  1. Can`t a french notaire do this for you?
  2. firstly to say you have my every sympathy and empathy on fear of dentists(mrs O here...)secondly without sounding superior , surely Dentists are educated people and I would have thought that like Doctors have had more than a basic grounding in English and most would speak enough English to overcome your problems and fears! Do you have any frieinds ,French or otherwise to either accompany you to a dentist OR ask for guidance? sorry I cant help you further but please don`t leave it too long....when Mr O sees this he will quote kettle and pot! on both the language and teeth front!!
  3. I dont know if F1 chain have one in Paris, though they are about one up from a hostel they are always clean, depending on the clientel of when you are there depends on a good kip,(ie people who talk at the top of their voices at 1am ...no respect)
  4. I am planning to try making Tortilla breads, the recipe states that I need some shortening, please can any one advise as to what this is?
  5. So who paid for your now useless exams, what a waste of my and other hard working types taxes, the fact that you quote gce,s etc must mean that they are uk qualifications so you now think working in a chicken factory needs 9 what evers and a A whatsit, glad I waisted my youth.
  6. Blatant advertising is not /should not be allowed on this forum,it would open the flood gates.
  7. As we are new to france , this is a very grey area for us. Ahouse facing us has been empty for about 18 months and recently a new tennant has moved in. All was well for a few weeks ,he even lent my husband a jig saw to finish a bit of DIY.Mr Opas commented at the time that this man has a garage full of wood working tools. We dont know if he is a business or not but my question is are you allowed to set up a business from home in a residential area and if so/not who do we see about the noise levels,? he is constanly drilling or using an electric sander . Mr Opas is thinking of going to speak with him over this isue except the man is catalan...not very easy to understand, any realistic comments apreciated
  8. I take it this is your child that you have brought up. Have you always let your child dictate to you what he will or wont eat? I was brought up in a house hold that you ate what you were given or you went hungry! Our children have been brought up to eat what we eat(within reason ie spice, curry /hot) our youngest wont eat liver and the eldest pull her face at cabbage, but make a cabbage grattan and she is asking for seconds! sorry to sound hard but when you have two good eaters it is hard to undertand, we have had friends of our children for lunch and they say idont eat tomato, cheese, salad, peas, etc and the list goes on with different friends and half an hour after lunch they are eating biscuit, cake etc .Put your foot down ir you will be making different menu every mealtime!
  9. I could not agree with you more, there are several regular posters on this forum who seem to think that it is ok to hijack a posting,on more than one occasion I,ve made mention of this on the original posting only to have some smart alec(Mrs opas the censor say alec)comment that blah blah di blah, and when someone needs to do a search it becomes necessary to wade throught a load of irrelevant dribble.Hope whoever, can understand this posting!
  10. No its not ! it must be serious, Mr Opas has just polished his precious Fender! I am nearly choking on the fumes! There is either a serious session of Jamming planned or he is going Busking .(well the dosh wouldbe usefull)Only he doesnt have an amp at the moment, so air guitar with a metalic twang is lovely! Kids are back at school on Monday( yipeeee) so some one with a dual plug(probably not the correct term!) invite him round for a session so I can get some peace!
  11. going on from fat labelling , only the other day I commented tho mr opas that food isnt labelled here as in the UK with calories, salt, sugars etc. I am not a food label junkie but do look to avoid E numbers , look for low fat,low salt etc. just trying to find theses on crisp, drinks ,yogurt and biscuits and on some brands is just not there. I thought in the UK this was law, is it not so here, even a packet of butter does not have any calorific values
  12. this is not a hoax! just get your 10 year old daughter her 6 year old sister to invite a friend for lunch! up until this lunchtime we thought we were pretty good at understanding and speaking french, just by telling our daughters not to be rude and to speak french(we normally converse in english in the house) we have learnt new words and phrases, having to ask our kids to interpret what they had just said! the girls thought it was funny and their friend probably thinks we are dumb! and that said their mother will probably have us for child cruelty as the girl didnt eat anything we had made and ended up with cheese triangle and crackers! I know this is off the subject but the lunch was `normal` the friend invited at the last minute and the food was; stale bread made into crostini with spinachand yogurtdip which included lardons and garlic followed by homemade pizza with olives and anchoves.
  13. wont have any problems this week as everywhere we have been lately is advertising `mardi gras` ,just next to the frying pans and flour inside the door!
  14. Yes we arrived in France on the 26 AUG 2003(deffinatly a tuesday if the date is wrong) and did the final enrolment for our children on the wednesday , after being informed by various sources inc OUI CAN HELP! that school france wide started back the following mon?tues, only to find our girls ,one maternelle(sp) one CM2 were to commence school on the thurs 28 aug would be an understatement to say we were shocked and the girls disgusted as they had had a shorter holiday than their UK friends! we were not alone in going back to school on this date as the tv news was full of the rentree for the next few days! CHECK WITH THE SCHOOL THEY WILL BE ATTENDING as i feel it is important that as new kids any way it would only be worse if they started school later than the rest of their class.
  15. our 6 year old is in CP , she mentions a group of children in her class who `play` a lot , she says that they are in WCT has she heard wrong? or is there another dept to CP? curiosity has got the better of me.
  16. Tell them If they are ever down our neck of the woods I too can find a room for them ( and in the freezer.) Why not ask on of the hunting group as I am sure they would`n mind sharing their recipes. For the venison.. roast with red wine on a rack so the juices end up in the wine and then reduce the sauce, lovely tried it several times. soak the wild boarin a marinade of red wine ,garlic ,celery onion and carrot and then braise gently in the marinade.
  17. Have you given them your holiday address? If so have you been here since you bought the TV? If you havent , your bill will be in your postbox awaiting your next visit. Dont worry they will catch up with you but if you search through the site more thoroughly you will find more info as to where to purchase a licence, If you are late paying by the way for whatever reason you end up with a bigger bill as we did last year as we were returned to the uk about a week after purchase of the tv.
  18. we have just returned from the Champion supermarket, it is their turn to have a`foire du pork`! browsing at the butchers dept(which is all I do) and hubby declairing that looks a lovely piece of meat` and usualy my response is along the lines of `buy it, cookit and i`ll eat it` as I cannot possibly look at any piece of raw meat and enthuse over it! anyway offal is also on offer and we all enjoy liver and onions or even a liver butty so decided on some for todays lunch. I said I would make a steak and kidney pie for the weekend so whilst the man of the house did the business with the butcher I wandered off to look at the chocs and cakes! and as I was walking away spotted a tray of fatty stuff which turned out to be on offer as well `gorge du pork` or pigs throat! now I am not in anyway tempted to buy any but what on earth do you do with it.
  19. over the past couple of months we have accumilated a satelite system and a dvd player. to watch uk tv channels we have the scart lead from the decoder to the tv, we now have the dvd with a scart which if we want to view a dvd has to replace the decoder , sorry it confuses me as well, so today I saw a bank o scart leads ,where I thought if i put the plug end inthe tv and the other leads (from dvd ,decoder etc into the bank...like a multi plug ) I had sorted the probem, but i havent! the dvd plays as if not tuned in properly ,and the sat doesnt work at all, have I bought a faulty socket or missed a step somewhere,(why i want uk tv is beyond me,after watching changing rooms last night, just a jolly for the boys and girls!)
  20. yes my two children aged 6 and 10 both have a diary to say what they have to do for the next day ,and in the elder girls case a list of topics that will be covered over the next month, as a matter of interest I read your other post(estate agents, which area have you settled on.
