Medical Exemption

My wife has many medical conditions one being diabetes, I know that the drugs for this condition are free & reimbursed 100% does anyone know if this would apply to all the medicines as it does in the UK or just the medicine for the diabetes.

It's just for medicines and treatment associated with the diabetes and/or any other condition which has been designated an ALD (Affection de Longue Duree) by your GP in France.

You may find that other drugs will be given at 100% if they are connected with the diabetes.  My mother has dementia and her blood pressure drugs are also covered by the 100% as are all blood tests.

Her GP (in France) asked the specialist and he agreed. Once the 100% is agreed by CPAM (or whoever) it seems to be up to the doctors which drugs are covered.  Speak to the GP.

Don't forget that this exemption doesn't happen automatically and has to be applied for by your medecin traitant. It's also possible to have more than one ALD registered.

In my husband's situation, some of his "borderline" medications are sometimes included and sometimes not. As these are only a couple of euros a month we've never argued it and the top up insurance picks up the balance anyway.

Which illnesses does this apply to? In our family we have Blood Pressure and Epilepsy, both which require regular medicine. Can we get drugs for these illnesses for free (even if one Carte Vital is due to run out in January)?
