  1. The sun is out, the air is warm, the birds are cheeping, all I need now is a pint of bitter and the thwack of leather on willow.. Rumour has it that there is a Cricket club in parthenay or at least somewhere in the deux sevres.. If such a thing exists, could someone be kind enough to post any details/contact info here please. Thanks, Tim *wanders off to put Ronnie Ross on the stereo*
  2. oh, and just to tack on to mazans post (he forgot to add this) the slots you found and could not identify would almost certainly be PCMCIA slots - about 2 and a half inches wide by 5 mm or so tall and usually two of them, one above the other.
  3. Funny that this subject has just cropped up as I was going to ask about importing an MG midget - if anyone has done so or is in the process of doing so could they let me know please, thanks Tim
  4. Jond - I think I'm right in saying that there was a forumee called Asterix(cks?) who has now left the forum for reasons best known to themselves. I'd also like you to know that you are not the only person sick & tired of having to de-cypher some of the posts.
  5. You'll have to speak to France telecom, as when we swapped from Numeris to DSl we had to change a shed-load of options around (such as call forwarding, caller ID and so on) also, just check that *every* phone has a filter in front of it.
  6. Sleep, sleep is always good. On a more serious note, try re-posting your queries under the "western france" section of the forum, where you might find more answers. Tim
  7. like so many people, I'm having problems with the pile of steaming canine detrious that this forum has become, thus I can't see the silly sod with glasses and a globe. This prevents me from insterting the link as it should be. Sorry, but thats the way it goes. Until such a time as the forum is standardised on a cross-browser basis, you'll have to put up with un-clickable links. Tim
  8. Not everybody uses Internet Explorer - in fact, according to my logs, the vast amount of people who have looked at that image don't! Anyway, like ai said, windows is quirky in so much as you can browse theweb without having to configure DNS. You do however need to configure TCP/IP properly, so my mistake for saying it might be a DNS problem, when it's more likely to be a TCP/IP problem - sorry on that count.
  9. I agree with Simon, I think it sounds more like a DNS problem however. I'm working on the assumption tht the machine is running windows of some sort, anyway: You will need the IP adress of your default gateway - this might be another computer with internet sharing enabled, or a router (the thing that connects to the internet anyway!) Once you have that, you'll need to go to start> control panel> network connections. Once there, right click on your wireless network icon, and choose properties. Then double click on Internet Protocol TCP/IP.  You should be faced with something looking fairly similar to this  (sorry for the size!) - what you might want to do is change the setting so you have a static IP adress that follows on from the gateway - so for example your gateways IP is 192.168.0.1, click the "use following IP adress" box, and type 192.168.0.2, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 and the defauly gateway being the adress you found earlier. Ignore the DNS settings, one of the quirks of windows is that it will work without DNS! if thats not the problem, then post back! Tim
  10. Well, my own server is running Debian/GNU linux, now been up for 14 days plus some hours (check http://stare-fr.com/ud.html for exact time) - I've seen a linux server that had been up for around about 3-years, which amazed me. Like the addage says, if it aint broke, don't fix it! Tim
  11. Alternitavly you can donate to Unicef via paypal: https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=tsunamirelief%40paypal.com&item_name=Tsunami+Relief+Effort&item_number=1&no_shipping=0&no_note=1&tax=0¤cy_code=USD
  12. When I said funny, I meant funny ha ha, becouse I'd happened to catch that screenshot whilst IIS was re-booting. Just out of curiosity, how long has the server been up? I just checked mine - been up 13 days 23 hours and 54 minutes Tim
  13. Just come across a new one, two small pop-up boxes (windows type) with: Could not connect to remote server http://127.0.0.1:45501/pl.html?START_LOG This is the second time I've had this pop up - originally I dismissed it as I thought it might be something to do with my own internal network (what with the 127.0.0.1 IP and all..), but this is the only site on which I get those errors.
  14. Tim, Well thats fair enough, I had a sneaking suspicion that might be the case. However, you might want to google livingfrance.com sometime, and you'll notice that the single search result points to http://livingfrance.com - I think it's safe to assume that this is a remnant of the pre-archant days, but surely that cant be good for buisness.. Fair enough not resolving the domain names to the hosts/IP's - but when search results get involved, then thats a different kettle of fish. The reason all this arose was becouse I deleted my browser-cache and wanted to keep my adress bar clear (for reasons best known to myself!) - so thus I thought I'd use the old google trick of searching for a domain and clicking the link. So popping livingfrance.com into google ( http://www.google.com/search?q=livingfrance.com&sourceid=opera&num=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 ) gave me the link I was after - only when I clicked it, it did not resolve.. I thought I'd best tell you about it and not having a direct line, made the post.. On an entirely un-related note, I'm curious to know what you do with hardware once you upgrade?! All the best, Tim E
  15. I'm still getting it - To quote the DOS prompt "Ping request could not find host livingfrance.com. Please check the name and try again. Tracert brings back "Unable to resolve target system name livingfrance.com" Under linux I get pretty much the same: -- [email protected]:~$ ping -c 5 livingfrance.com ping: unknown host livingfrance.com [email protected]:~$ tracert livingfrance.com traceroute: unknown host livingfrance.com -- pinging/tracerouteing the www domain also drops 100% of it's packets, but does resolve the domain name (pinging ecng-iis.livingfrance.com) Which is fine, simply means that the boys (or girls!) in the Archant IT dep have blocked ICMP (the "protocol" used for pings/traceroutes etc) - I've done that myself on my own domain for security measures. However that should not stop the domain livingfrance.com resolving to an IP adress, which it currently does not do.. Try typing http://livingfrance.com or even just livingfrance.com into your browser adress bar, and you'll see what I mean. Tim
  16. I just thought I'd let you know, but you seem to have a problem with your DNS server as the domain livingfrance.com does not resolve to anywhere and pinging the domain results in a 100% packet loss. Might be an idea to sort this problem out so those of us who are too lazy to type http://www. into our browsers can get to the webpage. I'd like 10% of all revenue created by the new traffic please Tim
  17. Most recent soundcards are full duplex, so if you have a recently bought computer, then you should be ok, using MSN messenger, you'll be able to talk, type and watch webcams with ease. Check www.messenger.msn.com for details
  18. Glad I could be of help Miki! You might also want to check out www.modrevival.net, which has a pretty good forum (not as good as modcultures though) www.dnagroove.it (Italian clothes maker/shop - loverly button downs) and drop Claudia Elliot an email ([email protected]) she might be able to help your freind out, she's very sussed & very pleasent - she writes a newsletter called Scene 64. My own personal favorite website for general links & club-night news etc is Paul Secular's London Dossier (www.londondossier.com) hope you get some kicks out of that lot! Tim
  19. It's Definatly the same guy Miki, he now has a shop in Russell Street, just round the back of Covent Garden - selling pretty much exactly the same thing as he did in Richmond. I've not met him, as the few times I've been into the shop, he's been elsewhere, but to my knowledge he still runs it. He now has a website telling his story, as well as doing mail-order.. Anyway his website is http://j.simons.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/index.jhtml You might also want to have a look at www.modculture.co.uk and www.uppers.org - both of which are a mine of information on the current mod scene. Belinda > I don't however get to shop there too often - I am vaugley planning to move back in the not too dim & distant future however! Tim
