Free to air on Spanish Satellite TV on the evening of 5th January "Los Reyes Magos" arrive in Spain. In the evening Spanish children traditionally leave food for the camels and receive presents on the morning of the 6th January. The Three Kings parade through the streets of  cities, towns and villages. The main TV channels will cover this event continuously from 18:30 in the evening to the termination of the fireworks at 22:00 or so. In Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla, Malaga and Valencia the processions are spectacular and can be followed by channel zapping; the TV Internacional Channel covers events throughout Spain. Similar celebrations occur throughout Latin America. Los Reyes Magos is probably more important to a spanish speaking child than christmas eve. Well worth looking at it next Monday Evening.

From Spanish friends here I can confirm that this is the big one for Spaniards...more celebrated than Christmas as you say.

It seems that Christmas is more important in Northern Europe, Epiphany in Spain, and the New Year in France.

If I were in better shape I'd consider visiting Catalunya, which is only a couple of hours from here.

At Garrucha, a small coastal town in south east Spain, Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar arrive by fishing boat just as it's getting dusk.

Their float is then towed through the streets by one of the Traficos Nissan Patrol's as the three kings throw sweets to the waiting children.

In Seville 40,000 kgs of "caramelos" are thrown to the waiting children, plus a couple of thousand DVDs; the children pop all the goodies in decorated bags to take home.
