Rent a bike or motorbike to travel in Paris

I am an american, I like to travel. My intention in the beginning of next year, my family and I will travel in France. I want to ride a motorbike or bicycle instead of a car so I can easily visit and learn about people and culture in France. The first destination of course will be Paris, can you advise me on some good places to rent a motorbike or bicycle? and procedures for foreigners to rent a car like me have any difficulties?

Ok...in terms of Paris...forget car or motorbike.

I have ridden thousands of KM's around Paris on a bike. It is brilliant fun.

Personally, I would buy a bike or a secondhand bike for your holiday. Decathelon would be the best place to start. Google it. There is a big one right in the middle of Paris.

A good tip. Once you have done Paris, take a train to Orleans (with your bike) and do the 'Loire à Velo' which is a very famous cycling route taking in all the famous chateaux.

Paris has a highly developed bike hire network. When my daughter lived there she used the system to do most of her journeys without incurring any charge. Central Paris is very compact and walking is a viable option.
