyware which will run and update every day. You'll be surprised at the crapola on your system and the errors that it generates. OR, dump Windows and get a Linux package... Hope that helps. [:D]
24. I'll be looking at various sites and pubs., but first-hand experience from those wots done it is invaluable. Cheers so far... [:)]
