barnabebear
Hi,just been looking at the seed potatoes in the shops, I don't recognise a lot of them, so some help needed please?I saw, and will buy, unless you know a better one, Charlotte, for salads and cold eating, but I would like the bulk of my crop to be a floury potato, for mashing and roasting, is there anything similar to a King Edward, although they boil away, they are my favourites. Is there any variety that anyone bought last year and can say, yes a good all rounder, thanks for any help.Barnabebear
Ron Avery
Look at the bumph that comes through the door each week from La poste and keep the Pointe Vert leaflet ( or pay them a visit) , they have a list of all the spuds, what they are best for and how long they keep. Alexis
Someone gave my husband a sack of bintje yesterday and I did garlic mash with them today and it was very nice. They are, apparently, for chips. Never seen such big spuds in France. Not in this house, they aren't!We have grown quite a few varieties but are still searching. Lot's of folk grow Charlotte. King Edward's can be ordered from one of the catalogues.
Duckalaronze
I'd recommend Desiree as a good allrounder - not good for salads but great for chips, baking & mash - it also seemed a bit more tolerant of the colarado beetles. I tried Ratte last year for new potatoes and they were awful. Anyone know where I can get some Jersey Royals?Gill
