1.
Was this a reference to, and I quote: ... "I shall live in human tears and laughter, in human sorrow and fear, in human goodness and wickedness, in justice and injustice, in weakness and strength......
You googled this, didn't you? Or are you Finnish?
 2.
I do hope so! So you don't think it can be inadequate dish size?
I wouldn't have thought so. BBC transmissions tend to be the first to go. You said that you get all the ITV channels. Does that include ITV2? I assume that C4 & C5 are OK. Are the ID (0002) and the signal quality (>50%) OK? Still sounds like an authorisation problem to me. However, it is worth resetting the box; Turn it off at the mains, wait 30 secs, turn it on again, wait 1 min, press "SKy".
 3. A liitle, perhaps... Suggest that ITV1 will spring to life you wait (with the box on or on standby) for a few days.
 4. You could try [Alt GR] plus the number 4 on the top row of your keyboard. There was a download from MS to give you the € if you sre running a pre € version of MS, it works for Word, Excel etc as well.   Alt+ctrl+4 = ¬ Altgr+4 = ¬ (which is not suprising, as they are the same thing). This shortcut works for all other s/w I use (inc. the old forum). If Piprob sends you that quote can you let me have acopy, as I am having difficulty getting other quotes myself...
 5.
After all my years working for a seat-belt manufacturer, I am still surprised how sober people seem to forget to wear them, but drunks always manage to put them on. Seat belts do not save lives, but...
Seat belts do not save lives, but they lessen the risk of dying. Eh? Is this some kind of seatbelt marketing-speak? That aside, drink-driving costs lives and it is totally unacceptable. If people need to go to prison for "aiding and abetting", so be it. You would expect a prison sentence or aiding and abetting a murderer. wouldn't you? What I find ridiculous is that (it appears that) DD's who lose the licence (not guaranteed!) can drive one of those idiotic (dangerous, badly driven etc) "sans permis" vehicles - unbelieveable! Don't get me started............
 6. Welcome! Chestnut is very hard & woodworm will tend only towards the surface. However, tell that to the woodworm in the chestnut boards in my attic! BUT, of perhaps 75M2, only a few boards are badly affected...... The best bet is to get an expert to look at it. You could try to put a CS into the CdV about woodworm, of course the vendors may not accept it, as woodworm is a) treatable and b) rarely critical. If you are going to add a CS, then make it a "subject to survey" one, and get the whole lot checked! However, I doubt if the vendors will move on the price (such things are not done here!) if anything serious is found, but it could give you an out should you need it. Have fun!
 7.
Hi Nick, I managed to get to bed just after I posted the last one and got a good knights (?) sleep. I've had a look at the web site for the drivers, very comprehensive and worth a look. There is a d...
When I try to upgrade or dump the modem driver and try to reload the new one it asks for the modem CD to be put in drive 'D' (1st CD drive) and I can't get it to do any different. The driver I down loaded is in a file on my hard disk and when I give that as the driver address it beeps at me and askes for the CD. Don't give up! The screen that asks for the CD drive (as your quote) has a "browse" button on it. This will give you access to the driver on your HDD.  Failing that, use add/remove hardware from control panel and use the troubleshooter - it should be obvious if you get the PC to do a hardware search....
 8.
As Victor Meldrew would say "I don't belive it!!!" I have just spent about 1/2 hour keying in a reply on this idiot box to see it go down the drain as soon as I tried to post it! I will start again,...
Hope you got some sleep! There is nothing wrong with your config; When I had ADSL, it is exactly as I used (I did have an RS232 modem, however. Not that it should matter). The obvious thing is to unplug the USB ADSL modem and try again. I'm sure I don't need to tell you, but elimination is the best way to find this sort of fault. Search for new drivers for your modem (www.driverguide.com) - using the chip numbers often finds better drivers. Can you borrow and external fax modem (they only cost £40 to buy..) and try that (after de-installing you internal modem). Your modem is a genuine hardware modem (with a modem chipset on it) and NOT a software modem (which are cheap and often don't work), isn't it? What fax s/w are you using (windoze fax s/w is pants). I have always used Winfax (V10 at the moment) without problems. ADSL modems don't dial, they are not modems per se, they are adaptors for broadband TCP/IP to USB. They can't be used to "connect" in the modem sense, 'cos they don't need to.
 9.
Nick System is as follows sound-- creative soundblaster pci graphvoodoo 3 Pentium 3 450 128 mb ram xp professional version 2002, service pack 2 Does this tell you anything? Thanks, Chris
I can't guarantee it, but I suspect the problem is your processor speed and the memory. One solution is to change the motherboard (and perhaps the PSU, depending on the age of the machine) for a P4 > 2GHz, and the memory (to 512Mb). More practical, however, is to simply replace the system unit. You should be able to get one (sans HDD, K/B, mouse, Screen etc.) for around 400E. Fitting your original drives is a doddle. Of course, if your HDD (what is it?) is slow, then this will have an impact, too (especially when considered along with your lack of memory!) XP SP2 is quite slow (IMHO), especially on an older machine. You could take the opportunity to add a decent DVD +RW drive (not expensive) so that you can write files back to something. Or you could start again with a nice 19" LCD, digital sound, balck case, etc etc..... Or you could do it in bits until it works. HTH!
