  1. Apparently their seeds were used in the 1930's to get rid of tapeworm!!!  Bring back old medicine and thats a new business idea!!
  2. Verbascum Pulverulentum it is!!! Also called Hoary Mullein! This link     http://www.kuleuven-kortrijk.be/bioweb/?lang=en&detail=844       has other pics of it. Thank you for identifying it. For those that don't like them, the standard systemic weedkiller (glycosophate) eradicated my neighbours!
  3. Yes it does look like we have the same thing. I have a 'collection' of 4 but only one is at the flowering stage. Cooperlola is kindly going to put up my pics. I've got to go out but will back to google the suggestions in an hour or so! (edited for spelling!)
  4. Its not Phlomis either for me!  I've asked my (french) neighbours and none of them know its name but have seen them but i'm the only one thats not killing them (the plants that is!) off with weedkiller!
  5. no, it's not lambs ears either! ALthough the leaves (when smaller) have the same soft texture. The leaves now are about a foot long and are only at the base of the plant. The rest is all flowers. Its not Verbascum Olympicum either!! More ideas please??!!
  6. What i thought was an impressive wild flower my neighbour says is a weed! I've never seen one in UK and would be interested in knowing its name. They probably exist throughout France but i'm in the Loire region. It starts out with green furry (like rabbit ears!) leaves that became about a foot long and then sends up a giant stalk up to 5 foot high, sometimes more. This then has lots of small 'branches' with loads and loads of bright yellow flowers on it. At the moment i have one laden with yellow flowers and has made 6 ft high and it looks very impressive.....for a weed! I have pictures if anyone can put them on this site for me (as i've failed trying!)   Does anyone have any ideas what it's called?
  7. My 'Free' experience! Having had many, many, many (!!) problems with Alice i've now been with Free for 12 months. I'm pleased to say that on the rare occasion i had a problem i found their online help of great use. Their telephone helpline (1044) is charged at a local rate and i wasn't asked to contact the 34c per minute technical line, perhaps i was just lucky. My (french) neighbour had a problem with his freebox last month and received a replacement in just 3 days. This was free of charge as his old one was then proved to have become faulty. I think that for every good experience with an ISP there is someone else with a bad one, but I do hope you get your problem quickly resolved.
  8. Just seen this post and remember in 2005  having my brand new and unused spare wheel x-rayed at Dover after i admitted i had only owned my 1 year old car for 3 months. They asked if i owned the car (a Mondeo), how long i had owned it for and then immediately said they wanted the spare wheel!! It was a standard factory supplied wheel and i had to empty the whole boot in order to get it out. Then i had one rear door panel tapped and carefully listened to and that was it. No interest in the other 3 doors! Or the other wheels. Oh, and i had to specifically ask for our passports back as they has been left beside the x ray machine. So be warned if you buy a 2nd hand car - check out that spare wheel in case it contains something other than air!!
  9. Hi Does anyone know the equivalent to "Pepti Bismol" in France or any other non-prescription indigestion remedies? (liquid or tablets) So far i've only found some very serious looking medicines that you take before each meal etc which is not what i want for the occasional bout of indigestion! Thanks in advance.
  10. I think you'll find the price varies with the time of your sailings. AS of today, the half term dates you mentioned in an earlier post costs just £50 return. This is for a standard car leaving at 07.45 and returning at 21.00. As always, there are many variables and peak time crossings may be more expensive.
  11. Nelson - Our messages crossed in cyberspace! I quite agree with you and tried taking this 'issue' private on more than one occasion. I shan't be posting in this thread again, so hopefully that will be the end of the matter.
  12. This has been going on for too long and, to be frank, i've had enough of it. You can both find someone else to insult/be sarcastic to when you disagree with a comment that they have made. Thank you to those of you who PM'd me about this - much appreciated. Perhaps we can revert back to the original topic of this thread.
  13. "If Miki's posts are sometimes (but I defy you to say again always)" In my defence, I have never said 'always', i said 'nearly every post'.
  14. "Oh dear, "rabbiting being topical" was in relation to you rabbiting on here as well." The person with nearly 2,300 posts accuses me with 66 of rabbiting - Thats hilarious!!!! You've been in France longer than i've been on this earth...and i always thought wisdom and maturity came with years.
  15. "Presumaby because I recommended it and you wanted to get a dig in." Where on earth did that come from? Do i have a history of digging at you? Definite paranoia! I wasn't rubbishing the site - just pointing out where the money goes. When i donate i want to know it all goes to the cause i'm donating to. Simple. If there are costs involved i would like them to be specified. If that doesn't bother you then fine, i have no issue with that. Hi Albi - i was just wondering why the two had 'ganged up'. Mucky said in one post he had a stalker but i'm beginning to think Ducky is actually his admirer.
