Look in your Pages Jaune for Brocante. - these are 2nd hand furniture stores. They have a lot of rubbish but you may be lucky and find a bargain. Or Emmaus is a charity network which sells 2nd hand stuff. We aren't in 33 but once visited a place on the way to Bordeaux, near Langon, on the main road. Not the motorway. Have you looked on ebay.fr? You might be lucky and find things for sale near you.

There's a very good Emmaus at 33290 Parempuyre, if it's not too far for you.

This is a charity that helps the homeless.  They have depots throughout France. Furniture is donated to them for sale.  They have a large warehouse, stuffed full of second hand furniture, light fittings, toys, skis, electrical goods, rugs, clothes etc etc.  It has a high turnover, judging by the numbers of people waiting for it to open at 2pm each day.

Opening times for the Parempuyre depot, I think, are:

Weekdays: 14-18 hrs

Saturdays: 9-12 & 14-18 hrs

Sundays (only 1st in month): 14-18 hrs

Check first before travelling as they can close unexpectedly. Tel: 05 56 35 25 26.  Email: [email protected]

You have to sift through the rubbish (unbelievably, they put out broken crockery & dolls with one leg for sale) and you have to look for the bargains.  Never go there wanting something specific.  My best bargains have always been unexpected finds.  Outdoor furniture, needing TLC, at 1 euro each, kitchen cabinets at 5 euros each.  Some stuff can be very pricey, compared to UK prices.  I have virtually furnished my entire house there.

Well thanks for the suggestions.

We have used a selection of different furniture stores plus we have a lot of things which we brought from uk...treasures collected over the years.

The house is going to look great when it is ready!
We did find a s shjop about 10km away whiich appeared to be just an ordinary Brocante....however we found several pieces of reconditioned commodes, beds etc re-painted in styipple...pale greys and pastel beiges......some marble...just what we really like.

We keep looking  ...another shop is based just outside Bergerac and has designer furnishings...there was a sale the other week...and that was fun.
