Been using the Women's Institute recipe recently. 8oz Self raising flour, 2oz of butter, 1 beaten egg 3 to 4 tablespoons of milk and 1 oz of sugar. Add dry fruit or cherries as you please. Bake at 210°c. Usual rub in the butter and add the dry ingredients and fruit and add egg and milk. They have been delicious. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

mint Posted October 20, 2013 Share Posted October 20, 2013 Yikes, noooooooo, no cheating!The 2 ladies who are coming are expert bakers themselves.I thought I'd bake Patf's honey cake (which needs keeping for a week) but I couldn't find any suitable alternative to the orange juice. No oranges here as they are not yet in season.But, I baked some muffins with a banana and chopped walnuts and flavoured with rum.
