1. I had a friend who taught a course in business studies in LaRochelle. Students would ask "what is the right answer?" They  couldn't cope with the idea of  there being no one right answer.  I  think that is reflection of French education methods.
2. One problem is, I think, that the French have been brainwashed into beleiving that if it is not French it is not worth considering. I have heard ,in a resto, regarding wine " is it French?, Non, Non merci" Mexican and south American food has no link to English history but the English/brits will always try something different. 30-40years ago I recall a report saying that the majority of French holidayed in France because "what has anywhere else that is better?" Perhaps imagination is important.
3. Yes property is fairly expensive in Correze. As far as I have been able to ascertain there are few areas where restauration are easily available. Arnac Pompadour seems to be one of these and (consequently?) has a larger brit population than many areas. Our commune of about 1000 pers has, to my knowledge,  less than 20 brits. The number of new build properties and new cars is noticable. I reckon that the French keep a low profile regarding things that they want to keep to themselves. Either that or the brits are a bit thick! Brive is lovely. It has a superb Saturday market, a semi pedestrianised centre, lots of small shops, even a bowling alley and an ice rink.
4. Yes , Correze is lovely. We have been here for 5 years after 3 in Charente.  The scenery is delightful, the towns are interesting without being overrun by tourists and the people are friendly without being pushy. We, unfortunately, need, to return to the UK due to my husbands health but if that were not so  would recommend the area unreservedably (sp)
5. Reminds me of Barry Bucknel , when I was small, encouraging people to update their decor by fitting flush harboard panels over their classic paneled doors. On the subject of outdoor loos I once lived near Rochdale and an old fella I knew living in a back to back (a proper one with only one exterior wall) though that it most unhygenic having a WC inside the house. His was on a lower level than the living quqrters.
6. I am fortunate in that there is a Grand Frais nearby. They sell green coriander in good sized bunches. It will keep for a week or so wrapped in damp kitchen paper in the bottom of the fridge. I made an Indian meal for some friends at the weekend. Lamb dopiaza, brinjal bharta, onion bharjis(oven baked) Samosas, banana raita and that tomato and onion salad that I think is called cachumber. A friend complemented me on the meal and said it was like a taste of home! I think half the uk population has a spiritual home on the indian sub continent.
7. Snapdragons are usuallyknown as muflier I believe.
8.               Last year, when it was thought that I would have to have a certain op the anethetist charged over the conventionee. I had to sign a form stating that I would pay. Isn't this normal? It should be, then it wouldn't come as a shock.
9.
Of course you can buy travel insurance from UK despite living in France just search online - perhaps using the words "travel insurance". John
Most UK based companies will not issue travel insurance to those not resident because of repatriation issues.
