Sat nav has just given up the ghost completely, so I think it will be making a return trip to Garmin!! Only eighteen months old...... also I just bought the lifetime update thingy from Garmin - oh "S*d it"!

Hi Bob, Have managed to get it to click in now but when I ask the mapsource to download onto the Memory card it cannot find it!!! Sue
-
Yes did buy a micro SD but it had an adaptor with it, so put it in that and it is still too small!! Suey

Have a Garmin nuvi 255w, needed to update mapping so bought an SD card. It appears to be too small (physical size - not memory size). Am I doing something wrong or is there a special memory card for GPS. Suey

UK Public Sector Pay Levels 7.5% up on Private Sector
sueyh replied to Benjamin's topic in French Finance
I worked 42 weeks a year, 37+ hours a week, because of long service had six weeks leave so that meant that there were only four weeks that I did not receive pay for. My take home was £950 per month - I do not call that good pay and teaching assistants are generally paid even less. When it came to travel allowance we received 35p per mile (had to pay business insurance out of that!!). Teachers received over 50p a mile and when I questioned the difference I was told that it was because they had a better union to fight for their rights. Sorry I'm grinding my own axe now!! -
UK Public Sector Pay Levels 7.5% up on Private Sector

I would have earned a lot more in the private sector than I did as a School Secretary in the Public Sector!! -
Garda is beautiful, also Bardolino. Definitely agree Verona well worth a visit, not just for the Opera but also the city. Venice? Did it once, ticked it off my list, probably won't bother again. If you get the opportunity to visit as far down as Florence I would say a definite YES to visiting there. It knocks Venice and Rome into a cocked hat. Have a fab time. Suey

The problem I find these days is that english bought kingsize duvet covers do not fit english bought duvets. They are just a tad too small (the covers, not the duvets), so you get lumpy duvets! Suey

Does anyone have the name of a good online Herboriste for buying herbal medicine, plants etc. I have a problem with eczema at the moment, have tried hydracortisone cream but that does not seem to touch it. So thought I would go down the natural route instead. Any suggestions would be more than welcome. Suey

Will await the results, probably six months. Then if it is positive have to make the decision but until then I can just have the mammograms, etc. Night night all Suey

Thank you both. At present I have a smear test every year with an echograph to check ovaries internally and also externally. I have been advised to go for mammograms every year. Not much more I can do apart from have ovaries removed and as I am 51 (not quite menopausal yet) they are of no use to me really, only problem will be hormones and I can't have HRT because of the risk. Will keep you posted. Thanks again Suey

Thank you FairyNuff. Yes went along today, saw a lovely consultant who spoke only French and he was so kind and constantly checked that I had understood, I understood some but hubby, who was less stressed, understood most. I have to wait probably two to three months for the result of the first test, then I have to have a second blood test to confirm the result. If it is a confirmation of the fact that I may carry the faulty gene I can have my ovaries removed. In France they do not go as far as to removing breasts but recommend yearly mamograms. Suey

I take it that's a "no" then. [;-)] Suey

Has anyone visited this clinic for the brch2 genetic test. Because of my family history of cancer and the fact that my cousin has the faulty brch2 gene, I have to go tomorrow and am wondering what to expect. Any info would be gratefully received Thanks Suey

No coaches or lorries in Northern France
sueyh replied to PaulT's topic in Travelling to/from France
Well we travelled on the A16 yesterday morning (28th Dec) between Berck and Calais. The stretch between Le Touquet and Hardelot was horrendous with black ice. There were accidents, many cars in the ditches on both carriageways. The Pompiers were shuffling along because it was too slippery to walk. At one point the carriageway going south was closed because the road was just too dangerous. Our car was slipping just travelling at 7km. Very frightening. Suey -
It arrived finally with our Christmas mail. Nice Christmas present Mr Taxman and nice tax bill to pay. Suey

Thank you both. We are wanting to stay there for a week next June. I am investigating my family tree and Hebden Bridge is my grandfather's place of birth. Our only problem with renting a cottage is finding one where we can take three (yes 3) dogs! Thanks for your help, will try both those ideas. Suey

can anyone suggest a dog friendly cottage near Hebden Bridge? I know this is living France forum but there maybe someone out there who comes from that neck of the woods. Suey
