We are off on holiday to spain with the dogs.  Does anyone know if it is advisable to treat the dogs for worms etc to go to Spain. Have heard that there may be some nasty poisonous caterpillars around at this time of year, so will try to avoid them.

The caterpiller things are in pine trees. Apparently the problem is that the little hairs on their bodies are highly allergenic (for pets AND people).  The problem is that the dogs are more likely to get a bigger dose.  I understand you should be able to see them, they walk in a line along the pine branches.

You should be okay if you stay out of pine forests.

If you normally use Frontline on the dogs may be good to change over to Advantix for your visit to Spain.  this from my vet who says there have been cases of leichmaniosis  - spelling - (from mosquitoes) in Southern France and Spain.  Advantiw protects against this as well as fleas and ticks.  It isn't compulsory but might be worth changing for that time.
