Chezstevens
Hi chaps(ess'),Has anybody had their BMW bike serviced in Poitiers. If so, were you happy with the service? It looks like my R1200RT needs an annual service Sep/Oct - I will be in France and Debs can pick me up from the garage instead of the airport (very kind I hear you all chant). What are the charges in France like compared to the UK - last annual service was about £240 inc hyd brake oil change and the tyres were about £250 fitted. I saw that their tyres were very competitive so ....... views appreciated. My tyres look as if they are good for approx 9000 miles - I tend to change them before they reach min legal depth (cos I am a wimp in the wet on slicks!!).Service will be the 2 year which inc both hydraulic circuits I believe. Bike will have done 9000 miles which is derisory but work is keeping me busy elsewhere - my R1150RT had done 23K in 3 years.regardsVern
Sunday Driver
I've just had the first 10k service on my R850R done by Tony Motorrad at Chatillon (Parthenay). He's an independent who specialises in BMW bikes and the total cost was 197 euros. Excellent service and no complaints - I'd recommend him any day.My BMW car is serviced by the concessionnaire at Cholet (Charrier) and their prices are about two thirds of that in the UK. Again, impeccable customer service.
Chezstevens
SD,VMT for info. Sadly to keep warranty alive I will have to use BMW dealer but have tucked away the independent for next year. The independent mechanics trained by BMW always seem to have a good reputation.Hope to see y'all for a ride May or July. Off to somewhere sandy tomorrow.regardsVern
Bob T
Don't worry Vern, you won't get too much sand on you stuck in that airconditioned cockpit!
Chezstevens
Bob,Don't make me laugh - what air conditioning!! The old girl is 40 and showing it - the guys try their best, and bloody marvellous effort it is in terrible working conditions, but I am 47 and I know where my aches, creaks and groans are. I will dust off my sandals before climbing onto the flightdeck.regardsVernPS Are you travelling north to join the 16/17/79/86 crowd for a run in May or July? Bob T
Not sure what our plans are yet Vern, we had loads but the kidney stone and the doctors have stuffed most of them.
Chezstevens
Well it is a balmy 39C here at the moment with blue sky, gently sifting sand thru toes. So I thought I would chill and read some e-mails .... opened one from Speedferries - ''Fight the Pirates''- to discover they have cancelled my 2 tickets for May and July 'cos they have had very expensive claims for bike damage so can no longer afford to carry bikes. I have asked them for a refund of my unexpired season tickets since I only have the bike to visit the family with - awaiting refund.Sounds like a staff training issue but c'est la vie. Looked at other options but will now stick with Ryanair to Poitiers for the year - other options being v.expensive. Happy biking in France.regardsVern
bmt
A bit late to the party, but none of the servicing is particularly difficult -- only the brake leakdown test and ecu fault codes (if any) need dealer equipment. Dealers in the UK will do the necessary for a reasonable sum, but I haven't tried here yet.Perhaps we should arrange a tech. day (see bmwst.com) and spread the knowledge? Chezstevens
Hi,Will try Poitiers BMW Moto in September for my annual service and change tyres. SWBO will pick me up from there rather than the airport! God bless her patience.
Mr Wiggy
Hi Chez.I must say that I was not very impressed with the Manager of the Poitiers BMW estabishment, a very arrogant and obnoxius little person. I had arranged to have a conformance certification check for my K75s. The mechanic gave the bike a thorough check and as expected every thing was ok.All that was then required was for them to forward the form to Strasbourg so that they could issue the attestation of conformance. This arrogant little berk gave an assurance that he would send the form that day, lying little man. That form remained in his desk for an awful long time, over 3 months until I sent a very strongly worded letter to Strasbourg, who then Phoned this individual and informed him of the possibility of them losing the dealership because of complaints from customers. Two weeks later I recieved the attestation of conformance from Strasbourg and a letter of appology. All in all almost 4months before I got the Attestation. Would I go to BMW Poitiers again? Only to give him a good SLAP. Mr W.
