1. Great news!  Spok, now called Bertie, went off to his new home a couple of days ago.... here he is with his new lady friend.... Many, many thanks to his new owners who travelled so far to collect him from the Refuge! Good luck! Jouals
2. This little chap is Bouly, a Shih Tzu - he is 3 years old (DOB 14/8/2008), vaccinated and micro chipped (250269500456609) - quite simply - if you are looking for a little dog like this - ring the Refuge direct for more information (and to reserve him.  You will need to send a deposit cheque for this.)  He needs a good wash and a happy home! 3. Wonderful news Martlin!  I am so pleased you decided it was going to be possible to keep Brian after all!  Jouals
4. This is Spok, an intelligent little Griffon X, about 2 years old, micro chipped (250 269 500 4494 35) and vaccinated.  Spok is an adorable little dog, sociable and friendly.  But he is a bit of an escape artist and knows how to open doors!  He has been adopted once - but sadly he was quickly returned as the people decided they were unable to keep him as they found their circumstances did not allow.  They were very upset to have to return him but felt they could not put in the time he needs to train and settle him.  They did say that he was quick to learn and was very well behaved indoors, just wanted to run off and explore once outside!  So Spok needs a family prepared to put time and effort into settling him and making life so interesting at home, he will no longer feel the need to run off (probably how he ended up in a Refuge in the first place)!   If you think you could offer Spok a home and can give him the TLC and care he needs to settle him, you will find, given a bit of time, he will make a super little dog who will make a great companion.  A secure garden will be a must!  Please get in touch if you need any further information.  Spok is fine with other dogs, cats and loves children.  Travel arrangements could be made.  But we would love to be sure that Spok finds a forever home this time!! 5. Kenzo enjoying a few brief hours away from the Refuge this weekend at a fund raising event...  A very happy dog to be shown so much attention for such a short time!!  Thanks to all the Refuge volunteers and staff who have worked so hard to socialise Kenzo and to bring a little happiness into his life whenever possible.
6. Another URGENT call for a foster home (or a forever home!!!), this time for Felix. Felix is currently in the Refuge in Cahors but is finding life there increasingly stressful. He was found abandoned in July and arrived quite a happy chappy, but as time is going on, staff and volunteers have noticed he is becoming more nervous and anxious. Life is very difficult for him now - ever since he was adopted not long ago and very quickly returned because there was a cat in the family who took a dislike to him. Since then he has found Refuge life hard to support and everyone would like to see him get out and away to a new home as soon as possible, whether to a foster home or a permanent home, where he can get the one to one attention which he so needs. He loves to play and gets on well with his box companion, Garou (see photos). He is sociable and loves people. This young dog deserves the chance to find a happy home quickly - please!!! . Felix is a Braque cross, about 2 years old, micro chipped (250 269500454 748) and vaccinated. This dog would make a wonderful family dog, all he needs is some patience, TLC, the usual training and to find his place in a loving home. No cats please - unless you are happy to introduce them carefully - we don’t want to risk poor Felix being returned to the Refuge a 2nd time! Please get in touch if you could either offer Felix a foster home or, even better, a permanent home! Transport can be arranged.   THANK YOU!! 7. Good Luck this weekend with the open days!  I hope anyone thinking of getting a dog or cat in the area comes along - I know there are lots of deserving animals just waiting to find a loving new home!!! Jouals
