1.
But what would happen if you box packed-up, do Sky just send you a replacement at your parents address? Obviously if they renew your viewing card it would be sent to the UK address, and then can be forwarded on by your parents.
I was referring to the quote from Grecian. Expat Paul - you have been very fortunate, I have had to replace 4 digiboxes (admittedly Sky+)
2. Your digibox warranty only lasts for 1 year, after that you have to pay for a replacement, you then get a re-conditioned box and 3 months warranty.  It is cheaper to buy another digibox from a dealer. Regards
3. Hi, You should be able to connect up to 4 EIDE devices with most motherboards, however I suggest you try the following setup, remembering to set device jumpers accordingly. Primary IDE Controller: Boot Hard Drive = Master Second Hard Drive = Slave Secondary IDE Controller: Third Hard Drive = Master CD-ROM = Slave Good Luck
4. Hi, In the 'Layers' on the left,  you have a choice of  'View'  Core, All Layers, Now Enabled, select 'All Layers' then uncheck French Presidential Election 2007.  Voila! Regards
5. Hi Chris, Have sent you a PM as the info I have for you gives access to some of your personal details. Regards
6. Hi, Sky are already transmitting 12 HD Channels, however the downside is the cost - £299 for the digibox and installation plus £10 per month if you subscibe to 2 other sky packages.  Check out the info on http://www.sky.com/portal/site/skycom/home   Regards
7.
I have been also looking at the latest Netgear DG834PN Router Modem which apparently has seven internal ariels and deflects the signal around the house using MiMO technology at 108mbps as opposed to 54 . These say it improves the range enormously and I would be interested to hear from anyone who has tried this router.
Hi Paul, Don't have one of these routers but I have read many reviews and labs test of the product, all praise the manufacturer for living up to their claims for this Router.  How unusual!   http://www.netgear.co.uk/common/pdfs/DG834PN.pdf   Regards
8. Hi, I use Bitcomet, you can get it from download.com Regards
9. Hi Jonzjob, I have no idea either.  However the friend who I assisted in re-installing XP pro found that when she tried to download a file or programme from the internet, the Windows download warning window was in French.  On investigation I found that she used the Orange internet icon to connect to the internet not the Internet Explorer icon, this told the download website that she was in France and adjusted the language accordingly.  On changing the default connect icon to the standard windows one it corrected the problem.  Maybe there are cookies on your P.C. from your I.S.P. confusing the windows installer. 10. Hi, I suggest you re-install both programmes and make sure that if there is a choice during installation you select English as the language. Have you upgraded the new installation of Windows XP Home to Service Pack 2? (if not already included) Finally, what advantage is there to setting the location to France?, I recently talked a friend through re-installing Windows XP Pro on a new HDD and set everything to the UK.  I just set the clock 1 hour ahead, and everything is fine.
11. Hi, Unless your new building supply you with Broadband as well as the other services you will still need to plug in an ADSL filter of the type shown in the link: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=45155&&source=14&doy=16m1   Regards
12. I thought the European Commision had warned ALL mobile networks that they must reduce Roaming prices or face stiff fines. http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/roaming/roaming_regulation/index_en.htm
13. Your P.C. has an ASUS A8M2N-LA motherboard with onboard graphics.  The GeForce graphics card you refer to (GeForce 6150 LE) is actually the motherboard chipset not the graphics card.  Unfortunately onboard graphics cards are not built for modern P.C. games as they utilise the system memory, and don't have 3D rendering.  Upgrading your motherboard i.e. flash bios is fraught with problems unless you know what you are doing, and in this case I don't believe it would make any difference anyway.  You could purchase a PCI Express graphics card (there is an expansion slot for this on your motherboard) with suitable onboard memory and rendering, either nVidia or ATI Radeon cards they vary in price depending on the spec. Sorry, but I had the same problem with my wife’s P.C. and in the end turned off the onboard graphics and installed an (in my case) AGP high spec graphics card.
14.
Didn't you mean "system backup"? If not why not.
No Gary is correct, XP system restore creates restore points when you change the configuration of your computer i.e. adding or removing software.  If you manually create a restore point before adding software you then know that prior to that change the computer was correct.
15. Have I mis-read your original posting!, looking at the replys I obviously have. Do you mean that when you start-up your PC your BROWSER starts as well?. If so just close it.  Broadband is connected all the time but you don't have to surf the Internet until you start your client browser i.e. Internet Explorer.
16. "I did not realise that only 30 years was needed for the full state pension - which is really what generated my enquiry. I thought I'd need to make a shortfall up" I think you have misread the article,  30 years is proposed for the future.  At present it is 39 years for a Woman and 44 years for a Man for a full State Pension  at the ages of 60 and 65 respectively. Regards
17. I joined early in 2000 and remember Rogs, Punch, Maggiem, coco and Will the Conquerer plus some who have (thank goodness) departed this forum.  I didn't post much but asked for and received very valuable advice.  Punch and I had a 'spat' with a well known poster so we kept out of the way for a while.  I only post now to (hopefully) give advice on subjects I am familier with, as there are many who will jump down your throat if they don't agree.  My username has never changed, though like all, I lost my posting record when the new software was implemented.  This forum is a valuable tool for those needing help and info on France and though I returned to the UK I still visit on occasion. Many thanks for all the help I received when I needed it.

19.
Seems to be my day for daft postings... Has anyone else registered with Sky for their free broadband service (for a UK address obviously), using a computer o/s the UK? Given that the location of the sending ISP can be determined by the software at the receiving end, I'm worried it could be the equivalent of ringing the service centre from the middle of France. I shall only be in the UK for a few days and - given that it's a location currently without broadband - there's probably a lead time for getting it turned on, which is my reason for not leaving it until I'm there. I'm surely not the first to try this...... paul
Hi, I did read your post carefully, the highlighted section gives me the impression you want to register in the UK, BUT take it to France to use.  Hence my reply.
20. Hi, As Nick says it is irrelevant where you take your sky equipment -France, Spain, Timbuktu.  Your Broadband will ONLY work in the UK as it connects via the telephone line (BT line) NOT the Satelite system.  Therefore you can't use Sky Broadband in France.   Sorry!
21. Hi Sarah, Many of my Friends use freesurf.fr for standard dial-up access to the internet, either they don't have ADSL in their area or just don't want it.  It works the same as in the UK using local call rates via an 0860 telephone number. Try the link below, click on ‘ACCÉS LIBRE’ its easy to set-up with no hassle. http://www.freesurf.fr/ Good luck
22. Neither Géoportail nor Mappy show the sharp definition that Google does in the areas of France it covers.  You may be lucky to find Google Earth covers your area. Don't forget that Google Earth, at present only cover 30% of the U.K. and as with Géoportail and Mappy the photo's are, in some cases between 2 and 5 years old.
23. Hi Russethouse, You haven't by any chance recently installed MS Office 2003 have you?, if so the Microsoft Office Picture Manager supercedes the old Photo Editor. Try the link below on how to re-install. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP011454871033.aspx Best of Luck
24. Hi, Don't know about Epson but you can remove the HP Ink cartridges and reinstall them, no problems.  I suggest (with the HP) when leaving the cartridges for an indeterminate period, remove them, put a piece of cellotape over the print heads, seal them in a plastic (food or freezer) bag and store in a cool place till you need them. good luck
25. Hi, Will posted this link in answer to this question on a previous occasion, it explains the difference and responsibilities of the various Police Forces in France.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_National_Police    Regards
