1. I can't remember this being discussed for ages. It's been a long time since I had a holiday home but I'll try and recall.  There was no way we could have afforded to leave the heating on back then, as it was all electric. Now I understand that it costs hundreds of Euros to leave oil fired heating on as low as 'ticking over' for two or three months. A friend did this and it cost him 800E. This time he's left it cold. We used to leave one window upstairs very slightly open (with the shutters shut). Bowls with salt in them on the floor in each room. Everything that needed to be was washed and thoroughly dried, and stored away in vacuum packs (cushions, pillows, bedding etc etc) and nothing damp was left behind in the house e.g cleaning cloths, damp bath mats etc etc. You probably do all this already. I used to hate those so called holidays.[6][:)]
why? [8-)]
Because of Scarlett O'Hara? Or maybe Scarlett Johansson?[:)] Remember, it's the Wooly One. He thinks in not so mysterious ways, methinks.[;-)]

 7. Hi Mike.[:)]
... In our case we have left the UK and have spent the best part of the last year finishing putting our new business together.
If  you (one of you)  stopped working full time in the UK the best part of a year ago you should still (as a couple) be entitled to approx. 12/18 months of cover on the E106, depending on what contributions you,  or your partner had made up to the point you...stopped. What has your French Accountant had to say about the changed situation (re health) for immigrants from the UK? I have no idea what effect being/having a SARL has.  I hope it covers you.
 8.
...She recently joined me - as a friend, you understand - on Facebook
Why on earth would you and Mdme Bay enter a Whole New World of (potential) ) Horror? Are we not horrid enough for the likes of youse?
 9.
Ah! That's why my hope jar is overflowing. [6]
Awwww.[6] I love the devil icon. If someone was to say 'It's the 'cheeky devil icon or Madame Bay, make your choice!' I would be hard pressed...[6]

 12.
Aww Tresco......we all love SB [:)]
Ah, but that gets us into the 'old who is this we all you speak of?'.  Madame Bay would be the first to point this out. [:D]
 13.
It seems the Police are a bit short on information as to who fired the shots at them during the last riots in Paris . They are now authorised to pay "A few Thousand Euros " to anonymous informers who write or phone in  and tip them off who shot at them...
Frederick, can you say where you read this? I have a special interest. No problem if it's in French. I can read French better than I can Google in it[:$] No one has ever come round out of the blue and checked me out, BTW.[:)]
 14. Oh! I forgot to join in the SB love-fest! Love her. Gawjuss Gal. [kiss]
 15.
Who were you before ?
And are you an orphaned P ossum?  I think we should be told[:(][:)]
 16.
I also renewed my passport in November without having the photo countersigned.
Which is why I suggested the rules may have changed recently...though it's hard to imagine why the conditions to confirms ones ID should have become less irksome. My 'confirmer' had to sign the pics and add his DOB, address, profession and current passport details into a section of the application form. If that was 'wrong' the application would have been returned, surely? I have just checked and I applied for mine in August. Doesn't time fly? Edited to add; I just asked the OH and he reminded me that I rang the Embassy with a couple of questions and this was one of them - by telephone it was confirmed I needed the counter sig etc.

 18. Go on Chipie, be Chirpy...it suits you![:)]
 19.
I can never understand why people risk having their passport applications rejected by using photo booths.
In my case it was something to do with the booth being plastered with official looking 'recommended for passports/DLs etc etc' signs.[;-)]  I will probably follow your advice next time.
You don't need your passport photo's counter signing for an adult passport renewal, only for children under 16.
I definitely had to have mine countersigned, just a few weeks ago. I think Cathy and others really need to plough through the forms for themselves, as what you say suggests the rules may have changed recently. BTW there was some conflicting advice given on one pile of bumf and another, about the photo requirements. I phoned the Embassy up and explained it but they didn't seem particularly interested. Something to do with the background colour, if I remember correctly.
 20.
Do the British Embassy in Paris have a website (I can't find it)? Is there a downloadable form?
The website is here http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenMarket/Xcelerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1059132495834 I got a new passport them recently via downlaodable forms, but I have no children. However I'm sure all the options are there for you. I had my application for renewal denied for the first time on a technicality (to do with the photo) so be careful. I still can't say I agree with them for denying me (at the gate, as it were) but I complied with their bizarre/anal requirements and it was sorted out ver quickly.[:)]

 22.
So sorry I can't be on the same page as you all today.
Sorry to hear about your cat...I can imagine your distress.[:(] Did you already know about your cat before you typed out your first post in the very early hours this morning?
 23.
Has anyone seen the glint in M. Pierre's eye whenever it alights on Miss Wooly?  Confidentially, I overheard M. Pierre on the phone booking a chalet in Chamonix.
He's not called Pierre XXX for nothing. Mother Tresco. MD. FRCS.
