Kent
Please excuse my ignorance but can anyone tell me what walnuts look like in their young stage? Do they have an almost citrus smell?www.limousingites.net
Thinlizzy
Yes! We discovered a huge tree in our orchard and the 'fruit' looked like avocado but sort of smelt limey. It was only when we caught the squirrels cracking them open later in the year that we realised it was a walnut tree. The bark is really smooth an it can be quite a few years before you get any walnuts. Now we have to rush to beat the squirrels before they get the walnuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts etc!! Cricri
Hi,They look like smaller versions of the big tree. I have a young walnut tree l'm growing at the moment. It's about 30cm and the leafs look just like the adult.Terry
Ianhaycox
We just had an Apple and Walnut pie for lunch using walnuts and apples from the garden. This note and a lazy Sunday prompted me to add an entry to my blog about walnuts with some pictures of the fruits in various stages. Click http://radio.weblogs.com/0136203/ to enjoy. Val_2
Our walnut tree is approx 25 years old and for the first time this year has lots of walnuts. We've had just a couple in previous years, but it is obviously one of those trees that needs to be getting on a bit before it fruits.
