1. Some Prefectures like Angoulême have done away with the initial appointment to go through your dossier the accept postal applications. If the paperwork is in order they will let you know when you need to go in to collect your card and have your fingerprints taken. In Angoulême you don’t even need to arrange an appointment for that as they have Brittaniques only sessions.
2. This has been posted before but it lays out the timetable for British residents in France. https://mobile.interieur.gouv.fr/Actualites/Le-ministere-de-l-Interieur-se-prepare-au-Brexit/Sejour
3. In the Charente, the department concerned, they do it when you collect your card. Saying what happens in other departments only confuses things.
4. I’m fairly sure than Angoulême doesn’t use appointments at all for Brittaniques. You send your dossier by by post and after you are contacted there is a morning a week where you go and queue up to receive the card.
5. Look at the Charente web-site link, the Charente no longer runs an appointment system, it’s applications by post there now.
6. As you are in the Charente the requirements of other departments are worthless. The Charente lists are here; http://16.accueil-etrangers.gouv.fr/demande-de-titre-de-sejour/vous-etes-ressortissant-e-de-l-ue/vous-etes-ressortissant-e-de-l-ue/ The Charente has recently updated its CdS collection policy, I believe once you are notified that your card is ready you can pick it up without an appointment on Wednesdays. Bank statements are useful as they act like diaries, they show details of your everyday life, useful proof of where you were at the time. A friend of mine recently received a 10 year card from Angoulême, he applied after just over four and a half years of permanent residency.
7. As Britain is not in the Schengen area the 90/180 day limit has always existed. The difference is that after Brexit British visitors will not find it as easy to ignore the rules as before.
8. One of my sons is an architect and the practice he works for has the contract to update Euston Station ready for HS2. The archeology there is pretty impressive and must be costing someone a fortune, there’s 60,000 bodies to me moved for a start. https://hs2ineuston.commonplace.is/schemes/happening-now/archaeology-work-at-st-jamess-gardens/details
9. Surely the tax return that you returned last year was for 2017. Presumably you will be asked about changes in 2018 this year.
10.
Come on everybody. It was an accident. Accidents occur, most if not all of us have been involved in one. Sometimes our fault, sometimes the other party. If the DoE was at fault, then its a matter for him, his family and the police to determine what action to take. Happily, nobody seriously hurt. He’s a bloody-minded individual (and there’s no problem with that IMO), but, in the light of subsequent well publicised pictures, a bloody fool. There you go ......... bang goes my knighthood.
If somebody is unable to no longer drive safely to the point that he pulls out of a side turning into the path of a passing car the situation needs to be looked at by far more people than his immediate family. What a bizarre notion. If PP is unfit to drive safely he should be prevented to do so by the laws of the land. This time he, two women and a small child were extremely lucky, next time might be a lot more severe. It’s got nothing to do with his position and is not ageism but if he is unfit to be in the road he must be kept off it.
11.

An answer to 1 above. I believe that it was very fortunate that the Kia hit the Land Rover in a way that caused it to roll as that would have taken a lot of energy out of the collision. If the Freelander had stayed put the consequences could have been much worse. With all the talk of the sun I’d never considered that the Kia was travelling south.
I agree that it was very fortunate, but I am still surprised that a Kia could overturn a Land Rover, unless the LR has a very high CofG, or was already swerving to the left for some reason - perhaps to avoid a car coming from the right? Re. your second point, from the initial reports I somehow understood that D/E was driving from Sandringham, turning left (South) - into the sun, but I couldn't understand how the LR ended up in its final position unless he crossed the road and was hit by the Kia travelling North. However, if the Australian paper's diagram is correct, and looking at the junction on Google Earth, the D/E was crossing two lanes coming from his right, and possibly looking down them, into the sun, when the accident occurred.
All I meant was that I’d presumed that the car hecappears to have pulled out just in front of was coming out of the sun. If not the sun is a red herring.

13. One of the big advantages that younger generations have is that they haven’t had to live in a world of passive smoking. I have three children in their 20s and although none of them are precious about their diets all three are stick thin and healthy.
14. The easiest thing is to sell it to a friend, cancel the insurance using the Certificate de Cessation as proof that you have sold it. What happens after that is anyone’s guess.
15.

I thought that just about everybody here was paying to restore crumbling houses..
Not us. We abandoned our crumbler, previously used only in Summer, less than a week after moving into it in Winter, and put it up for sale. We had just moved everything from Spain to France, but realised it would be a life project and swallow our savings. Luckily Brits were still buying dreams in 2001. Next house was already well restored, and current one was built of brick and concrete in the 1960's.
I almost feel sorry for you. How unfortunate.
16. My parents’ neighbour had a beech hedge, it was lovely and didn’t appear to need too much maintenance. Over 50 years on its still just as good.
17. In the olden day’s I would have said box.
18. I would have thought that ALBF would have been happy, they are both quite close to Tours.
19. Where have you been for the past 18 months? I’ve contributed to both Mothe Chandeliers and Le Chatêau de Ebaupinay. During the summer I spent two days working at MC with other volunteers. It’s a great opportunity. www.dartagnans.fr
20. What do you need the hedge to do? Over the years I’ve cleared a huge amount of brambles and rough hedging and have replaced it where necessary in different ways. Along the longest side there was no need to do anything as once the brambles were cleared a low stone wall was exposed which is a great addition to the garden. Between my garden and my neighbour’s I constructed a post and rail fence using good quality wood and the final part has been allowed to grow into a wild hawthorn hedge as that provides the level of security that location needs. Bamboo is a menace and should be avoided all all costs, unless it’s dead and being used for privacy.
21.
You are correct woolly..... no one knows. Everybody waiting for the Brits to, once again, fire their salvo first.
Is that a critics of Britain or the UK?
22. ¿ easy on an iPad too. Just hold down the ? And select the ¿
23. A good quality hardwood will withstand sunlight. Look at the teak decks of most expensive yachts. Prettier perhaps when oiled but no other advantages.
24. You will have to remove all the varnish before any oil will work effectively. Linseed oil diluted in a turpentine substitute is cheap as chips and easy to use. A good exotic hardwood won’t suffer from not being oiled, the oil is mainly for cosmetic purposes.