8. This is Kenzo - a Husky x - who has now been at the Refuge in Cahors since 2008!!!  This really is no life for a dog like this (or any dog for that matter!).  Kenzo is amongst our long-termers, his life is very restricted - it really is like a prison sentence for him.  Yet he has made incredible progress thanks to the attention of volunteers who have spent time with him when possible.  One in particular takes Kenzo out running in the woods whenever he can - he can safely let him off the lead and he always comes back to him.  In the end though, nothing can compensate for a real home and Kenzo urgently needs to find one now with an owner who is active and sporty and who can give this dog a true life.  A dog like Kenzo needs plenty of activity and to feel a special bond with his owner(s) to make him the happy dog he deserves to be.  He needs space and freedom (not a dog to live in a flat)!  Imagine life spent hour after hour, day after day, in a small cage - waiting for his next turn to have a run in the Refuge yard or, better still, a run with his favourite volunteer.  Kenzo is vaccinated, castrated and micro chipped and is now about 6 years old.  He would be best in a home with no small children with owners who can devote plenty of time to him.  He would also be happy with another female dog for company (see below!).  He is calm, affectionate and sociable.  Yet we have noticed that he is beginning to lose heart and get a bit depressed - the one relief from this has been his recent friendship with Lisa, another female dog and also a Refuge long-termer.  These 2 have struck up a close partnership with Lisa ruling the roost as far as Kenzo is concerned - not that he minds - he loves her company!  It has even crossed our minds to find these 2 a home together - what a wonderful result that would be for them!! If you would like further information on special adoption arrangements for Kenzo and think you could offer him the sort of home and life style he desperately needs, please get in touch.  We can also arrange transport.  Kenzo (and Lisa) can also be found on the Refuge Canin Lotois website…. http://refugecaninlotois.wordpress.com/ Jouals REFUGE CANIN LOTOIS Z.I. 9. Wonderful news today, Leo has gone off to a new home!!!!!!!  Many thanks to everyone who helped to get Leo out of his desperate situation, especially his new owners who fell in love with him as soon as they met him.  Apparently he is settling in well, already making himself comfortable on his new owners laps!!!  He is one happy dog and the center of attention in his new home as the only dog!!! Here are some photos of him setting off today - what a grin! 10. Yes, come on someone - what a chance - a beautiful cat (neutered) delivered to your door!!  There must be someone out there who could offer this lovely cat a home??  Linda is making every effort to find Brian a home - there must be one somewhere for him!! Jouals
11. Great news - Lester went off earlier today to his new home - where he will have 2 other Rough Collies for company.  Good luck to Lester and many, many thanks to all those who helped Lester, especially his new family.  Here are some photos of his departure.... 12. Oh dear - I knew that would happen if you looked at Leboncoin Merlin - it's a nightmare!!  But sometimes needy dogs are also successfully re-homed on there, small mercies!  It is such a popular and well known site, have to make it work for the needy dogs too! Keep on trucking! Jouals

14. Can anyone offer a home to Leo??  This really is a life and death situation for little Leo. Unfortunately another larger dog in the household has taken a dislike to Leo and has now attacked him twice, leaving Leo with serious injuries.  He is recovering after veterinary attention - but must be found a new home urgently, even if it is a foster home in the interim.  Leo is a Jack Rusell cross and is about 7.  He is micro chipped (250 269 201 031 594) and vaccinated. His owner is very upset that things have come to this, but she accepts that Leo must be found a new home urgently, the situation is impossible between the 2 dogs and is a tragedy waiting to happen.  She will pay for any veterinary treatment he may need for his injuries and arrange transport if need be. If you could offer Leo a foster or permanent home with you, please get in touch, thanks. Here are some photos of Leo, before his attack and after - he needs lots of TLC to get him over this!!  Leo would be best suited now to a quiet, calm home with no other dogs and no small children. He is ok with cats with the usual careful introduction. 15. This is Lester, an elderly collie, found abandoned and now in the Refuge in Cahors. Poor Lester arrived in a bad state, exhausted and upset. This beautiful dog is about 10 years old, he has a bit of rheumatism, but already with treatment, he is much improved. Hard to believe isn’t it that someone has abandoned poor Lester??! Otherwise the vet says he is in good health with a good heart. All he needs now URGENTLY is a calm home where he can potter around and enjoy life quietly. He is sociable and not at all aggressive. Very soft with people - he deserves a happy retirement!! Life in a Refuge is not for Lester!! If you could offer Lester a happy home with you - please get in touch.  Lester will be micro chipped and vaccinated. We can organise transport if need be.     Jouals REFUGE CANIN LOTOIS Z.I. 16. Just to let everyone know, Saphir has now been adopted by experienced Chow Chow people and has settled in very well in his new home where he is the only dog - so get's all the attention!!  Good news for this lovely dog so cruelly dumped! Jouals
