change over days

This is our first year letting in France.  Due to the considerably cheaper flights midweek, has anyone looked at making their high season change over days midweek to help guests with the costs?  Does anyone in fact make them flexible and if so, does it pay or would the lost days inbetween make it not worth it?  Would be interested to know anyones thoughts on this.

Last year was our first year of letting and we were full for 26 weeks in all but no one flew - everyone without fail drove here in their own cars from UK.  We are around 45 minutes from Poitiers and the majority of our personal visitors fly Ryanair - however not one of the holidaymakers did.  We used to holiday in France with a company called Francophile (not sure if they are still around) and they specialised in Tuesday and Wednesday changeovers and always seemed to be able to fill their properties.

Most of our guests arrive by car/ferry, although some, usually couples, do fly and car hire.

Our changeover days are Saturdays and we have found an increasing number of guests crossing midweek and enjoying a leisurely trip down, breaking their journey enroute at the cheaper, good value hotels. This and midweek bookings only work when guests are not restricted in taking 2 week holiday blocks in the normal pattern.

  • 2 weeks later...

We had a Monday changeover last year, and have friends who have Mon and Tues changeovers-it doesn't seem to make any difference to the number of bookings. We change it according to  when the English schools' September term starts.
