Question from a friend but I'd also be interested to know: When left untouched for some time Vista shuts the machine down.

Is there a way of stopping it doing it? They've tried altering the sleep timing but it still shuts down when left unattended.

Hi,

Are you talking about a laptop or desktop?, either way go into Control Panel, select 'Power Options' (mine is set to 'High Performance') decide for yourself the setting you want.  On the left of the window select 'Change when the computer sleeps' decide when you want your monitor to turn off, then select 'Put the computer to sleep'> Never  This should solve the problem.

Regards

Sorry to have been so long in getting back but my "friends", who were desperate for some help, have decided to knock some walls down in their Spanish ruin so haven't got around to trying out any of your tips.[:P]

I've dug my own laptop out (Vista Home Basic) and followed tel's instructions which work for me. Thanks for your help.