 10. I presume that you get a very brief blue screen with some white witing on it, just before the PC reboots. I doubt if you can read it! Turn error logging on (refer to the W2000 help - error, logging) & see what the message says. What sort of modem are you using? Internal, external, software?
 11.
Nick This beggars belief. I don't think I've made any negative postings on this site (except for a couple of well deserved giving as good as you get posts). Perhaps you could find one and show me. ...
Ho hum. Of course, I can't search for all of your earlier postings, because the forum software doesn't work, but this will do for a start; Well why are you wasting my time with your bile. You don't have to repsond to every post on the site. Besides which, I said "anti", not negative. Anti-France, I assume, but my point is that I am (and although I can't speak for them, others, are) bored of it. I really am not interested in starting a slanging match with you, as neither of us can win and it detracts from the Forum. Get on with your life (outside France) and we will get on with ours.
 12. Later asked a perfectly good question.  That is a matter of opinion, especially if you try to define "good". Isn't it one of those "when did you stop beating your wife?" questions? I read it as a troll (as have others) an an opinion which, in the light of his response, would seem to be confirmed. I say "his" response, but then I can't tell can I, because they choose to obscure their identity.
 13.
Hi Nick, thanks for the advice, I think it might be the card as my daughter has downloaded the same film and had dvd quality playback on a newer computer, do you think that just up grading the card wo...
No, to be honest. Your Voodoo should be up to the job (do you know what model it is?). What processor/memory/op. system are you using? What is your daughter using? And why has she got a better pooter than you?
 14.
... or maybe you could bowl me over with your support for the place so that I would have to rethink ...
We are quite happy to accept that you don't want to live here. We are all entitled to our opinions, but you do seem a little "anti", judging by your earlier postings.
 15.
... well I would have expected that from you******o One for, zero against.
And we'd expect someone with an axe to post this in the first place! If (and only if) I was not happy here, what incetive is there for me to tell you (and eveybody else), and thereby admit to making a mistake? This sort of "poll" (or is that "troll") is pretty meaningless. If you don't want to be here, why don't you go and find or start a not-living-in-france forum, rather than pointing out to us what twits we have been.
 16.
The "problem" is the source and connection speed!
This is true unless you are downloading the films onto your hard drive & playing them from there, which is what I suspect you are doing.. If this is the case, then your PC isn't up to the job. Any video requires alot of processing power (and memory). There is nothing wrong with your Voodoo card (I use one), but it does rather date the machine! BTW, films downloaded from the likes of Kazaa are of a notoriously poor quality, so this may also be your problem. But you wouldn't admit to doing such as despicable thing, would you?
 17.
All cards work in all boxes for all channels except the premium sport and film channels, and ITV2. Cards left unused for long periods (weeks) will forget their authorisation but this will return afte...
You're back! Aren't you?
 18. Hello Chris We have just had a quote for a pitched roof for a 7X5M extension (carpentry, insulation and fibro-type slates) for about 6970E (still can't do Euro's, ctrl+alt+4 gives me this:- ¬). This works out to about 200/SqM - floor space. Sounds too cheap to me... But it does come from highly recommended Maitre d'oeuvre (shan't even bother to try for the accents). Does this help?
 19. You could buy a voucher and not register it until your "emergency" happens. I don't think that unused vouchers expire.....
 20. Our local Mairie (22) has them on CD & she simply prints out what you ask for. I've never been asked, but they know me. Cadastral information is in the public domain (they may not tell you who owns a particular plot, however). I've never been charged Never asked, you could!
 21. Why are they not showing anyone around? Have they told you, and have you asked? Without wishing to sound too much like a C4 TV programme, there are plenty of things you can do, which will sell the house via any agent. Have you put it on TF? For some reason lots of people look there.
 22. It will take some time for the card to "forget" it's programming (actually, it won't get updated). The card will work in any box, except for the premium channels (movies, sport, if you have them). No probs, I would say.
 23.
Why would you expect a translation of a form if you are in France . French people speak french
Me too! Me too!
 24.
It is also possible in some cases - subject to the make of dish, to obtain a dual outlet (or even 3 or 4) LNB rather than buy and install an additional dish. Worth checking with the Satcure people.
Yes, that's what I think I said, although it isn't exactly what the OP asked. BTW, why would anyone punt a UK-based company to supply to France, when the parts are available in France (and cheaper)?
 25. There is a furniture fabric shop across the car park from Leroy Merlin in St Brieuc isn't there? I've been (dragged) in there a few times, but I kind of switch off as I walk through the door....... Tina would be able to tell you exactly what they have, but she's stopping at Tesco's in Worcester at the moment....
