Long term rental

Recommended Posts

My wife and I ,along with our two babies and dog! are looking to rent a house/gite for a period of at least six months in the Lot et Garonne or Dordogne.
We are able to move in two months time and would be extremely grateful for any help, ideas etc.
Many Thanks

Hi
You might find this a bit of a tough one as your timing is not perfect - but here goes...

If you use Google enter key words such as 'homes to rent' and areas and if you want to target French possibilities then 'to let' is 'louer' and the word used for 'lettings' is 'locations'.

Don't forget that there is a French version of Google (http://www.google.fr/) as well as Yahoo (http://fr.yahoo.com).

Another place to cast an eye over is the property pages in the French regional newspaper for the area you are keen on.

Also look at many of the sites offering holiday homes because you may be lucky and find someone who is fed-up with changeovers and would be delighted to let it long term.

Prepare a short email in advance outlining what you require, how much you are willing to pay and if you will be bringing over any pets.

Then it's just a quick copy and paste.

It may also me worthwhile approaching estate agents in the area as they may have properties to let, or have a house that might be for sale, yet the owner may be willing to let.

As a bit of a wildcard you could place an advert on ebay within the property sections (cost about 35) and see if anyone can help out - you will get infront of thousands that way.

You also need to take into account your notice period for leaving the property.

If it is three months and you are well on your way to buying a property you could well lose your deposit if you leave early.

If you can time your departure with your purchase that would be perfect.

And finally this site has a list of long term lets and they are around the Perigord area...

Just click on the link in the middle of the page.

Hope this helps.
