    PER

I have done the same where the pipes are hidden due to needing about 3 feet and not wanting to buy a complete roll. There have been no ill effects and I reckon that the material is identical in type apart from the colour.
  2. How did you manage to post pictures on here, that's what I want to know.
  3. I think that if the EU reverted back to what it was purported to be in the first place, i.e; a trade agreement, (Common market) then the vast majority of folk would be happy to stay in it. It's the other bits that have been added on over the years, like the ECHR etc, that gets peoples backs up. What any Politician says on the matter is irrelevant to me personally as I don't trust any of them. They merely say what they think we want to hear. Just like criminals do!
  4. Love this Japanese Doctor! Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life. Is this true? A: Heart only good for so many beats, and that it... Don't waste on exercise. Everything wear out eventually. Speeding up heart not make you live longer; it like saying you extend life of car by driving faster. Want to live longer? Take nap. Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake? A: Oh no. Wine made from fruit. Fruit very good. Brandy distilled wine, that mean they take water out of fruity bit so you get even more of goodness that way. Beer also made of grain. Grain good too. Bottom up! Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of one, sorry. My philosophy: No pain...good! Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you? A: YOU NOT LISTENING! Food fried in vegetable oil. How getting more vegetable be bad? Q: Is chocolate bad for me? A: You crazy?!? HEL-LO-O!! Cocoa bean! Another vegetable! It best feel-good food around! Q: Is swimming good for your figure? A: If swimming good for figure, explain whale to me. Q: Is getting in shape important for my lifestyle? A: Hey! 'Round' is shape! Well... I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. And remember: Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!" AND...... For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies. 1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. 2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. 3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. 4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. 5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits. CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.
  5. I feel sorry for him. He must be heartbroken. What is it with some French and their penchant for cutting down trees? I've seen it around here for no other good reason than to gain a couple of extra feet of crop planting. It's criminal.
  6. Here is a link to a Connexion story regarding smoke detector scams in France; http://www.connexionfrance.com/france-smoke-alarm-detector-march-8-criminals-rented-landlords-unit-standards-con-scam-16662-view-article.html
  7. Chancer, I had the same Eurotunnel quandary after throwing my old UK debit card away before realising about my frequent traveller account. Luckily, with a quick call to them, they changed the account to my new card number. I won't make that mistake again and good on you for sticking to your guns.
  8. Thanks to the experts for knowing what may have caused this. The e-mail program on my Laptop is 'Mozilla Thunderbird', just for your info'.
  9. Does that mean that the missus can't talk to me any more when she is sat next to me? Seems like another law that will be virtually impossible to police. Why can't the French have a campaign about not tailgating instead.
  10. I have received an e-mail from EDF to let me know that I can input my meter reading on line. I have just done that and was pleased to see that the amount of the next bill popped up. I'm happy with that. What was strange though was that the e-mail was dated 01/01/1970 I know that France is a bit backward in some things but an e-mail from 45 years ago! Bizarre!
  11. Suits me to be honest as my pensions are all paid into my UK bank. It would be nice to get back to 2005/6 levels too. It all depends which way Greece goes I suppose.
  12. On the occasions that we visit the McD in Mayenne town it is usually very busy. To be honest, I do enjoy a big mac and fries now and again. I also remember being in Malta when the very first one opened in Valletta. It was the talk of the Island and very busy indeed. They have a system and it works. They are also very conscious of keeping their customers happy. Simple really.
  13. This is a true account of a conversation that my mum once had when she was a Nurse on a maternity ward. Mum. " Congratulations Mrs Lott, you've had a lovely baby girl, what are you going to call her". Mrs Lott replied. " Mona". I've lost count of the amount of times I have heard my mum talk about that. Now, should I feel guilty about naming my daughter 'Holly'. She was born in December, so that's my excuse. It does however confuse some French folk because they hear it as ' Au Lit'. Which means, 'go to bed'.
  14. I currently get 4 of these per year. I take them into the local CA bank and they sign and stamp them for me. No charge either. Oddly enough, I actually signed two for some friends last week as one of my old professions is acceptable to Newcastle.
  15. Same here Frederick. I think my Bentley will get a lot more use with the way petrol has come down in price too. Happy days.
  16. I wish I had known about that last year Wooly. Our SAUR man read the meter and asked if I had a leak as the reading seemed higher than normal. No, I said, no leaks. Then I remembered that after leaving the place for a couple of weeks, one of my irrigation timer batteries had gone flat just after it had turned on. So for the best part of that two weeks my borders were being constantly watered. The weeds loved it!
  17. On the other side of the coin, they overcharged my disabled daughter more than a thousand euro's last August. Despite numerous phone calls and e-mails they have failed to respond. Now at the stage of recorded mail to them. It seems that to the French, a problem ignored is a problem solved.
  18. And it's now 1.3031. As my money is all paid into a UK account this is great news.

    Supermarkets

There is an Aldi in Knutsford Cheshire. For those that don't know the area, it's in the golden triangle of UK wealth. I have no qualms about shopping there instead of my previous Tesco or Sainsburys stores and once you see the multitude of high end vehicles in the car park it becomes obvious that it is very popular with not just the less well off. I also use both Aldi and Lidl in Mayenne far more than Hyper U. As for quality, our German friends swear by them. I think the main difference price wise is that they are private companies so are not liable to shareholders in the way that the UK stores are. They certainly save me some money.
  20. They are quite happy to strap suicide bombs to 10 year old's, so not participating in a minutes silence comes as no surprise. However, they're happy to move to almost every country that is not Islamic! And who do they blame when they don't get their own way? Not Islam... Not their leadership... Not themselves... THEY BLAME THE COUNTRIES THEY ARE HAPPY IN!! And they want to change the countries they're happy in, to be like the countries they came from where they were unhappy !!!! Bizarre.
  21. The first and last time we sailed from Caen, my better half said that she felt queasy after just a few minutes on board. How can you I said, we are still tied up alongside, besides which, it was like a millpond. Poor woman. Myself, I've been through the worst the sea can throw at you, including three Typhoons in the Indian Ocean, plus lots more around the world. I love a bit of roughers to be honest. Having said that, landing in a Helicopter on a Frigate in a South Atlantic storm had it's moments.
  22. "Gluestick" "Quillan" I don't know the French seem to manage it. http://moicani.over-blog.com/article-bonnefemme-de-neige-snow-woman- Ah, however, being pedantic, they look like Snow Women to me. Unless, naturally, they are intended to represent transvestites who have enjoyed large injections of hormones........ What's the difference between a Snowman and a Snow-woman. Snowballs!
  23. Me too. This year is my second year of receiving it after having lived here for 9 years!
  24. The civilised world will never be the same whilst murdering scum such as these are allowed to breath. I too spoke about the risk as far back as the early 90's. Not PC to do so of course! Condolences to the victims and families.
  25. We have had a few nights of minus 6c with cold sunny days here in the Mayenne. Today however it has warmed up and at the moment it's 11c and sunny.
