  1. I have left my 10 year old Optima  sealed system on low setting for the last two winters, approx early November to mid February and fortunately, have not experianced pressure/water lose.  I did confirm with the Heating engineer that this was ok and I did have the boiler serviced.  The safety cut outs for pressure lose or running out of oil is a question I need to clarify at my next service .     Mike
  2. PGirl Don't be put off by such a responce.  I suspect, many of us would be more proactive on this great site were it not for such (occassional) unnecassary attacks. Mike

  4. QUESTION?  Two Cats, one named One Two Three and the other un deux trois argued who was the best swimmer and decided to settle the issue by racing across the local river. Who won and why,  answers by 5pm GMT,  or I will reveil  this mind crunching problem.. Mike

  7. I am off to Deux sevres next week for a few weeks, will I be able to watch the Tour de france on my French telly, which only receives programmes via standard ariel.  If not, I will need to take to the local roads on my bike, not a pretty sight.
  8. Unfortunately, my local dechetterie (Sauze vaussais 79) said they would not be able to accept asbestos sheets and the manager could not advise of a licensed company to contact. In my case, I will find a company via the internet, unless someone can advise safe dispossal in 79. Mike

  15. We are signing for our maison secondaire in Coudre, Clussais La Pommeraie, on the 28 October and moving in that evening. We will need B&B on the 27th. Is there a member in the area with a vacancy for two, and is there anyone who actually lives in Coudre or nearby who could spare us a little time between the 29 Oct and 6 November to share some local knowledge. Regards Mike and Linda
  16. Can members tell me if it is ok to use UK type shampoo, soap, shower gells, toothpaste without upsetting the Fosse. Sorry if its a stupid question, but if you dont ask ..... Mike
  17. Thank you for your views which make sense. Friends who own a holiday Home in France told us of this myth, perhaps they were misinformed in the local bar. Regards Mike
  18. What we are being told is there are rules which could prevent us from returning the money to the UK, though there is no problem in buying another property in France - or is this also urban myth ? Mike/Linda
  19. We are in process of buying a house in France. We have been told that if we needed to sell at a future date it is difficult to transfer the funds from our French account back to our UK bank account (we find that hard to believe). Can anyone please advise. Mike/Linda
  20. Thank you for your replys. Initial reaction from immobilier was that this is common in older properties (circa 1900) which have been extended over the years. I will need to get clarification and a health check carried out before signing compromis. I have sent E-mail to immobilier and await a responce. Thanks Mike
  21. Compromis will be signed by vendor on 23/7 then on to us in the UK. The Inspection report will show "several asbestos panels around some doors and windows". Did not see them on our visits, probably under plaster/wallpaper? Should we be concerned, should panels be removed or left if sound. Should we ask vendor to remove panels, I suspect they would not be happy to fund this as they have already reduced the price of the property to match the offer we can afford. Grateful for views of those who have encountered similar issues. Regards Mike
