  1. I'm sure there is a simple answer to this. I want to insert a live link into a message. If I type in a link e.g. : http://www.livingfrance.com/instantforum/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=25&MessageID=42517 it remains as text. I can't see any clues when posting new messages, or replies. Peter
  2. Hi gaz 1)The link is : http://tlp.netfirms.com/pool.htm You may need to copy & paste to your browser. If you can't get this to work, click on the www button below and then on "pool" in the menu at the bottom of the new page. 2)I think it may be that your chlorine tablets "galettes" have not eroded because the water is not passing through the skimmers. Either the filter is only taking water from the bottom of the pool (check valves), or the filter is not operating. Roughly the filter should run 8+ hrs per day in summer, about 3hrs / day now, and 1 hr per day in winter (when water temp drops below 12C). Bonne chance Peter
  3. Hi I also inherited a pool. They are actually quite simple to maintain. I've made some notes here : http://tlp.netfirms.com/pool.htm Bonne chance Peter
  4. Hi I have an old friend who visits Languedoc many times each year. He frequently brings digiboxes out as hand luggage. Peter
  5. Hi Sorry to say but Hungarian, along with Finnish is incredibly difficult to learn. When the wall came down I worked there a few times. As the second language was Russian it was a struggle ! Peter
  6. Hi Here are the EU competitive list price comparisons for 1-5-04 : http://europa.eu.int/comm/competition/car_sector/price_diffs/2004_02_full_ii.pdf Again, you need to check warranty periods, breakdown cover, exchange rates, spec, accessory prices, etc. Also customer discounts vary by market. At present the UK ex tax list price looks competitive. They do not cover all models. You can get a more precise figure for the exact model by going to Volvo.com, selecting Denmark, then clicking bilerne, select a model, click on price. Quick Danish lesson ! (bil= car, tilbehor = accessories, find en forhandler = find a dealer, byg den egen volvo = build your own volvo) The other way is to phone a dealer. Most speak English and all are au fait with export sales. This one : http://www.sondrup-bilcenter.dk is in Aarhus which is served by Ryanair. This one is a big Scandinavian group who I have dealt with before. They have salesmen dedicated to export in the larger outlets. The link is to export information : http://cars.bilia.dk/default.asp?target=tds/tds.htm And finally there are French brokers who advertise in L'Argus. Remember that under the EU block exemption guidelines it is illegal for a dealer to refuse supply to customers in other parts of EU. And they must supply on the same terms as domestic buyers enjoy. If you have problems like long delivery times, etc threaten to write to the commissioner in Brussels and you will get better service. Bonne chance Peter
  7. Hi well its been quite bright, occasionally sunny, this afternoon. We ate indoors for the first time since May. Local forecast is min 11C, max 16C. A few days ago it was min 16C, max 25C ! Time to find some socks ? Peter
  8. Hi Miki "Peter, you have got me confused now, I am not aware he wants to "collect" yellow cards, except in this latest incident. Miki" The only reason to have the 1 match ban while he had a broken rib was because he expected to get more yellow cards without another 1 match ban ? If he didn't expect another yellow card, it was irrelevant ? Call me a simple old country boy, but I had this naive belief that football had something to do with the winners scoring more goals than the other side. Peter
  9. Hi Danish pre tax prices are very low for obvious reasons (up to 180% sales tax)but check the specs very carefully. Many manufacturers have very low spec cars to be competitive. Peter
  10. Hi no microclimate; It started here about 9.30 - black sky, chucked it down, thunder and lightning, etc. But it's "sunny intervals" again now. Peter
  11. Hi it may be cheaper to use a broker who can place part loads on trucks already heading your way. It is a long way to Vaucluse ! The drawback is it only works if you are flexible on dates. If you email me I can provide a link. Peter
  12. Hmm Well it rained at 07.00 this morning, and it is still cloudy. But I don't remember it raining yesterday. It is very local. I got soaked on Sunday morning in Calvisson, but it was dry back here, say 10km away. We do have seasons, even morning frosts sometimes. The frosts come with clear skies, and the days can be quite warm. But it is a very short winter. Spring seemed to be long this year, and autumn will be short. We still have not eaten indoors since May, but it won't be long ! Peter
  13. Ah So the idea is he wants to have the opportunity to get more yellow cards without missing the next game ? Hmm Peter
