1. Sorry to ask but what exactly do these creatures do that is so unacceptable and is the destruction to a river bank any worse than Noddy boats with their wake, is it not possable to trap them both and relocate them down stream?? I'm a sucker for a nice photo!!   Lilly "Live and let live wasn't just a movie"[:P]
2. I don't know what you are interpreting from my post, and I certainly did not feel that I was expressing my opinion or sense of logic mearly asking a question based on a statement that I had read from your post. "To prevent any problems make it clear that you have permanently relocated to France" No one likes having to pay Taxes especially IHT as the whole subject is usually about your own death one day or the fact you have lost someone. The only  logic that I feal I have stressed is to seak very professional advice and when making  the preparations to move to France with elderly parents consider the inheritance tax implications and make any appropriate arrangements. But as always these sort of things are not at the forefront and perhaps rightly so, but if I have managed to highlight the fact that it is unfortunatly worth considering, then all the better , forewarned is forearmed I don't see how it warrants a comment like one should move to another country without IH tax or maybe that was'nt the implication. [B] go have one
3. Thank you for your responce ecopower, it was indeed a great saving but bloody ard work and no one should take it on lightly. With regards my statement re my friends installation was only in response to your statement and I just wanted to reassure you that it was carried out with all the best intentions thats all. Marc if you know more about capture from a water source and or regs please feel free to PM.
4. I have a question, when someone has just recommeded that you should make it clear that you have moved permanently to France and this also implies that this is preferencial, I must ask that since it would appear that French IHT allowances thresholds are significantly lower than the UK's therefore you will start to pay upwards of 20% above a base allowance of something like 49,000 euro after 15,000 euro and then this climbs depending on your relationship to the deceased and his or her permanent residency and how long they have lived in France, How does it benefit to "make it clear that you have permanently relocated to France"? Don't forget that the estate pay IHT over a certain threshold , sorry a little out of touch but ie: £300,000 ish on the UK assets Although I have asked questions myself in this forum on these issues it really can't be stressed enough that you must speak to an expert in both countries legalities and even then then ask more questions as I recently found out that a vital bit of information was never asked for ( how long has the donner / recipient lived in France) by an "expert" but after further investigation on my part to HMTO found this to be extremly relevant as of yet I do not know the outcome but it has given me grounds to put forward. It didn't occur to the "expert" to ask as his usual clientel were only ever in France. The benefit as I understand it that under 3 years residency in France the French tax office MAY deem the donner as non Resident. I appreciate this may not affect many people out there but its worth knowing. As always take professional advice. And final note to any of you with elderly parents that are here in France with you take advice sooner rather than later!!!!!
5. Hi there, No its all new, there were no other buildings with this tiny little house, its a bit like a tardis really as what you can't see it has lower levels as its kind of on a rock face. It has been a labour of love and we are still at the internal stuff. OH has done 98% of the work except for when you have to have a hand full of brauny fellas about ( not a problem really!!!) to lift and shove stuff I can't help with. At the moment I had no kitchen for 2 years and no kitchen sink or a single worktop at all for 8 weeks so all these lovely pictures of beautiful ones all so clean and bright ( I have a toad living under a plastic bag that contains my pasta store and whilst I attempt to keep things hygenic it has to be asked how dirty is a toad really?)Make me want to runto Ikea and buy one instead of the long awaited oak and walnut one. OH won't hear of it. but it was going to be restarted today but he has the erge to do some wood turning, he's come over all Arty! I've come over all techy strangely. 6. Hi Ecopower, My friends installation was carried out by a very reputble electrician heating engineer and knowing these friends no cost cutting would have been applied to the materials, now allowing for the fact that mistakes can ad do happen may be this was the case but than that would have to be true to all installations no matter by whom they are laid. When we did the research (very extensive it was too!) and not entirely by me, I flick the switches and make tea !!! ( proberbly not doing myself justice really but you get my point) Comparing Devis for good quality oil / gas systems and if you factor in the reimborsement of 50% on the specific material and labour costs of geothermal linear method it was very much in favour of going Geo as it came out the same for gas, or oil but with this option being cheaper to run after! On top of this we did all the donkey work , dug out the area for the capture and re filling after, posing of all the radiators and we laid the underfloor pipework and insolation with a scematic of course and the patron came and checked that we had indeed installed properly no kinks etc and quite a few other things, we had them do the important stuff involving electricity and anything we felt that a true professional should thus also preserving our guarentee. Incidently would your friends problems have been covered by the extensive Guarentee for premature wear and tear and I fail to see what they have neglected to do that is specific to a geothermal installation and would the same neglect have caused problems for any other system including Electric. I would be intersted to know how effective these evacuated tube panels work as don't they work on UV so it is not so necessary  for it to be sunny. My opinion so far is in an ideal world and to an extent money as side if you can fork it out up front, a dual solar plus geo is worth considering. We have a River with good continuas flow and I would like to harness this really but I'm not sure how the Architec de Batiment de France or whom ever would feel about that!!. Not really changing the subject by the font has changed and I don't mean to shout or stand out, but I'm not quite sure how to change it back?
