Self drive van hire Leicester or Huntingdon?

Hi,

I am driving myself round the bend when I would far rather be driving a van to France!  I have tried various internet searches to find a self-drive van (one-way or two-way) to hire in either the Leicester or Huntingdon area.  My other half and I are buying a place near Limoges and want to move ourselves, but I seem to be getting the run-around from my search engine - all it comes up with are pages of listings that link to pages of listings that link to a load of rubbish!  If anyone has any recommendations please, please let me know.

I have used Europcar on a couple of occasions. Their websites are confusing with lots of different rates. Ring your local branch and ask them how to get the best rates. I did this and got it for 15% cheaper than I had found by asking for the "special" discount I was told to.

When we moved ourselves in 2006 we hired a van from the following company

They were one of the few companies who would let you cross the channel with their van! We found them excellent. I have looked and found there is a branch in Leicester

Look in Autotrader you can probably buy a van cheaper than cost of hire - especially if you need to do more than one trip.

Not a bad idea. Two weeks' hire of a Sprinter 8 years ago cost us £600 including a lot of time in France. Or you could buy a better van and sell it on after you have used it. We are considering this option for a move within the UK.