  14. Hi So reading all the news about Mr B and his yellow card, I understand he said : "So, I knew I had broken a rib and wouldn't be able to play for the next 3 weeks. People won't think I'm this clever, but I deliberately got a yellow card so that I wouldn't have to play in the next match." If he had a broken rib, he would have been ruled out anyway ? So what have I missed ? Peter
  15. Hi Well we've had lots of clouds, but not heavy rain (had some overnight in September, though). The sun struggled through the clouds this afternoon. I guess we are back to our 300+ annual days of sunshine. I actually find it a bit boring. I get up with the sun and don't see a cloud for months on end. Peter
  16. Hi It is quite competitive. Get as many quotes as possible. Buy L'Argus and try some of the online companies. NCB seems to go up to 50%.French companies will accept UK NCB. However, in France, max NCB is 10+ years. Better to get a letter from your UK insurance agent (or Co car manager) saying 13 years with no claim than a statement from your insurance Co saying 40% NCB. I found that with the NCB the cover was quite cheap compared with other European countries. They have also been generous in protecting my bonus where I would have lost it in UK (I've had 3 claims and none were judged to be my fault). Peter
  17. Hi and if you are eligible, you could be a Profession Liberale. No training course, free registration with URSSAF. But you will pay later ! SIRET only indicates that you are registered with the French tax system. You can read about the various forms of business here : http://www.apce.com Peter
  18. Hi Is there any reason why you can't have 2 passports ? Peter

    Trained killer ?

Hi Thought you may like to see how the training is going. Peter
  20. Hi I believe it is a privately run charity who organises this. The signs are supposed to represent the actual number of deaths on a particular stretch of road. As SB says, our local ones vanished a couple of years ago. Perhaps they research, then target different roads each year. We still have the withered bunches of flowers for recent fatal accidents. Rather sobering ? Peter
  21. Hi I also inherited a pool and didn't have a clue. Fortunately it is not too difficult. I've made a few notes here : http://tlp.netfirms.com/pool.htm Bonne chance Peter
  22. Hi EDF have a scheme where the owner can register his interest, and they won't connect to anyone else without the owners consent. Doesn't work if squatters are already connected. You can do this if the squatters are cut off for non payment. EDF are not interested in the theft of electricity once it has registered on the meter. However they will investigate tampering before the meter. They have a special investigation branch who monitor the installation. I was advised that I could not cut off the water supply. However the water board did cut off the supply for non payment. We went through a routine of squatter breaking seals and reconnecting, then attaching a hose pipe directly to the supply side, then water board removed the supply side tap, then the squatters moved into stealing others water. Ultimately the CAF paid for reconnection and covered the arrears. The squatters celebrated by leaving the taps on for 1 week (thus flooding a newly renovated ceiling below). The real problem is that if you can demonstrate you have no assets (man of straw) then there are no remedies : Bills : don't pay them Fines : don't pay them Recorded delivery letters : don't accept them Court order to bailiff : when bailiffs letter arrives - move valuable stuff out Expulsion order : tell bailiff they refuse to move out, so it goes back to court. Car : register in someone elses name Insurance : no need etc, etc My squatters had cars, DVD, TV, etc. They knew their rights and were able to live off the CAF for many years. The CAF, even under notice of non payment of rent (or court ordered penalties in lieu), continue to pay housing allowance. I have pretty big files on all this ! Peter
  23. Hi I've had squatters and had them evicted. Everything you hear is true ........ and worse ! You can email me on [email protected] for more info. Peter
  24. Hi I thought I'd be clever and use an online translator from Google. My French friends think it is great - totally incomprehensible, but funny at the same time. The "home" page is translated as "à la maison". See how many howlers you can spot here : http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Ftlp.netfirms.com&langpair=en%7Cfr&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&safe=off&prev=%2Flanguage_tools If you can't capture this URL go to this one & click on translate : http://tlp.netfirms.com Peter
  25. Hi I saw this construction system at a commercial fair. The polystyrene blocks are filled with concrete & reinforcing wire in the centres ? Don't know about the results, but the idea of insulating the pool seems good. My pool drops about 2C per night at this time of year. During the day it may or may not recover the lost temps. Peter