7. I'll try to join in! 2005-2007       Hope it works!!
8. Lilly

Lady Gynecologue

Thank you Nell. Lilly
9. We have geothermal underfloor heating downstairs and via radiators on the 2nd floor as we also have wooden floors, if we could turn back time it wood have been better to have had concrete floors and underfloor heating upstairs also ( I would have liked a stone floor!!). You can nowadays have underfloor with a floating wooden floor with special parket ( kiln dried drier!) On the matter of Electric underfloor, our friends have this on a much much smaller scale, a relatively new installation and they had to turn if off half way through winter and resort to a parafin heater as the electric bills were so high. Lilly
10. Can any body recommend thier Gynecologue in the areas of Gourdon, Sarlat or immediate areas, I had an appointment with a Guy in Sarlat only my nieghbour has told me about her own experiances with him and I cannot now got to him. The other was a recommendation for a Dr Lamoureux but she is busy until 26th June and I need an urgent appointment. Can anyone help please, as always with you guys thank you for any help recieved. Lilly
11. Danish oil is your best bet, but I admit I have foung it difficult to find here, I have found it in a small bottle (no good for a floor!), if anyone knows how to find this in greater quantities I would be very greatfull. Incidently when the Danish oil is very dry you can indeed buff to a  shine, recommend buffing mop in the drill or similar attachment. Also if you can track it down a Hard wax oil is very hard wearing. cheers Lilly
12. Can a sage help me wth this query. On moneys (No property in France or UK!) held in the UK by someone that lived in France for 3 years these funds then  inherited by a French resident living here for 4.5 years, what taxes are liable and payable? Forgetting UK inheritance thats dealt with with no IHT to pay. Thankyou in advance for any light in this area, I appreciate that professional help may be needed but its good to be forarmed.
13. We have a large spa and would not be without it, we did do a lot of research here in France and in the uk and it can be a mine field of quality issues. if you woul like to know more please feel free to e-mail or PM and I wil tell you wha we did.   Lilly
14. Is it something in the water here in the Dordogne?  As you beat me to writing on here ( I was a bit shy!) I think I am technicaly too young for the menopause but if it is PMT and afterwards (Post MT?) I think I am going mad but I have got sore eyes from the amount of crying and I am in a no tolerance zone for my family of men.Yesterday I lost an hour sittng in the cafe in Leclerc fiddling with the foam on my cafe au lait where I was alone and feeling very sorry for myself and I never go for coffee alone but I didn't want to go home so there we are, may be I'm not alone anymore.   XXX
15. Not that we are complete crack pots but We did decide to move and pack and go in 4 weeks and forgot nothing  ( well give or take some non important items!!) I sent my resignation back in the post ( I was off sick for 2 months)  there were obviously some things that made it a bit easier and we had already got the dogs sorted with jabs etc it was only the pet rats certificates from defra that were problematic. So it can be done, we are still here Hubby working, Chambre d'hote nearly there. Kids bi lingual, Not all roses I can assure you and I am much greyer ( blond now don't tell!) What you have forgotten can be retrieved or sent for or left behind so good luck you'll have a great tale to tell one day and you will have lived your dream.   Lilly
16. Hi, Have you tried the Office de tourisme in Carcassone they may be able to link you with a local vinyard and help with locating hairdressers, local Markets etc. What about looking at a Farm auberge for a meal after? I saw a beautiful  wedding very earthy with the only decoration being bunches of ears of wheat/corn and Vine leaves, bridesmaids carring corn dollys I think it is likely to be very hot in August in that area and or rainy, what about a white linen Mod suit ( if it exists!) Outside of the Walls of the city is usually a large Carousel, of course you may already have tried or know of these suggestions but its a start.   Lilly
17. Hi folks, not having much luck with finding a finished photo of the bowl, we have still got it so I will take a new photo and post it. It was a big walnut tree that had to come down as it was in the way of the new fosse ad as we don't like to do tha sort of thing to trees it seemed rather nice to make something to keep out of it, I'm looking forward to the 10 seater dining table at about 30-4-cm thickness but its not stable yet. Its the other half who's the real turner me as I said previously I'm just Dangerous I would'nt like to try anything on this scale.I usually like to hack at stuff with an arbortech and burn it with a blow torch and other lethal efforts! However trying to answer your queries and OH is shy, Its Wadkin RS80 looong bed with a varialble speed added , it is actually glued to the floor cos of underfloor heating! The piece of wood was actually bigger than that at on set as the band saw was'nt big enough, chainsawd to start with and took my son and OH and me to get it on the lathe and several attempts later after messing about with gravity started Waddy up with me and offspring other side of work shop. All was tranquille! The piece was semi green cut down 2 years previously to being roughed out then left under shavings and then paper sack for a year. This photo was the roughing out stage. We have a VB36 ( didn.t have it then!) also a small axminster and later this summer hopefully a Wivamac, why so many? The Wadkin with its long bed is good for newel posts an columns and roughing out largish bits, VB for the bigger stuff  and for general more accurate turning and wivamac for expos as its the smaller one and therefore more portable and the axminster was too small for the job really. I will get the technical stuff about the grind etc from OH later when he comes in, promise. bye for now
