No wonder it wasn't a great box office success - no sex (well not much), no violence, no bad language!

Just a well told tale of a kindly, thoughtful man with a passion and a need to do something for himself, by himself.

Great story, great acting

Haven't sat rivetted in front of the TV like that for a very long time.

I saw the film when it first came out (having worked with Hopkins on "Across the Lake" a docu' drama about Donald Campbell), and then brought the book it was based on. Munroe was nothing short of a backyard genius!

As for Hopkins, well he has an un-nerving way of "becoming" who he is portaying. I sat next to Campbell's sister at the media premiere of Across the Lake, and more than once she called Hopkins, "Don", and sais she was completely taken in by his portrayal, voice, mannerisms, and even appearance, though she did say Ewan Cooper looked NOTHING like Leo Villa. I told a friend of mine this years later, and he said it had aslo happened when he portrayed Nixon, to the point where R M Nixon's daughter twice called Hopkins "dad"!!!
