Bing Creuse Bear Posted November 27, 2006 Share Posted November 27, 2006 I am an enthusiastic amateur and am interested in finding out a little more about the artistic landscape around the Creuse area of Limousin and over the border into Indre. I hear there are lots of painters around Crozant and Gargilesse, ceramicists around Les Tuilleries de Pouligny, a chainsaw sculptor and a knife maker too somewhere in the hills. How about printmakers? And photographers? Any other art or craft? Are there any specialist fairs you would recommend? And do any of you run workshops/ holiday courses etc? Many thanks. Bing, piece of advice.... stay well away from that chainsaw sculptor chap, his mental health has been proven to be somewhat suspect, he's a total nutter! I am a mere novice on an honest quest and now that I have located the chainsaw carver not so well hidden in Creuse... are there any printmakers out there? Chris Head Posted November 28, 2006 Share Posted November 28, 2006 Dang, I got found!I think the only real way to find out if folk want to buy your work is to go out there and see what happens, markets and fairs etc.I haven't explored a market here yet, quite simply because I don't want to be on the treadmill that I was in the UK, my instinct is that the French will pay for it if they like it, whatever it might be. We've been lucky, we've had TV and press coverage and I get a steady trickle of folk wanting carving, but it's not my first income at the moment. I'm interested in developing markets here but I'm just too busy with other projects at the mo. As you know Bing, it's just about being on the ground and being consistent, you have to go out and find it. It won't be easy as you know but at least there are plenty of things going on where you can get the exposure you'll need.Please don't hesitate to contact if I can help.