17. I hope someone comes forward for Brian soon - such a beautiful cat with the bonus that he is already castrated, is free to a good home and could be delivered to your door locally!! Jouals
18. Some excellent news - Zeus' foster mum has decided she has become too fond of him, can't part with him and has decided to adopt him herself!  Lucky lad.  He is now called Ghost by the way!  Happy ending! Jouals
19. What a handsome cat Linda.  Unfortunately we recently took in a male stray ourselves or I would have him!!  But I have passed this post on to someone I know who has cat contacts and might know of someone for him - we are in Cahors, so not far from you.  Have you tried posting a notice on the vet's notice board in Castelnau Montratier?  She might know someone for him? Is he vaccinated by the way? Good luck! Jouals
20. Yes, you will be able to return to the UK with a rescued dog from France, as long as you have complied with the rules and regs for a pet passport for entry to the UK (from January 2012 - a reduced wait time at last, as you say).  Once you have adopted your dog from a Refuge, you will need to go straight to a vet to have a rabies jab and start the paperwork for the UK - any vet should be able to explain what you will need to do.  If you have given your main residence (UK) to the Refuge when you adopt, the SCC registration document will be sent to this address in due course.  As to notifying your ferry company - I can't answer that one, but normally, if all the paperwork is in order for the dog, there should be no problem - although you may have to pay an additional charge for an extra dog!  Best to check with your ferry company to find out in advance, just in case. 21. Have a look at this site - there are lots of questions and answers on various dog problems.... http://www.canis.no/rugaas/questions.php It certainly sounds like a fear and anxiety problem - good luck with solving it! Jouals
22. [:D][:D][:D]Fantastic news for Rouky! He has now been adopted and has gone off to enjoy life in the countryside of the Limousin. So far so good, he has behaved impeccably!  His new owners say he is a sweety and they are so pleased to welcome him into their family.  Many, many thanks to them for coming so far to get Rouky - he is a very lucky old boy! We look forward to more news on how he is settling in and perhaps some photos soon! Jouals
23. Let's have some good news - here is an update on how well Alie and Baba are doing in their new home….  Their new “mum” has sent us the following news on the happy pair!  Nicknamed "Tap Dancer and Gymnast" - read on…. “Alie & Baba have settled and are both so very loving!  Their foster mum pointed out to me Alie's “tap dancing“, particularly when she gets impatient or is kept waiting for dinner!  Baba is such a little acrobat, he could be in the circus  - when out on walks, he loves running up/down banks of grass and jumping over bushes. Indoors, under my supervision, they are allowed short times on a clic-clac in our office - they love jumping up & down and over each other.  Their early morning routine is like clockwork and they let us know if I'm late (or forget their chew!).  We just cannot understand how these two were overlooked or not of interest to other adopters - they are active for their ages.  Alie does like her frequent naps but is ready to go out anytime. Baba's deformed front leg rarely causes him to limp - unless he falls down one of the grass banks he runs up, then he holds his leg up all the way home.  (Our Vet has examined him and confirms he has had a fracture in the past that was not treated.  The leg is strong enough and the injury could be several years old.  Surgery to break it and reset the leg may or may not be of use, but in the meantime he is fine.   Both dogs have excellent appetites and have put on a bit of weight.  Need to watch Alie, especially as she's spayed and we don’t want her to lose her figure! As with most rescue dogs, one rarely knows their history, but they say dogs have no yesterday or tomorrow - just live for TODAY, so we aim to make their lives as happy and healthy as possible.  The rewards we get from them are endless and we have never regretted welcoming these two into our family.” Many, many thanks to Alie and Baba’s new family for adopting them and taking such good care of them - what a happy ending for these two!! Here they are at home…..  What a life!!  Just goes to show what joy even older dogs can bring into your life!
