  1. Pretty sure it is in September, but can't remember which week.

  3. The way you stated this is that if there are problems that were "covered up by the seller." I cannot see how this could be legal. If a seller "covers up a problem," technically, even an expert might not see the problem if it is sufficiently covered up - hidden. This would have to have been blatantly done and it is hard to believe that a clause such as this, could be held up in a court of law - even here. Perhaps I have misunderstood, but, I for one, would not sign a contract that had this clause in it. If it is removed and the seller will not sign, something is up - like a red flag and the seller KNOWS what it is. Ask him Just a thought.
  4. Belinda So very sorry for your loss. We lost a Sheltie to leukemia a few years back and it took me quite some time before I could even look at his pictures without crying. Thank you so much for sharing this information. I'm sure most of us would never have thought of such a thing.
  5. You gotta laugh huh.. I've seen this before - along with the signs stating open 7/7 days of the week, come to find Sunday must not be a day of the week...
  6. After reading how awful the autoroute has been the last few days, I am not sure whether to give it a try or not. I have to drive down to Nice to pick up my daughter from the airport. Anyone have any suggestions as to whether I should try the autoroute or take a smaller road?? Last month while on my way to the Marseille airport, got stuck near Cavaillon for two hours due to a bad accident. Frustrating as there is no way to exit the autoroute, you have to just sit there until all is cleaned up and traffic can move again. Suggestions? Thanks.
  7. The Dijon mustard and the Espresso coffee from LIDL. I think the jar of Dijon (and its a good sized one) is .33 and the coffee is .99. Just can't beat it. Also the LIDL sparkeling water is great too - .25 for a litre and a half bottle. Can't leave out Leader Price either. You can really find lots of good quality products in both Leader Price and LIDL. Other than that, certainly the wine. Being American, it is FAR cheaper than the California wines we bought when we lived there. And a good baguette - which we never actually found in CA - at any price.

    Smear Tests?

And just FYI, the frottis tests only for cervical cancer. Bacterial cells may show, but, in other words, it is not a culture. If you want a culture test to include testing for bacteria and/or STD's, you need to mention this to the doctor at the time of the pap smear (frottis). He or she will gladly take the swab at the same time as the cells are taken for the frottis. However, don't assume that this is done without asking.
  9. Is it not possible for you to continue with your business profits going to a UK bank account and therefore no income coming to you in France? I know other people who do this. I don't really know all the details, but they got fed up with the taxes and cotisations here in France and closed down their business here, moved the operation to UK. While they live and do most of the work here. Just a thought. We are living in Provence (Americans not Brits) and I find France more expensive than the U.S. in MANY ways. However, my husband is currently working in Glasgow and on a few recent visits there, I was SHOCKED by what you folks in the UK pay for things (particularly food and wine). I thought it was bad here. Some things here are not expensive (by my thinking), others are beyond comprehension. We still love it here, but I do not find it inexpensive.
  10. Being American myself and having just seen Farenheit 911 yesterday, I couldn't be MORE embarrassed to say where I'm from ! Your story doesn't really surprise me. I have lost almost all faith in my "fellow" Americans. The upcoming election will determine if I have lost ALL faith. Anyway, I would always ask for a deposit up front. No matter where they stay, they will have to reserve it with some money (or credit card). If they can't afford the exchange rate or the price to get a euro draft check or bank transfer made, they probably shouldn't be coming. Our first American renters are coming for two weeks in October. They did pay the 30% due to confirm the booking. We'll see how the rest goes. I'm must admit they are the only booking that we have had from Americans. Most are from other parts of the world. Good luck to you.
