Root canal job

Just come back from our local dentist....

Having bit on a chocolate caramel and had an ancient molar filling come out, I needed a replacement.  At our first appointment, he cleaned the tooth and gave me some antibiotics to clear up a minor infection, then at today's session, he did the full root canal job - 45 minutes in the chair!!

Both times, he gave me a quick 'numb up' first and the whole procedure was actually painless and quite relaxing - apart from when he swilled the tooth out with bleach to kill 'les microbes'. [+o(]

All his fees are conventionné as per the standard tariffs (70%) and my mutuelle covered the rest, so all done as a freebie.....

So, if anyone local is looking for a very good dentist, PM me.  We spoke French all the time, so I forget to ask him if he spoke English, but I know his partner does.  Still, not much scope for conversation when your gob is full of drills and suction thingies....[;-)]

Like many people, I have a phobia with dental work. All dentists I know around here, keep you coming back over and over again for about 6 sessions, to do a root canal work, it seems they do a little bit at a time. There is no way I can steal myself to go that many times, I'd rather have it done in one go, knock myself out with Lexomil beforehand, and bingo!

Last time I was in the chair for 45 minutes, last year, was when a new dentist, very pretty young woman, I had heard so much good about, could not extract a molar. She gave up in the end, leaving the 2 infected roots, and sent me home forgetting to put the adjoining cap back on (it had come off in the process). She had come highly recommended.[+o(]

I am truly envious.

Well, if anyone needs to see an excellent UK dentist who, whilst being an 'ordinary' dentist, specialises in root canal work that other dentists feel is too complex for them, pm me. He is based in Wokingham, Berks. Suffice to say that I almost fell asleep in the chair he is so gentle and ensure it is pain free, even the anaesthetic  injections themselves. He only undertakes private work but we find his fees extremely reasonable.

There is a good dentist in Descartes 37, if you can get an appointment, General interest to the forum not specific. He does speak very good English as he had a practice in Bond Street for seven years.

we have a fantastic dentist in St Laurent de Ceris dept 16 - my husband recently had a root canal done - 2 trips, 20mins in the chair each time, no pain, no fuss & all paid for by RAM & Mutuelle.  He really is wonderful with all the latest equipment - so please PM me for details

Lexomil (Bromazepam) is the tranquilliser of choice here in France (just another benzodiazepin), it is widely prescribed here where in the UK you might be given Valium (diazepam) - same family.

 One in North Reading to - specializes in difficult root canals....

It has to be said that some root canals are more difficult than others and sometimes the reason  for multiple visits is because the dentist wants to be quite sure that they really have got to the base of the infection - no one wants a infection after a tooth has been filled or capped.

The Lexomil I know comes in tablets. No doubt there is an IV version?

Quite and back teeth are hard to rootfill as they can have two, threre or four root canals on the same tooth as well as being harder to get at (as they are nearer the hinge)

My dentist must be a miracle worker. I had a root canal job yesterday (molar, lower left six, 3 roots) with no anaesthetic at all. No problem.

Correct Albert, glad you appreciate the skill involved. However no anaesthetic is required if the tooth is dead (ie dead nerve) which is one of the reasons for root filling a tooth.
