  1. I see all of the recommendations were lost during the server upgrade, so here is the first one! Acorn Dog Kennels in Buais are run by a qualified veterinary nurse. I took my dog there this year and he loved it, having previously experienced a French-owned kennels. Contact details are email:[email protected] or phone: 0233496322
  2. Hi Annabell Have you tried Acorn Kennels in Buais. I was very pleased with them and their rates seemed quite reasonable. Details are in the Post Links forum. Cheers Liz

    Walnuts

Yes! We discovered a huge tree in our orchard and the 'fruit' looked like avocado but sort of smelt limey. It was only when we caught the squirrels cracking them open later in the year that we realised it was a walnut tree. The bark is really smooth an it can be quite a few years before you get any walnuts. Now we have to rush to beat the squirrels before they get the walnuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts etc!!
  4. I have over 10 mature cherry trees (dark Morello, blush Napolean and sweet red dessert varieties) and don't know what to do with all the fruit. There is only so much jam you can make and I'm not sure about freezing them. I'm also (rather boringly) tee-total so cherry brandy etc. would be a waste of time. Any recipes / ideas would be most welcome. While you're at it...any ideas on what to do with the fruit of 55 apple trees (desert and cider)?????? The sheep graze in the orchard and I'm a bit concerned that they might become a bit tipsy if they eat 4 tonnes of apples. I did let a local farmer take them last year to a distillery, with the promise that I would get a cheque in December, but to date haven't seen a centime! C'est la vie!
  5. Just had to add to this thread... I had 2 of my home-reared lambs slaughtered last week and had a few chops at the weekend. Absolutely delicious and tastes nothing like the stuff you buy in the shops. Last year I felt very uncomfortable about the whole 'eating your own animals' idea but knowing that they have had 5 acres of untreated grass to munch on and had a good life, I've changed my attitude. It also helps that the abattoir is only 20 minutes away so I know they're not too stressed in their final moments. The other 3 lambs are being slaughtered at the end of August and will be sold on via the abattoir - the 2 in the frezer will last us for quite a while. Mint sauce anyone....?
  6. We've just come back from the UK and collected our dog from Acorn Kennels. He's had a whale of a time and although pleased to see us, was clearly quite at home there. I'll definitely be taking him there again and we know we can enjoy our trips away without having to worry yabout him. Just to clarify that the kennels are on the border of Manche(50), Mayenne (53) and Orne(61) and not far from Ile-et-Villaine(35) ... Sorry, spelling not good!
