Merlin
Hi everybody - this is a post from another forum that really needs the word spreading - poor lady and poor animals! There are so many good folks on this forum and I have seen so many happy endings... I have more animals than I can handle at the moment myself, busting at the seams in fact so can't actually come to her rescue despite being in the same department - I might be able to foster if things get desperate and options run out but in the meantime I'm hoping people will reach out to this lady and help her. Thanks.jo stephens posted on 19/02/2010 at 14:01 e-mail jo stephensI urgently need to rehome my menagerie, my husband has left me (I wont bore you) I have an amazing bunch of animals and no way of maintaining themand know that inevitably I will have to return to England and wouldlike to find good homes rather than try in a rush and have to use apound, I have 2 donkeys, Ned a rare breed Badut Poitou, a young pretty andvery silly boy who will grow to be an extremly hansome and strong man.He is almost 2, castrated and up to date with all his immunisations andfully papered.Napoleon a large beautiful gentle donkey, extremly soppy andaffectionate and enjoys lots of cuddles and kisses. Bugsy
To get help for the Donkeys, get in touch with Equine rescue. They were incredibly good to us when we could no longer look after our two Donkeys, and found a good home for them, both together. I get photos and regular e-mails from their new owners. [email protected].
Russethouse
If memory serves it is Megan le Fey who is 'our' Great Dane fan and she mentioned a forum specifically for Great Danes. There could also be a breed specific rescue in France perhaps ?

Megan le Fey
Is there a smiley for silly smug grin? I think it is just possible that there may be a Dane in our household again in the near future[:D]. I really shouldn't be talking about it just yet - not until she is on my sofa - but I couldn't wait to tell all of you about it. Jo and I have agreed that Connie will come to live with us and as we are about 450km apart, we will nake a plan to meet halfway.Thank-you Russethouse for remembering me and Christine for your approval.[Www] and of course, Merlin for the original post. I will keep you all posted.[:D]

Merlin
I hope this works out for Connie as she's not an easy one to home being so large etc., and Danes do need experienced homes I feel. Now let's not forget poor little Michael...... he deserves a loving little corner somewhere too, n'est pas? It's his turn now!

Merlin
Hello everyone - this is the story about little Michael - picture on previous page, from an email sent by Jo's daughter who is out of her mind with worry for her Mum and all the animals:"Idont know if mum has had a chance to email you..as you can imagine sheis up to her eyeballs in jobs now its just her to do them! We know very little about Michael but what I do know I will tell you:Hes quite an old boy we think...so very pretty. Hes black and tanwith really short legs and a beautiful coat. He has the sweetest faceand he certainly loves a cuddle. In fact for a dog who I knew nothingabout when I first met him I have had no worries in cuddling up withhim in from of the fire. He potters about the garden and there havebeen no problems with him and the cats/chickens and he loves the otherdogs! Infact the way Michael became adopted by mum is such a lovelystory. He belonged to a farmer who lives about 2km away from mums, butunfortunately lived ouside in a kennel, wasnt looked after very well, fed scraps and generally wasnt loved the way we think animals shouldbe! When mum moved into the house in France with all the animals , hemust have caught scent on the wind or something because he kept turningup on the doorstep to see them all...mum repeatedly took him back tohis owner his owner was never really bothered nor even noticed he hadgone most of the time) and Michael (originaly called Bubbles...mumcalled him Buble when she was practising her French..hence the nameMichael was born!) used to run back the 2km every day just to sit onthe doorstep...it wasnt long before mum relented and began feeding him, then letting him in as it was wet and cold and then she agreed with theold owner that she may aswell just keep him!! (he doesnt want him back)I dont think he is up to date with bits and pieces, as hes an oldvagabond who just wanted to end his days with a good meal and a bit ofcompany...and a warm fire to curl up next to in the winter. He is sucha sweet little dog.....i really warmed to him when i first met him, andif i could Id have him...infact Id have them all if i didnt live in aflat with a baby due in a month!! As Ive said, I have some pics....so please let me know. Thanks again for your support xxTHE CATS WOULD STILL LOVE HOMES......THEY ARE ALL GORGEOUS AND IHAVE PICS OF THEM TOO...EVEN IF YOU JUST WANT SOME MOGGIES TO KEEP THERATS AT BAY!!"Can someone please give him a nice peaceful few twilight years do you think???· Reply... Megan le Fey
Just thought I would nudge this up to the top a bit. Poor Jo is just so worried about little Michael, he has had a hard life until he met Jo and it would be nice if he could find another loving home for his later years. lisa
hi ,I was wondering if you were still looking for a home for micheal?
Merlin
Hi LisaAt the moment Michael is still with his owner Jo. She is very depressed about her situation but has managed to home all the other dogs bar the ones she is going to manage to keep she hopes (three small terriers). I have offered Michael a home if he can be safely neutered (it's comlicated but I have a female who cannot be spayed for medical reasons), but failing that he will need a home but I have offered to pay his vet bills as he needs chipping and vaccinating also. I am giving Jo some space at the moment as Michael is safe with her for the time being and there isn't a deadline as yet for her returning to the UK - the loss of so many of her pets has been proving quite hard for her and so having her few doggies around her is helping some. The cats however a going to be a problem I fear and she is worried about those........... they sound lovely characters. I already have 5 here so I can't help on that score. I will let you know what happens with Michael - he is 14 and has cataracts by the way. If you have a home to offer, have you been following the thread previous to this about the lovely GSH who is on death row? He would make a lovely addition to any family and had I not had Michael in the pipeline (who will bring my tribe to 5 dogs!) I would have taken him like a shot. lisa
hi, Glad to hear that you might take micheal, I also would have him if he's neutered. I have 3 other old age pensioners at the moment and so can't really take in a young dog as they spend most of their time sleeping. For the cats I will ask my daughter as I already have 8 that I have rescued, are the cats neutered? Whereabouts are they in dept 12?
Christine Animal
Hello Lisa and welcome to the forum. I don't want to take over this thread, but as you have probably seen under the GSD one Rowan is desperately trying to save dogs from the Carcassonne shelter. Florence, another volunteer and who runs a site for them, tries to put what she considers to be the most urgent cases on the first page. There is this lovely ten year old boy who, from what I can understand, has been illtreated by youngsters and had to have an operation on his jaw. He looks so sweet, if only we could save him and find him a loving home before it's too late.