18. Well I've attempted to put in a photograph as per instructions so I hope this works!! It is a walnut natural edged bowl I'll try and put the finished article on next. Its a bit fubar (upside down!) sorry will do better next time.[blink]
19. As per usual there are a number of different factors in this answer but I'll try. If you were to replace the upstairs flooring you can lay your plasterboard first then battens then insulation and finally floorboards fixed to the battens (easy way if changing flooring!) If not attach small battens to each side of main beams push in the paperbacked rockwool cut to tight fit and screw the cut sheets of plasterboard to the battens or if you can screw the cut sheets directly to the higher beams all depends on beam direction really and not seeing the ceiling I can only suggest these methods.. also if you use decorators cualk along the edges (assuming that you have plastered up and sanded down first) to give a neat and resonably flexible finish. Alot of work upside down and fiddley but indeed possible. If you are replacing entire floor think about a block and beam system perhaps a better sound proofing method. hope this helps. p.s when using rock wool wear protective clothing and eyewear! very painfull if you don't
20. Well I'm obviously having one of those nights when a girl should know when to shut up and sit on her hands!! After I wrote the question and reflected a little I did indeed come to the conclusion that one could only edit ones post but I had already commited myself out in the open airways, talking of which I'm not so sure how I feel about everyone seening my PM button (its made me rearrange my dressing gown!) Thank you fo your help everyone.
21. I have noticed on my last couple of posts that an edit and delete box appear and stay and nobody else has these why's this also no PM box appears, maybe no one wants to know me I think I'll go and eat worms!
22. I unfortunatley have lowered myself to fizz off some latin perrier and have replied to let him know what I think and probably not very eliquently (god I hope I spelt that right!) I did this deed before reading your responses so thankfully I don't feel quite so daft as I think most of you have the same opinion, I think my OH has a name for that type, Numbsack I think its a blend of numpty and **** sack and that about sums him up. P.S I do dye my hair blond and on occasion when the white sock marks are too striking against the rest of me legs reach for the st.tropez only cause they don't look so good with the white stiletos!
23. You know they say a litte knowledge is dangerous, well this very subject was discussed on our chambre de metiers course so for what its worth here goes... If he has a UK  Limited Company stress the Limited company!! and he is not here more than three months ( I think) he is able  to work here ( don't know about the 20 Polish workers though!!) HOWEVER ( there's always a but aye!) He must have Both Assurance civil professional to cover public liability and Decinnale to cover his work it is illegal to work with out this and as you can't get this cover in the UK for here in France and you must have a registered business here to buy it here, we have a catch 22. If in the future you wanted to sell your property  here you will need the decinnale certificate to cover the work carried out or risk losing the sale and don't forget you will need factures from a registered artisan for these works or they are not claimable against capital gains tax on your property so alot of money could be lost. My advice would be get a few more devis and choose based on the fairest price and reputation and save yourself a lot of heart ache as if something went wrong as it soooo often does you would not have a leg to stand on when this fellow is back in blighty. Good luck you know what to do really trust your instincts.
24. Now they say a little knowledge is dangerous but for what its worth we picked this up on our chambre de metiers course so not a lot of credance there!! my understanding is that if said builder has a UK registered Limited company stress Limited company it is possible for him to work here in France legally HOWEVER he must have Decinale insurance to his work here and assurace civil professional as it is illegal to work without it and any work he does for you is not covered. should you wish to sell at a later date within ten years you will need to provide proof of this cover to the Notaire or risk losing the sale, now there was a builder on our course who was convinced his public liability cover was indeed a Decinnale he was later proved wrong , I don't know if you risk being thrown out of France sounds a bit extreme to me , but in any case non of the above reasons seem good enough to me to choose this builder if anything went wrong as they sooo often do here you would not have a leg to stand on.  My advice would be get a few more devis and choose the best based on a fair price and reputation. Best of luck
25. Both of us are wood turners other half is the pro I'm just dangerous!!
