''François "I hate the rich" Hollande, the man with THREE properties on the Riviera, and a personal fortune of £1.5 Million. A more classic example of a hypocritical "socialist" would be hard to find (Blair excepted).''

Can this be true? People should be told[:D]

I would imagine that the vast majority of french people know exactly who Hollande is and his background and wealth. I actually would have thought that he was even richer than that, as these days £1.5 million is not a 'fortune'.... that coming from me who isn't rich and probably not that well off.

No idea how 'socialist' this man is. Hopefully he is a bit of a socialist, Blair was not, in my opinion.

Hollande has never had a proper job in his life as far as I can see, is an Enarque from the same class as De Villepin though he ended up four places higher in the finals. So, where did his dosh come from? Surely it must have been mainly inherited?

Unlike Segoline Royale who always worked to pay her way through her studies.

In fact, he sounds like Ed Miliband who has made loadsa dosh out of the London property market.

Politicians who have never had to earn a living in the real workplace are not worth anything - eg Ed Bolox!

Isn't that the problem on both sides of the Channel at the moment?

Norman, you seem determined to relate back to the 'old country' again and again. I have not lived there for a long time and only know the careers of some politicians. My guess is that you are aiming a swipe at the PM of UK who is also rich apparently, but did at least, as far as I know, have a job outside the pubic sector/party HQ/think tank/ parliament for a little while.

For me, having a job, by the way, is working in the private sector and living in a back street bed-sit for a few years, trying to make ends meet. Which eliminates most politicians I can think of.

However Hollande chooses to "eat the rich", and whether he is one or not, there's been a steady influx of French (and few of them appear to be trying to avoid supertax) over the past few years. The majority with whom I've come into contact seem rather to be young and unable to find work in their native country.

It's such a growing trend. They're not alone...I'm seeing literally dozens and dozens of Spaniards and Italians as well, and no doubt come September, the next round of college enrolments will see a large influx of Greeks.

I'd strongly advise anyone visiting the UK in the near future to try engaging your waiter, waitress, barista, chambermaid, checkout assistant in conversation, because if my recent experience is anything to go by, they'll turn out to be a vet/physiotherapist/economist/nurse/architect/dentist.....

My comment was about both sides of the channel, but if you insist on naming UK politicians in a thread about a French President please don't accuse me of me the one to' relate back to the old country '

My dearest Normie, you do, not really want consistency, do you? Like any politician, I turn and turn and turn, like this morning, morning's minion if it gives me power and influence.
