applying for bourse universitaire

Crous as Tourangelle stated are indeed the ones to deal with.

Our daughter deals with it here with the Crous in Rennes. You should apply for a bourse as soon as possible but if yours is like it is here, then do not expect the first payment until November, although I believe it should start in October but whatever happens you should get 2 payments by mid/end November. What can happen, is that they have so many students to deal with, that you will normally (well in the Rennes Academy area anyway) find the first payment will be delayed (one is paid monthly over a set period) but the 2nd one due should arrive on the date expected.

What you recieve (if anything ?) will depend on your global earnings the year before.

Same thing with logement,(if required) get it all done early, if you can.

Yes. The CROUS is the body to deal with and also your CAF who also give a payment. My daughter does very well and receives monthly payments which usually start in October and go through to June but you do have to apply and fill in lots of paperwork and supply the usual certs etc. We did the CAF one online. You also need to make sure the student has a current bank account so they can transfer payment direct. Most payments for grants are taken on the tax return for the previous year for the parents AND if your child student works during holidays these also have to be declared.
