Dumping Canal + And then....

Recommended Posts

Now that I have found I can get Motors TV for nothing, I'm going to dump Canal + as it's a lot of money when the only other important channels to me which I can't get any other way are Eurosport and Equidia.

I've written to C+ and know the form for that, but how does one go about returning their kit?  Do you think I could give it to the local agent?  Has anybody done this?

Now, I do have the dish which I want to keep where it is and, for preference, would like to get the free (French) Satelite channels which are available over here because I would like to keep the basic local channels for every day.  If I just go to the supermarket and buy a receiver, would I have to have the dish re-aligned or would it be pointing in the correct direction?  Because if there's any tweeking to do then I'll just go to the local Pulsat guy (who put the C+ in in the first place,) and let him get on with and sort everything.  However, if we can do it easily and on our own, I'll do that.

Don't really know about the first question but....

CanalSat comes via Astra1 satellite so if you want, you can leave the  dish alone and buy a decoder which is labelled clearly TNTSAT. With that you will receive all the French TNT channels and any FTA channels on Astra (including Eurosport in German)

Prices start about 100 euros for SD only like this for example

and about 170 for HD capable like this for example

There are plenty others to choose from

If you want to repoint your dish to AB3 satellite you can get the same thing with a Fransat decoder.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know.  I assume that C+ will let me know how to give their kit back when they get my letter - you can only cancel at the end of a contract year, so I've got a couple of months to sort this out once they acknowledge the resiliation.

I was looking at TNT and saw that it says there are plenty of channels in other languages.  The German Eurosport will suit my purposes perfectly as E/S broadcasts the race so I can still have that (most sports commentators talk b*l*x anyway).  I'll look through your links and hopefully one of them will give me the other channels.

Many thanks, Danny.

Coops, I did that some years ago.  Had Canal+ for a year when we first got the TV.

After cancelling the sub, I just took the box back to the shop it came from (they looked a bit bemused).  The dish is a separate issue, and you just keep that.  I have not had to have it realigned at all for the terrestrial French channels. And even with my recently-acquired TNT box, the dish orientations seems to be just fine.

to reiterate, just to make sure it is clear...

For TNT by satellite from ASTRA1 satellite ( the same satellite used by Canalsat), the decoder must be labelled TNTSAT.

For TNT by satellite from Atlantic Bird 3 satellite, the decoder must be labelled FRANSAT.

They will only receive the TNT channels (and any others FTA) via the appropiate satellite.

FTA channels on AB3 http://fr.kingofsat.net/freqs.php?&pos=5W&standard=All&ordre=freq&filtre=Clear (fewer than Astra1...)
