1.
Oh Poppy, these are indeed worrying times for you and your OH. I'll keep my fingers crossed that somehow things will work out not too badly for you. [kiss]
Thank you Sweet for those sweet words. Just taking a break from packing to go the UK. Got no choice, on the positive side it is nice being in UK in the winter.
2. I do mean Kaupthing Isle of Man  but can't believe no response from 15th September from either the Bank or IOM Treasury to date. The Kaupthing website today does state the IOM have withdawn their banking facilities but it appears to be 3 weeks after they actually stopped trading. It is immoral that no one is responsible for this. We tried to be honest didn't open an account with a fictious UK address with a bank in the UK. Opened an offshore account 10 years ago with a merchant bank Singer & Friedlander agreed to pay tax in country of residence. received notification last year that bank taken over by Kaupthing  Iceland . Irony is that Kautphing customers got 7% interest and we still got S&F 4%. Please tell me now how to become a criminal;
3. Thanks Sweet; Usuallly we have been able to  be positive and say yes we have our health, but unfortunately not this year. OH has blocked arteries, blue foot etc. I have put CVs online for employment in UK but another mental battle do I go to UK while OH is battling with chronic illness.
4. Krusty, These things are happening so quickly.  If you have your fingers crossed and a feeling in your water please think about  security of your money. The truth is in the small print, is the depositors protection responsibily of UK or the Spanish authorities. I don't want to start any alarm bells but I certainly don't want any one else to go through what we are going through at the minute If you have any 'thoughts' please do a lot of research.
5. Many thanks for your kind word Krusty, they really mean a lot. Can't believe the situation we are in have watched it evolve or perhaps dissolve for the last couple of weeks without us being able to control it. We have tried everything even had a long discussions with the IOM treasury a couple of days ago, not sure whether we can do wrong for doing right   If we had used a 'pretend' UK address  would still be quids in. Don't know whether I am in for character building at near pension age but looks as though I have to go for it [:D] We managed to buy a couple of bottles of port and brandy on the card yesterday before they pulled the plug [:D]
6. Is the UK not the financial capital of the world? I totally believe that most people in their day to day business in the banking community have only a narrow view of what is happening and there are an elite few at the the top of the pile who control things. They will be creaming off the billions poured in now and we will see the same crisis occurring in a few months time.
7. Have been trying since the 15th September to contact Kaupthing IOM. Have received no response it is as though the bank has been not 'really'  been dealing since that date or before. Did leave a telephone message with the IOM Treasury on 18th Sept and several since which have not been replied to. Back to the port & brandy. Can I sue the IOM for liver damage.
8. A friend works for a very expensive car company, cats, in the UK. For a couple of years now she has been saying that she couldn't believe people were buying cars for £75,000 plus and adding it onto their mortgage debt with no problem at all. Six and two threes as to who is to blame. Fairytale economy comes to mind. I won't go into too much detail but have just lost our complete nestegg due to being too frugal and honest.  Would have been better off buying a new car and spending money on renovation of house and face (very lined in the last few days) instead of living in a caravan and paying all taxes etc. What does that say for the state of the world. Have set up the intravenous port & brandy drip It is getting very Icelandic in the caravan these nights [:D]
9.
There is an awful lot of unjustified panic around at the moment. This loss of confidence is financial institutions in my opinion is completely daft. Ask yourself has any bank depositor lost a single penny? Even with Northern Rock when Brown/Darling dithered for weeks nobody lost anything and nobody is going to lose anything. French Financial institutions are completely sound.
The problem is if the Bank don't answer the phone and don't respond to email or fax is the panic unjustified [blink]
10. Just wondered whether if one does manage to transfer online, regardless of which UK bank, then if the terms and conditions actually say must be UK resident then does the depositor's compensation scheme apply? Or is it like a lot of insurance/assurance.
11. Hello Jan, our 'Christmas tree' is looking in the same state as your pine [:(] We haven't had a good summer but the last month has been very dry with cold nights and some very strong midday sun.We thought this combination might have caused a shock to the system after the tree has been used to moist and not as hot as usual conditions all year. Also is it just me or are all the leaves turning yellow about a month early ?
12. Lots of the vineyards in our area sell wine 'on tap' where you take your own empty bottle. It is marketed as having no additives and I think this is true as a friend reacts the same as you Rose to any bottled wine but has no reaction to the 'on tap'. Perhaps there are some vineyards in your area. Have a great party, it sounds like it will be a lot of fun [:D]
13. Knew you would appear Ron [:D] Not trying to hatch any wizzo schemes and not talking about not declaring anything.  After all with an E121 you don't pay social charges on the pension.  It was just a thought whether if you are unfortunate enough to be under the income level for CMU and have an E121can you get assistance with the topup. Have amended previous post incase it is gives the wrong idea.
14. I guess with an E121 you don't pay social charges on the pension so perhaps six and two threes.
15.  Many thanks for the clarification M. I realised that the E121 was not via the CMU which was why I asked the question.
16. Maricopa, I thought the CMU Complementaire was a free top up insurance. Is that another thing I have got wrong  [geek]
17. Just a thought- can you get CMU Complementaire with an E121?
18. What a difference the last couple of weeks have made, at this rate Debs will definitely be home for your birthday. Thinking of You Jan
19. Over the last couple of year have seen a lot of properties in the area bought by Belgians. They then seem to have done in a very short period of time a lot of renovation/improvement at what appears to be a lot of expense. Anyone know what is going on [blink]

Rash

Yes , Benjamin just itching to know where the rash is [:D] Seriously I thought the Forum health had improved over the last couple of weeks.
It seems Bugbear and Sunday Driver were also affected but let's all hope we have a Speedy recovery now.     [:P]
Best wishes to everyone affected. Hope the nasty spots disappear very quickly
21. We always buy Roche Mazet they do a Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot in Red and a Chardonnay & Sauvignon in White. The price varies between 2.20-2.50 and is available in Intermarche, Carrefour, Champion and Leclerc it might be in Auchan but we don't have one in our area. I am a very fussy drinker and find it tastes just as good as others right up to the 10 Euro mark. My favourite wine is Chateau St Andre Chateauneuf- du-Pape available Carrefour 11.50 Euros but only once a week, ho ho I wish [:D]

Rash

Yes , Benjamin just itching to know where the rash is [:D] Seriously I thought the Forum health had improved over the last couple of weeks.
23. I understand only a rumour  FIA=  Very good, really made me laugh and many a true word etc. It seems also that if the FIA don't get him McC will. Wouldn't blame him if he went off to America. Television picture still OK since ten this morning, haven't gone near ITV4 but will try it tomorrow and see if it messes up the other channels, how strange.
24. Yes, great race we saw all of it -picture still OK but haven't touched ITV4. Lovely smile reminded me of a young Michael S. Plenty of feedback pre race about relationship between F1 and that Italian car beginning with F [:D] OK he 'nudged' three cars, at that point I thought he was going to go through the whole field, sweet revenge for nobody supporting him last week.
25. I know we should have French tele but I couldn't live here without English television [:(]  I know very sad, but true. Still have a picture, watching race at the moment it's looking a bit damp!!!. Just wondered if Lewis is trying to see how many penalty points he can get in one race, he has already knocked three cars off the track [:D] Discovered something strange this morning when we put ITV4 on it was broken up, it then appeared to corrupt all the other channels which were fine until then. We had to unplug and all well on ITV1 now for 4hrs haven't dare try ITV4 again.
