1.
You know the crispy shredded duck which Chinese takeaways offer? Like an overcooked confit, you put it into little pancakes with plum sauce & green stuff? Ours now does crispy lamb as well - delicious!
Sounds suspiciously like a kebab for the middle classes Dick.  A sheep in lambs clothing. [;-)]
  2.
...if any of us does not completely endorse the French status quo then we should return whence we came.
Haven't heard them, but they sound like a covers band from hell.  I cannot endorse them, cannot imagine how truly awful they must be live (although they are the sort of act we get in our Salle des Halles, so presumably they'll be here soon), so I've booked my ferry ticket back to Blighty before Sarky's stormtrooopers come for me.
  3. Who forgot to look in the mirror before going to church that Sunday morning in 1972?
  4.
I don't want to start anything here, it's just a comment, seeking views.
Are you starting something Bugbear?  Are you?  Are you?  Want some do you?  Outside.  Now. [;-)]
  5. Brilliant, thanks all, should be fine then.  This is all predicated on the fact that the darned thing gets through the CT of course.  I thought Land Rovers were supposed to be reliable.....[:'(]
  6. Just seeking a bit of last minute reassurance before getting my carte grise.  When I visit my local prefecture and fill in a demande de certificate d'immatriculation, I will, in line with SD's excellent advice, dutifully take it to the counter and hand it over together with my certificat de conformite/attestation d'identite, quittus fiscal, proces-verbal de controle technique, V5C registration document, invoice/receipt, passport and a utility bill.  My slight concern is that the invoice/receipt won't show any VAT paid on the vehicle, as it was paid by a previous owner when imported into England from Germany.  However, I have no record of that transaction.  Will they mind?  Will they understand that as this is the second time the vehicle has been imported/exported between EU countries, it wasn't subject to VAT when we bought it?  Will they tell me to go away and never darken their door again?! I suspect I'll be ok, but confirmation from someone on here would be welcome. Thanks, Mark.
  7. If the picture is of a chimp, I saw some chimps eating a child chimp on Planet Earth the other day.  For the good of the youth of Surrey, I sincerely hope Dick doesn't eat children.
  8.
I am a philanthropist too.  Jonny Depp is homeless[:D]
I'm a kidnapper.  Emmanuelle Béart was comfortably homed until very recently.
  9.
I'd like a new car, and to be environment-friendly it would have to be a diesel.
...to be proper friendly it would have to be a hot air baloon or a glider or something like that. Dick, go on, go on, go on, go on, go on.  Get a hot air baloon for the commute. If money were no object, I'd buy Dick a baloon; and pickpocket Chris PP so that I can bully the multi-nationals too, although I suppose I wouldn't have to be rich to pickpocket Chris PP - just mean.  Oh, and I'd have Emmanuelle Béart as a maid and Johnny Depp as a drinking buddy when he's finished maiding for Katie, if she ever allows him some time off. And I'd imprison Roman Abromovic for a bit of a laugh (sorry Miki), thus enabling Hereford United to buy that Ukranian geezer on the cheap. and, and, and......

    Washing Machines

Great, thanks Phil.  I have favoritized those links. (mastered the French language, now trying American).[:)]
  14. I need a new washing machine.  Can anyone recommend a good cheap one please, or more generally the best electrical appliance outlet in France to go to to buy a good, cheap one?  It would need to be an 'A' graded one because I love the planet, man. Thank you all.
  15. Hereford, Herefordshire, England. My partner, The Squidgester: Surrey, Surreyshire, presumably England but don't know. Wish I'd never come here to La France Profonde.  It's like the bleedin' 50s.  No crime, no tracksuits, no ASBOs.  Wish I could go home but I underestimated how much it would cost me to renovate Cholet and now I'm irreversibly in hock.  The producers of 'A Place In The Sun' quoted me £20k, the Maire adjusted that figure to E870m.  I've tried to use local labour, I really have, but they won't work between 12 and 2, d'you know what I mean?  How I am supposed to get Cholet ready for paying guests when they won't work 12 to 2?
  16. That's what I meant!  I must have multiplex-itis Tony, demanding 10 or so movies in one building, although the cure is kicking in as we seem to only have a travelling DVD in the towns and villages around here (a disc not a player). [:)]
  17.
For all those people who just had nasty comments and unhelpful and sarcastic comments. Go boil your heads, cos I have done it.

well done, what are you doing for a job then??
Diplomat.
  18.
We are living here and own a house outright. However we need to raise about 100,000 pounds.  What is the simplest, quickest, cheapest way to do this?  We already have a french mortgage on another property here. Also can someone tell me what I have to do to get a notification email that I have received a reply here? Thanks!
Am I missing something here or is the answer 'drug dealing'?  If I am missing something, and someone knows how to raise 100k quickly and legitimately, could they PM me? Otherwise, Bluebee, have you tried selling drugs? [;-)]
  19. Oh gawd I'm still trying to get away with seeing how far a smile and a shrug will get me.  Subhistoric smile and past conjunctive shrug, natch [:)]
  20. A string quartet in that little cinema in Sarlat?  Magic.  Is that sort of thing a common occurrence throughout France?  I've never come across it before. And what a great film - so creeeeeeeepy....!
  21.
Mark ,I'm sorry if you read my post as a criticism ,it wasn't at all.It was a why does this attitude persist comment .
No problem at all littlemouse [:)]
But how do we get to either B or H from M even after a Fizzbuzz?  And I've had N with Bob Newhart so what's David Nixon doing here.  Have we switched again?  Where are we headed?  NURSE!
I was thinking outside the box after reading the meeting bingo thread thingy.
  23.
Ah, but if you read back you'll find that wine is related to wine sugar levels to chocolate to calories.  So not off topic. [:P]
Curses.  And double curses - wine shouldn't be fattening. What tastes nice but is good for you - anything?
