Importing Firearms into France

Recommended Posts

  • 1 month later...

I have a Crossman Skanaker .177 CO2 target air pistol which I use for target shooting.  This used to be held on my firearm certificate, but since the law changes when pistols were banned in the UK this is no longer a firearm that has to be registered.

Air pistols do not seem to be covered in any of the French categories either as having to be registered or licenced.

Would I therefore be able to bring this pistol in and out of France/England without formality.  I suppose I would have to declare it at security as a dangerous item on the ferry!

Has anyone any experience of this?

I am not sure about pistols, but as far as airguns/airrifles go unless you belong to a club or you have a hunting permit (not that your allowed to shoot anything with a airgun anyway) it has to be below 10 Joules. So a standard 12ftlb uk airrifle would become a firearm on entering france unless you have the above.

I have not seen anything for pistols but a catalogue I have with airrifles and pistols they do seem to go on the 10 Joules for both items.
