1. Vraititi  "Which one did you take Richard, wouldn't it be the IOL exam by any chance ?" Sorry nothing so grand just A2 interpreting paper only lasted 15mins but it weas enough Richard
2. It came up while working for the interpreting exam about 4 weeks ago I had never thuoght abut some of the phrases that I would need, particularly that one. R
3. Monika Present tense je me souviens tu te souviens il se souvient nous nous souvenons vous vous souvenez   To look forward to. One way would be attendre avec impatience ie j' attends avec impatience or you could use j'hâte de +verb which is sort of I am in a hurry / eager to   Regards Richard
4. I'm doing A2 this year and the last 2 or 3 months has been can I do this yes I can, no I can't in alternating cycles to the point of nearly blind panic now I just think "resit" I don't have a teacher as such and I know for a fact that I will not get to the level that is suggested in the revision guides right now I will be estatic with an E One thing I don't know which exam board she is with but with Edxcel it is the total number of marks over the whole six papers which give you the final grade so if she did well at AS then there is a good chance she will do well at A2 Wish her the best of luck I am sure that she will do well   Richard
5. No house in France at present still looking. How useful do you find the tutorials
6. Hello Please could you tell me if you work, on a daily basis, in a French company with French people or have most of you got Gites, B&B, or drive for a living? How intergrated are you with your French neighbours do you have the same level of freindship with them as you might have if you still lived in England? Do you find that you tend to cluster together in little english speaking enclaves? Many Thanks
7. Hi Stuart How do you find the course. I am thinking of doing it in feb I have seen some of the course notes and it seems quite intensive. What is the oral content like. I have spent 3 years doing GCSE and A level  by distance learning and that seems to be the down fall.   Many Thanks Richard
8. Qui means who which or that and is always the subject of the verb following it so use Qui when it is followed by a verb L'homme qui a vole l'argent (the man who stole the money) Que means whom which or that and is always the object of the verb following it Use que when it is followed by a noun or a subject pronoun L'homme que j'ai vu (the man that I saw)   Qui is never shortened to QU but Que is shorthened to Qu'
9. Hunter are a good Basic stove but there are better Both Effel and Nester Martin are French made and are very good in terms of finish, reliability, and burning.   If you want a good british stove try Clearview you will not be disapointed they are on the expensive side tho
10. The only wod burning stoves that I have seen that have this system tend to be built in Have a look at http://www.bodartetgonay.be They do a highjly efficient bulit in system   Richard
11. I would be interested in your thoughts about the course and its standard I am looking for something to do when I have finished the A level this year. How are the course materials what sort of standard are the TMA's How do you find the Tutors What are the residential weekends like Most importantly how useful do you find the language being taught   Many Thanks
12. You don't say were you are but if you are in England try the following Long wave 162, 183 or 234 they seem to be mainly chat except for 234 you can also have a look at RFI on the web   rgds
13. Thanks Lollie Just to make it absolutly clear I am not going to relocate to France without being able to speak French! I just wanted to know if there was any way I could prove to Mr Xenophobic Frenchman that I can speak and read and write his language
14. Thanks for your replies. Mr or Mrs O Thanks for the lead. Just to clarify, you drove your HGV for 5mins and about a mile and got the job? I dont think that I explained myself clearly. Are there any Language Exams that are recognised by the French that show the quality of language you can use so this is one area where it eases the barrier a bit? Or is it a case of wing it and see?
15. Tu I have wanted to live in France for at least 20 years but moving there has only become a realistic proposition since I have been learning the language
16. I have a question and I apologise now if it has been answered before just can't find any reference When applying for jobs in France do you have to prove how well you can speak the language If so how important is this. Obviously it helps to speak the language if you are considering working there but how much importance do employers place on certficates etc   Thanks
17. I expect to live today I don't know about tommorow and whats interesting I am planning for a future I might not have. These figures might be wrong you might all live until you are 100 plus they are after all statistics and you know what they say. Lies , Dam Lies and Statistics   stillits nice to know I will probably live longer in france than the UK
18. Dick Sorry can't agree with you. Certainly the ones out side your house at 3 am are, but the rest of us? I suppose we will have to agree to differ on this point Richard

I am not offended. its not the first time Ive been called that nor will it be the last but it is the first time for pursuing my passion Most bikers are law abiding citizens who show respect for their environment and slow down in built up areas. It is comments like yours that cause the government to think up more and more stupid anti bike legislation like 80 decibel exhausts which are quieter the the average car. Do you use that term for custom car drivers or is it just bikers that you see as antisocial
20. In moving to Darfur I would take into account a number of different factors. Death, Starvation, Disease to name three. Education and tax would not be high on my agenda trying to save dying people might be. Your point about research is well made but perhaps there is something that research can't tell you only by doing something can you understand it fully. Moving to Darfur I might understand the true meaning of suffering for instance. Incidentally I feel the same as you, some days I want to go and some days I feel like staying here. However I know that I will move because I could not live with myself if I did not. I hate that "I wish I had" when I know that I could feeling. I did find your site thought provoking which is why I joined the forum prior to moving rather than after. best wishes to you and your family Richard
21. Hi I would like to ask Later a question. I presume that you did not move to france and that your decission was based on the research you did. So you have had no practical experience of living in France. So how do you actually know what you are missing. It might be as you state a complete pile of smelly stuff but on the other hand. And before I get slated No amount of planning or research can give you an insight of the practicallities of doing anything. One other point, I have made this before on the language forum, but quite frankly I am amazed that people move to any foreign country without learning the language. How do these people know what is happening How do they know what is important and as TU rightly says they cost a fortune. We had a french girl working with us several years ago her English was not bad but she still had difficulty contributing And we had to find ways of explaining simple things which took time If we were busy it made matters worse. I can not imagine how a supervisor could work with French people not being able to communicate with them Imagine the respect the don't get Richard
22.
I think what Vanessa Redgrave said was 'please do not judge all Chechens by what we have just seen' This is difficult to do seeing everything unfold so graphically. This is not meant to diminish the ...
What ever Ms Regrave said or did not say these events should not have taken place. As it was pointed out to me today lots of people have lost relatives in wars and genocides but they have not taken the law into their own hands and murdered children How are the surviving children going to come to terms with these events. Perhaps Ms Redgrave should visit the area and then be interviewed again. best not broadcast the Sky or ITV interview there first tho' Richard
23.
Gay, I enjoyed the quiz. Someone at LF must have had fun devising it! M (who was practically all C's bar 1)
< Gay, I enjoyed the quiz.  Someone at LF must have had fun devising it!  M  (who was practically all C's bar 1)> MWJ Which question did you not get as a C?   Richard
