pouk
Hi,I have been working in France for the last 16 motnhs andwill soon return back to the UK. The problem is I have bought a new carin France and I would like to insure it in UK keeping the french platesotherwise it will be a hassle when coming to sell it (the car is LHD soit will have to be taken back to france to be sold). Are there any companies that would be able to insure a car with foreign plates in the UK for 12 months?Yourhelp is much appreciated as it seems to be a real nightmare to changenumber plates every time you go to work in a different country. Many Thanks, pouk
AnOther
Hopefully SD, the acknowledged expert on these matters, might be along to quote you legal chapter and verse but in the interim I think you'll find the information you need here:http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/BuyingAndSellingAVehicle/ImportingAndExportingAVehicle/DG_4022583Nightmare or not if the car is to be kept in the UK then it must be properly registered here. You cannot "mix and match" to suit your own convenience.Regarding selling on at a later date, if it has not only been out of France for a prolonged period but also lacks the correct UK paperwork it could be very awkward to re export it.My advice would be to sell it in France where secondhand prices are generally quite a bit higher than UK and buy another car when you get here.
