Satellite TV/TV Point

Recommended Posts

Our house already had a Satellite Dish & TV aerial when we moved in. I want to run another supply to the other side of the house. I have two coaxial cables coming in the loft from the Dish and aerial.

I thought I would buy a splitter for each and run a new supply to where they were required and connect them to a point (Legrand) which I had bought. Only problem is the point which takes Satellite, TV & FM on the front has only one input in the back.

Any advice please - do I connect the two together in the loft and run one supply?

With thanks

Go and visit http://www.satcure.com  I am not affiliated or connected to this site/person in anyway shape or form.
However, if this guy does not know the answer to your problems then I can assure you, as far as I am concerned, no one will.
And if he can not give a definitive answer on his site as to what you want to do, there are normally links from his site to those who may well be able to assist.

As a rider to that, you may find that his attitude is a bit OTT, but look beyond it and I think that you will find that
his site is a mine full of information irrespective of whatever set up you are endeavouring to achieve.

BUT whatever you do, DO NOT try to splice and connect the satellite dish and aerial cables together to the one input on the back.
I'm sorry to say this my friend, but it will NOT work. In fact you could do some serious damage.

The sat and TV are, and must be kept seperate (as David says). To combine them, you will need 2 things; a satelllite switch (actually a new LNB, too, so thats 3) and as many outlet plates (duplexed or triplexed) as you need. The switch will combine the (Horizontal & vertical) feeds from the satellite and the TV signal into each of the outlet plates.

Frankly, it is going to be alot easier to put a splitter in the TV feed and install a second dish and LNB and use twin input (sat & TV) outlet plates.

If you want to add FM radio signals this is equally easy/impossible!

All the bits are available in France, usually from larger DIY stores or specialist TV stores.

Let me know if you want an actual "design".
It is also possible in some cases - subject to the make of dish, to obtain a dual outlet (or even 3 or 4) LNB rather than buy and install an additional dish. Worth checking with the Satcure people.
Yes, that's what I think I said, although it isn't exactly what the OP asked.

BTW, why would anyone punt a UK-based company to supply to France, when the parts are available in France (and cheaper)?

You can achieve what you want to do quite simply but you will need to buy some bits and pieces:

You will need:

1 Coupler (coupleur) for combining a tv cable and a satellite cable plus 1 UHF splitter (repartiteur) plus 1 twin output LNB (tete universel twin) and some co-ax cable.

Replace the existing LNB on your dish with the Twin LNB and reconnect the original cable and run a second cable to a point in the loft above your second tv. Connect this second cable to the "SAT" port of your coupleur.

Cut the existing TV coax cable and insert the UHF splitter and take a new co-ax lead from the splitter to the coupleur using the "TV" port.

Take a new co-ax cable from the "SORTIE" port on the coupleur and connect it to the single input of your Legrand point.

This set up will safely provide you with a tv and satellite supply to the other side of your house.

I've seen the coupleur, splitter and Twin LNB  in places like Mr Bricolage or Castorama on my recent holiday and you have France based installers advertising in the magazine.

Thank you all very much for taking the trouble to reply.

I have looked at Satcure (yes very OTT) and other satallite bits suppliers websites. Made a trip to Mr Bricolage and Weldoms and bought some bits.

I might not have posed the question quite right in that I intend to use one outlet at a time and not the two.

Yesterday I  installed a splitter in the loft near the satalitte dish and run a lead to the other side of the house and I can get perfect reception on either - great.

I have only an English tv so far but will be getting a French one. When I do can I add a coupler between the splitter and the Dish and plug the aerial into this? The boxes all had diagrams on that was helpful and leads me to think it might work but I don't want to try and do irepairable damage. I am very reluctant (scared) to fit a twin LNB as the dish is difficult to reach.

Thanks again

Keith
